good thing- no one will harm you. (also you can befriend FE and he'll eventually open borders)
also if you'll go psionic route you can research psi jump drive (or just a normal jump drive if you don't want). and it'll allow you to jump away

Habitats are your friends however underwhelming they feel.

That said, Materialist empires sometimes ask to donate a scientist. If you agree, one of rewards is open borders I think.

Did you check that you really don't have any other habitable planets near you? Because right now it looks like you haven't actually surveyed the systems to the left, and if you don't survey a system you don't have sensor info on, the UI doesn't show if there are any habitable planets there.

I did. There was none. Not even different climate one. So I delayed surveying those systems cuz I wanted to take more important ones first.

What an opportunity to go tall :)

If only my two planets were bigger sized. 17 and 13 doesn't feel all that great. I'll give it a try nevertheless.

Being blocked by a fallen empire is a bliss. You can develop your economy with literally zero fleet and no risk of being conquered. It's a huge benefit. Get ecumenopolis/megastructures. If you also manage to get Fen Hannabis inside your borders you basically won the game. When your economy is strong enough just conquer the FE, getting huge boost to everything and becoming an unstoppable force.

Never tried this before. But wouldn't such a game be very slow in researching techs and gathering resources? Can such a small empire produce/buy the required resources (basic and strategic ones) at all? Megastructures are late and expensive.

Research/unity should be easy - you will be below your cap for a very long time. The problem you are going to have is minerals. Probably be a good idea to focus on better hyperdrives until you get jump drives. (and experimental jump drives before that)

When you don't need to spend alloys on anything rather than megastructures they are much earlier to be build. And no research penalties due to small size give benefit as well. Also you can micromanage your pops with no problems as there are going to be only two planets, optimizing your economy. In my experience it's quite viable, though I had only one tall game in 2.2.

Update on how the game's going. I'm currently pumping out 1.5k reserach a month but my economy's not looking good. The two planets I have are very short of M deposits and on top of that the market's going crazy again which makes trade economy hardly viable. I can make T4,5 equipped battleships but don't have the alloy to do so. Where can I go from here? You can check my thumbnail images for more info if you'd like. Thank you :)

I'm trying to build up my economy big enough so that it could support a proper fleet to go make tributaries with or at least earn me enough total alloy to build megastructures but it's not easy. One thing I found interesting is that my economy is entirely dependent on the market conditions. When alloy price goes above 10 EC and mineral price below 2 EC I make a ton of credits. When the opposite happens and alloy sells at 6 EC while a single mineral costs me 10 EC, I feel like I'm about to lose the game. One thing's for sure though; clerk build is just impossible.

I would suggest setting price limits on the monthly trades - if alloys sells for less than 2 minerals, you really do not want to sell it. Better to shut down your alloy production.
Also, as you probably have figured out, with such a high focus on market trading, you really need the diplomacy tree.

Well I had no blackhole in my territory so while slowly transitioning my empire's focus from research to alloy I got hit by the end game crisis of lag. Untill then I managed to build 10 end game level battleships which was about 30k in fleet power.
