He told you who the publisher is (Strategy First)
The question you really need to ask is if his version came with the conquest pack or as part of some other package of games. THat is the version with the messed up saves and there is a sticky thread that deals with that.

What he said, that is the best choice, since we do not support your version, I don't know how that patch will interact with 1.08 since the off disk version was not 1.08.

If you don't like the results just add the save folder manually.

If you have no save folder then I assume you have the veriosn released with the conquerers pack. THat was a Strategy First release and you should get the special patch from thier website.
Among other things it corrects the save game folder problem.
