So I bought this turkey from Gamersgate this morning, and wasted my whole day screwing with it.
Random CTDs are just something that you expect from Paradox, and really aren't the end of the world if you set your autosaves to monthly - but this is something different.
The game freezes on the same day every time. March 16th, 484.
The weird thing is, after the game freezes the cursor still moves fine. No interaction with the game of any type, though. I saw a few other people with similar problems...anyone have a fix?
Mandatory disclaimers:
It seems like a pretty standard case of some sloppy code somewhere, maybe an event of some sort, but I would be happy to be proven wrong.
If I can't get an answer by tomorrow I'll probably try to return it, and definately rethink getting HOI 3.

Mandatory disclaimers:
- Rome Gold with 2.1.
- All drivers are current.
- Decent PC with no problems and plenty of horse power. Runs Fallout 3 on highest settings just fine, so this should be no problem.
- DXDiag shows no problems, except that the latest SB X-Fi drivers aren't WHQL signed.
- Direct X 9 freshly loaded from the file provided by Paradox.
- Set multisampling=0.
- Using XP compatibility mode.
- Blah, blah, blah.
