Hi,

Bought new computer. Played EU4 a little. Bought Emperor. Cannot play EU4. Have Windows 10. Get a locked screen. Can open Task Manager through ctrl/alt/del but cannot click to stop EUIV. Locks up entire computer. Think I went through all the steps listed so posting for help.

Checked Integrity of files via Steam.

Uninstalled, re-installed.

Uninstalled, re-installed to different folder.

Changed border to windowless. Or window to borderless. Whichever.

Added EUIV to Defender permission list (I think)

Checked 'run as administrator'

Checked the run as Windows 8 box.

Did not check run in 486x whatever mode because that option is greyed out.

Now when I try and launch game, I do not have permission to read/write.

Please help, and keep in mind that I am old, and not good with computers. Please be specific and don't assume that I know anything. Yes, the computer is plugged into the wall and turned on and there is power, but that's about as far as my computer knowledge goes. If possible, type slowly as I do not read very fast. It is most likely the problem lies somewhere between the keyboard and chair, but I'm not smart enough to figure it out.

Thank you for your support.

What antivirus app do you use?

Add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
