If you start a new game, play a few days, save the game, exit the program, reboot, start the game, can you then load the file you just saved?
Well it is my understanding that there have been problems reported with the beta patch and saved games but you said you were playing 1.03a.
You could check in with the bug forum, but if the save works from the test I gave you then looks like you are okay from a hardware tech aspect.
