My game consistently freezes during a specific date. I don't mean the usual stuttering or lagging. It completely stops working.
The freeze happens regardless of what I do ingame. It is not triggered by my actions or by any specific event.
The log shows nothing that may have caused the freeze. Everything in the log is just the normal "clutter", and the bottom-most entry is always different, so I'm 100% positive that whatever causes the freeze is not being recorded in the error log.
The music continues playing.
The mouse still moves, but clicks don't register.
I'm unable to tab out.
I'm able to ctrl-alt-F4, and if I then tab to something else (like, say, the error.log or a browser), the mouse pointer retains the form and colour of the stellaris pointer and doesn't click anything. Only the task manager can be interacted with, until I kill Stellaris via it.
The task manager shows that Stellaris still uses around 25% CPU and 1 GB of RAM after it has frozen.
The game knows that it has misbehaved, because when I restart, it asks me to send a report to Paradox. Or maybe it just knows that I used the task manager to kill it?
What would be the most efficient way of narrowing down the reason? I have deactivated all mods, and the freeze still occurs.
Is there a set of factors that typically cause a freeze but not a direct CTD, that I could try to investigate?
