Game is all messed up, worst is diplomatics ...

It don't seem to be working at all ...

I played the -39 scenario, and finally UK offered me to join the Allies, which I did. Now I could take control of UK and all the others Allies forces. I could also as Sweden declare war upon USSR and USA on behalf of the allies, which resulted in a war Axis vs Allies vs Commies vs USA. C'mon guys ... wtf?

Have you tested this game AT ALL before releasing it? I don't know what the heck the betas have been up to, but clearly they haven't done their job. And thats the bitter thruth looking at all the bugs and strange things happening ... Axis is way too owerpowered, they win EVERY game. USSR get its arse kicked 10 out of 10 times. I dont want to see Spain landing troops in Finland, nor in Sweden. I dont want to see Japanese Carriers in the baltic. I dont want to see Japanese soldiers on the coast of Netherlands. I dont want to see Latvia taking control of Moscow. The list can be made long ...

This game has HUGE potential, it will be best WW2 strategy game of all time IF some serious AI tweaking and a better and totally revised diplomatic system is made.

I've had high hopes on this game. I was just as anxious as everybody else to get it ... But still I cannot in my wildest dreams understand how Paradox could release HoI in its current state. To sum things up ... Hearts of Iron is a half done game ... No more, no less.

Can someone wake me up after some 10-15 patches?

I don't about HOI as I don't have a copy of the game yet (being in Italy, ya know).

BTW it sounds like what happened with EU2, which became fairly playable only after two or three patches.

I'm basically wondering the same: why Paradox releases games without (or with partial) testing? OK I guess they are probably stressed up by release dates imposed by marketing people, who believe that TTM (Time To Market) is much more important than the game itself (game industry rules you know). But this way the corporate image as game designer (in this case Paradox, but it applies to others as well) is damaged, is that worth it? Dunno

I like the game too. As I said, it has the potential to be the best WW2 strategy game of all time. But the game should not have been released in its current state.

And I cannot, dont matter how much I think about it, understand how some of the bugs could pass the betas, or even worse the programmers. Do you test your game at all?!

Now I just hope Patric, Johan & the rest of Paradox works at 110% to get us 1.02 before x-mas. They own their customer who paied for a half done game that.

I'm a software developer myself, and I would not be satisfied with myself releasing a game that still should be in beta.

But once again, I know Paradox is going to fix this game. They listen to their fans, they scan the boards and answers to the fans directly. It will take a couple of patches ... but 'till then I will just go on looking for bugs and other strange things in game. After all ... I just paid $40 to be a Paradox beta tester ...

Disagree

Hi there,

I do not agree with your comments..

The game is immensely complex... Everything cannot be tested.. Players are very inventive and will find ways to do unforeseen stuff...

The game system is good. The AI, well, is limited... In point of fact AI does not exist anywhere... there is no such thing as AI

Now it took many many years before a computer could beat a human chessmaster. And chess is a very very simple game, simple rules, one move at a time, only 32 pieces max, only 64 locations and everything is predictable...

Now diplomacy and economy can be improved, agreed.... AI is much tougher ....

I am still having a lot of fun with the game (as I did with EU2) .. I think Paradox are creative, inventive and have done a very good job (yes, OK they could do better - all of us could)...

I don't regret a single cent spend on these games and congratulations to the authors.. Please keep at it

Yes, the game is very complex. But still ... just choose a minor as far away from the war as possible ... now just let the game go on Very Fast and watch what happens. Axis will crush USSR every game, no matter how many tried you give it.

And there is no excuse to say its "too complex to test it". If you dont have the men to do the testing so you can release a worthy produc, dont bother make the product. Its as simple as that.

Another 1 month AT LEAST should have been given to game for testing and bug fixing before releasing it.

I basically disagree with this thread. Sure the game can use some improving, the concept is fantastic but so far my experience has been very good with it.

Worst flaws:
1) Nobody seems to understand how to use convoys (including myself).
2) Adjusting the production sliders is a nightmare (very difficult to lock one at a specific value).

Fantastic features:
1) You can play ANY country in both single and multiplayer mode!
2) Lots and lots of wonderful detail in many different aspects from land combat to politics to diplomacy to economics (my favorite).

So you'd rather wait a month before it's *perfect*, instead of getting it now while it's still fun? come on, you know that if it was pushed back a month you'd be whining about the release date...

look at this as an opportunity to explore the game and figure out how everything works, so when the AI is eventually souped up and it's kicking our butts, at least we'll know how to build troops and research stuff :)

Seriously, there's always complainers on every board after every vid game release. IceDust, don't be that person.

Determinism - The philosophical doctrine that every state of affairs, including every human event, act, and decision is the inevitable consequence of antecedent states of affairs.

If you subscribe to determinism, then you will want a game which *only* allows the historical declarations of war etc. HoI starts in 1936 and allows *non-historical* options such as Sweden taking part in the war and indeed declaring war on the US. From reading interviews with Johan, it's quite clear that this is a conscious design decision so I strongly doubt there will be any patches to prevent players from exploring non-historical options.

hehe, lets hope it will :)

There will always be people who complain. If it would have been pushed back another month I would probably ask why and be a little upset sure ...

But the problem I see here, is that such obvious bugs went through with the gold copy ... I for one would be a little ashamed if I was one of the developers.

This game will be great. I'm sure I'll put down hours daily on it in the future. When its been patched and tweaked. No doubts there. I'm just surprised this game is actually released in its current state.

Now lets just hope for a patch that fixes most bugs in a near future ...

Hmm, the thing wasnt that Sweden declared war upon USA. It was that Sweden on BEHALF of the allies declared war upon USA, and therfor dragged UK, Canada and some other nations to war with USA.

I dont want a complete historical game. That would be boring. We all know how the WW2 ended right?

What I do want is a working diplomatic system.

Gentlemen, this seems to be the hart of Icedust's argument;

No I dont.

I want a game. But I got a half done game for $40.

And that strikes me as a very logical complaint. That a game is being sold 'that should become to its potential after two or three patches' is very sad. We are all paying beta-testers then. And that's not what it says on the box. You are expecting a fully playable game.

Give the guy some credit for his opinion, it makes great sense to me.

Have you tested this game AT ALL before releasing it? I don't know what the heck the betas have been up to, but clearly they haven't done their job.

The ai is ruining my gaming experience, take this for example. I play Sovjet, the axis decides to declare war on me in early 40, late 40 i have crushed them and install a puppet regime. So much for thoose 5 hours I played that game. How fun is it to have been building up for the big war and then the ai is so stupid it won't use it troops in a better way. This game was played with 1.01 patch and with ai agressive and difficulty on max.

So please fix the ai!
