I read the stickies but I still have the following problem: The last 6 times I have played the game it will go anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour before the screen will go momentarily black and then back to the desk top...with the Std Microsoft message "An error has occured in the Application Hearts of Iron. Do you want to report this error?"

I have been playing for at least 8 months and it just started happening. the only thing that has changed recently is that I upgraded my memory to 1 GB to 1.5 Gb.

It is possible your new memory is not compatable with your old one and cause random crashes. When upgrading memory it is always recomended you get the same manufacturere as the one you have on your motherboard and the same model and latency as well.

I suppose that is a good first place to look. How can I tell if that is really the issue? HOI is the only app that has been crashing. Do you have a backup idea I can check if the memory checks out?

My IT guy did my upgrade...not a guarantee of accuracy, but it was not an IT amateur like myself buying memory on ebay.

I have same issue

I have the same problem. But I have done nothing to my system.
The only thing I can think is that a bunch of new XP2 patches just came down the line.
I just bought HoI2-DD and am having this issue.
HoI2, not DD, runs fine for hours on my system.
It has more to do with cycles I think than actual run time.
It is like everytime something ticks it crashes versus how much real time it is up.
I know one it crashed when it was poping up a trade cancel.

Any help would be appreciated, I am crashing so much this new game has become unplayable.

as the above poster, my game to crashes after somtime of playing - making it almost unplayable.

the only way i can play is with autosave - and reload after the crashes.
its starting to get annoying.

any help on anyways to avoid CTD's?

I get occasional crashes when I click on my allies sea units when they are just moving or in battle. Since then, I have that phobia and NEVER take control of their naval units.

Game Crashes

I think the consistency of game crashes among both vanilla DD, C.O.R.E or other mods suggests that the game has major memory issues!
It isn't your computer folks. When so many people are reporting the same type of problems, it is obviously an HOI-2 internal issue.

Not only does the game crash, I occasionally get the blue screen of death while playing the game. It is the only software that I have that causes it!

Paradox did something right! It learned to crash XP-pro successfully and repeatedly!

My game never crashes and I let it run sometimes all day. You can go to MajorGeeks.com and download their FreeRam XP Pro memory manager which is fantastic. If their are memory problems that would solve it. I run that all the time on my machine.

i have almost the same problem, only that my game mainly crashes when i´m trying to save the game (or autosave). i already found out, that being not online makes the problem occur less often (whysoever). also winamp seems to crash the game more often with even resulting in a nice bluescree of death sometimes. i just formated my whole comp today but the problem is still there...

It's Norton 360!

I deleted Norton 360 off my rig and guess what???? No game crashes and no windows crashes. It looks like Norton 360 and other anti-virus software are affected game play and windows stability.

I have 2 gigs of ram. Before starting the game, I disable other software.

Norton is a hog! I useto use Norton Anti-Virus, it is the worse anti-virus I have ever seen!

1) Takes an ungodly amount of resources
2) It never fully un-installs and you have to go do google searches to find a special tool just to remove it.
3) Interferes with games all the time especially FIFA

I use AVG Internet Security, fantastic product and doesnt have any of those problems.

i changed from bitdefender to kaspersky today, haven´t played hoi2 since then tho... i´ll post an update later or tomorrow on how things changed (or if at all), maybe bit defender causes similar probs like norton 360

I just installed Armageddon this morning. After about 5hrs of playing I got the black screen and computer shutdown. Up until the install today I could run DD for days with no problems. I get the same thing from two other new games - LOTRO, and UFO Extraterrestrials. Back when I played LOTRO I found that if I turned my resolution way down the game did not shut the computer down. DD did not do this until I installed Armageddon today. So I believe it is something graphics wise in the newest games. Hopefully this will help techs narrow down the problem. ; )

Alienware laptop loaded. Oh and Nvidia has not provided an updated driver for 7900 gtx laptop cards on WinXP for over a year now..... "bullseye??"

Help! I had this problem just last night. I was chilling playing with Mexico, and as one of my tech was about to finish researching, about 99% the game crashed, so I reeboted the game, and again, it just crashed when that tech was being completed. I'm quite new, I just bought the game so I'm gonna try and download the patches, but maybe it is all part of a bigger problem if so many people are having the same problem? .. I'll give an update when I'm finished patching it.

Ive got Nortans internet~ 05, do you think that might be my problem? ive tried everything else.

Yea I useto use that version and stoped cause it interefered with all my programs and games. I could not tell you how many times it has killed a FIFA 2005 game or has killed my PC because it all of a sudden decided to bench my processor to 100%. Use AVG it is allot nicer, better anti-virus and its free.
