What do you think will be the most difficult, critical facet of Victoria to model?

IMO it will be having a recognizable, not too brief, World War I after 70+ years of player and AI interference.

Any other thoughts?

Probably the AI system. I think the more complex a game is, the harder it is for a good AI to be created. E.g. Eu2 vs. HoI....Eu2 has a much better AI, but it is far less complicated...Vic won't be fun if you can conquer the world as Texas

- i think you just destroyed Johan's dream :p

anyway.. i think that WWI will be incredibly difficult to emulate, like you say.. after such a long stretch of game beforehand (this does not let this detract from my hopes they consider moving the starting year a little earlier)

also, there are quite a few other things that would be difficult..

of course, being in the states, the other thing i think of is the American Civil War, which would be interesting as well.

Regardless, WWI would be the most difficult, because of the nature of the cause and conflicts.. and all those wild alliances.

I hope to see an AAR by somebody who took to releasing, say, Georgia.. and then attempting to annex the rest of the USA.

I wouldn't be surprised if WW1 rarely, if ever happens, game wise. After all, how often did we see anything near the Napoleonic Wars in Eu2? :D

The whole thing will be difficult to model, especially World War One. But, if anyone's up to the task, Paradox is.

We could potentialy have World Wars breaking out every couple of years or so, so in a GC WWI might not be that important.\

I think the greatest challenge will be placating both the players that want a great amount of historic accuracy and also those who want a different game every time, two types that could be mutually exclusive.

This would be my guess too, as this is always a massive debate before every Paradox game that comes out. There are the people that want refinements of all the game systems but nothing really new, and the people who want to see sweeping changes for a whole new experience. It will be interesting to see which side gets what it wants.

This will be one of the big disappointments to a lot of people. The good thing though is there will probably be a WWI scenario - if not part of the release then certainly the exceptional number of scenario creators on the forum will supply one.:) My guess is WWI will be a release scenario.

The AI is the most difficult to program.

But that is becouse noone realy can make AI's.

Other things in this kind of games is the socioeconomic model, it's rathertricky to simulate.

3 things:
- AI of course

- A build up of world tension to erupt into the Great War - maybe through some accumulated "bad boy factor" and/or the relations indicator from EU2, maybe coupled with a "tensionmeter" like the War Entry from HoI.
A mixx of this might be a feasible way of recreating WWI every now and then?

- A good tech tree with new technologies, interacting with need for the ressources from the colonies (oil for instance to Great Brittains navy in the later years).
I hope Paradox will stick with the rather complex tech tree and ressources (not just "goods" ), so that there will be some real decision making concerning the feasability of investing in new techs if you for instance have poor access to requiered resources!

WWI? Bah. What I want is an accurate representation of the American Civil War, arguably the most important event of the last two centuries in its sweeping effects.

Far from being critical to my appreciating the game I still want to make the case for a major graphics and sound effect overhaul. It's time to give the next game more up to date look.
