I started a new game a few days ago, and while it ran smoothly at first, it has been crashing ever since last night. Specifically, whenever my current character dies, I hear the first few notes of the death announcement, but before the sound finishes or the summary screen for that character appears, the game crashes to the desktop. This behavior is repeatable on reloading (although my character always dies at different times), and also can be reproduced by using the console 'kill' command.
To correct the issue, I have tried verifying my steam cache as well as deleting my Crusader Kings II folder in My Documents. Neither seems to have fixed the issue; however, I have found that the 'kill' command does NOT cause a crash in a new game.
Note that I do not have any installed mods, nor have I used any console commands before trying to reproduce this issue.
Edit: I am using patch 2.3.2.
(P.S. I am not playing in Ironman mode, so I am open to any workarounds via the console, etc.)
