You havent said whether or not you have the release patch from Gamersgate installed. Have you?

I tried to intall a patch intiallly but it said it required the CD which I don't have, since I got the game through gamersgate. Is there a separate patch available for the gamersgate version? The link i saw in these forums point to a download that lists the patch as specifially NOT for the gamersgate version.

I also read in these forums that the patch is for Vista users only and not for XP (which is what I have).

However, i've now managed to get the game to run. I first tried to uninstall everything (the gamersgate downloader as well as the game) and then redownload and reinstall everything but i was still getting the error.

Then it occured to me to lower the resolution from 1920x1200. I had to hunt down the setup.exe file cause there is no shortcut for it in the Start Menu (there should be but no biggy). After i lowered the resolution to 1600x1200, the game seems to run fine.

So the question is, does the game NOT support widescreen 1920x1200? That is the native resolution for my LCD monitor. If not then I'll live with the game at 1600x1200 although everything looks kind of wide :). If its supposed to run at the higher widescreen resolution, then this is definitely a bug that should get fixed.

Anyway, I got the game up so I'm ok for now. Hopefully it will be worth it :)

Hi there:

Download the day 1 patch for the retail version here

To download the day 1 patch for the GamersGate version, please go to the "My Games" section in your account.

Kind regards

Thanks for the reply Susana

Unfortunately, after installing the gamersgate patch I think I'm worse off. Apparently the patched version of the game does not give you the option to select the screen resolution in the setup popup and it just takes my display's running resolution of 1920x1200, which caused the error to come back (remember, i made it go away by selecting 1600x1200 in the setup of the previous unpatched version).

So I set my display's resolution to 1600x1200 via Window's Display Properties. That got the game to launch. But then it locked up while i was in the config screen setting up my joystick button assignments.

I don't know if its because the patch was specific to Vista and I should NOT have run it cause i'm XP or if its something else.

Anyway, I'm going to unistall again, then reinstall the unpatched version of the game and see if that gets it more stable at 1600x1200.

Also, I'm still not clear if the game even supports 1920x1200. I assume it does as it was an option in the previous version's setup and the patched version game is obviously trying to launch under that resolution since that's what my display is set to.

I'll post back after I roll back to the unpatched version and let you know if that's is more stable on my system.

Ok, it really shouldn't be this difficult so if you want to hold off until I've talked to the devs I'll see if I can get you some answers.

Thanks, for the quick reply. It's very much appreciated.

After rolling back to the prepatched version (1.0.1.9) and setting the game to run at 1600x1200, everything seems ok. Setup my joystick and ran through the first mission without problems.

Very pretty game by the way.

I'll keep playing at 1600x1200 and keep an eye out for the fix to run at 1920x1200.

Thanks again.

About the fonts

Hi again,

Ok so we've looked into this and it seem that if you've got enormously high resolution, all textures become really heavy and they take all video RAM for themselves without leaving even 100kb for the fonts. I think at this stage the best option is just to play in a lower resolution.

Kind regards
Susana Meza

Well after the support message I got the same problems and I weren't to sure what he ment by it, but after reading up on this topic and changing my windows resolution settings to a lower instance than 1600x1200, it worked.

so thanks, cubano :)

all textures become really heavy and they take all video RAM for themselves without leaving even 100kb for the fonts
Sorry to say that, but that's just a plain cheap and wrong excuse. Graphics memory is allocated dyamically - otherwise game would crash if new textures are loaded eg. a new mission starts etc.
Also I dare to disbelieve that Quazar has different LODs of textures up to 2560x1600... I rather would say that the code has no referrers for textures or fonts on resolutions above 16x12, which makes it quite an easy fix indeed - all that's neccessary is to have max resolution textures loaded for resolution above 16x12 - if the geometrical code supports these resolutions at all, that is. If not, then all they would need to do is let the game code fall back to the maximum they can provide - like old DOS and DX3 games would.
What somehow strikes me however is the fact that AFAIK the game was released in GUS more than a year ago so if that problem is new to Akelia/Quazar as they claim it can only lead to the asumption that nobody in whole Russia including the developers has a monitor larger than 22'' - poor sods.
And cubano: try 1680x1050 to maintain your aspect ratio....
