Game crashing

Hi, I am experience a problem with Stellaris which I have never had before... the game now crashes any time I got into a naval battle. Appart from that, the game goes smooth even with huge galaxies and I do not experience any problem... also, I have checked and I am only using 40% of my RAM memory and 60% of my CPU, so it does not seem that my computer can bear the game... also, I used to play stellaris during summer and none of this happened...

In case it is of help, I am having the same problem with Europa Universalis IV (although in this case, the crashes seem more random and I have not identified a particular trigger for the crash. In fact, Europa Universalis IV is somehow playable... but stellaris is not at this point). As in Stellaris, I have been playing Europa Univesalis IV since release and this never happened until now...

Go to your "...\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\logs" folder, and there should be an "exceptions.log" txt file. Upload that here.

What version and checksum is your game?

Thank you very much for your message. There is not an "exceptions.log" txt file, but there are many other txt files, "ai", "debug", "error", "executedcommands", "game", "memory", "profiler", "random", "random02", "receivedcommands", "sentcommands", "setup", "system" and "time". I have uploaded all of them.

I am using the last vertion of the game with ringstomes, leviathans, horizon signals and creatures of the void.

Usually, when the game crashes, it creates a dump file as well as adding something to the exceptions log.

Do you get a file created in the "..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\dump" folder?

I need to know both your version and checksum. When you load the game it should state both on the main menu screen. This will tell me if you have the right files.

The version and checksum is 1.4.1 (1759). There is no dump file. Actually, most of the times the game freeces and the only way to get out is by unplugging the computer, maybe that is the reason why there is no file? some times the screen turns blue and the computer restarts though.

Ah, so the game freezes rather than actually crashes to desktop?

Does the freezing happen in the same save? or does it happen on any new games you start as well?

Yes, it freezes most of the times, I did not explained myself properly. It happens with all new games.

My Stellaris also freezes (none of the other new games do though). I can't alt-tab out or do anything except forcefully shut down the machine.
The errors log shows some bugs in paradox files (which I've later fixed to see if it made a difference), the exception log is empty.
No dump file is generated.

I've got the latest video and sound drivers for my cards.

This has been happening since release though.

I haven't been able to pinpoint a pattern. It seems to happen randomly while playing.

Okay, try reinstalling the directx and visual c++ by running the following files
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stellaris\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\ and run dxsetup.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stellaris\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\ and run vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe

That usually means a hardware or driver problem. Next time you get a clue screen like that, take a clear photo of it so we can see all the text.


DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/system.log files, thanks.



Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
