Hi, I've been having some problems getting Crusader Kings 2 to launch. The platform I'm using is Windows 8, the game worked fine on this laptop before then suddenly one day it stopped. The game will get to the launcher (where DLC and mods are selected) and then when I press "Play" the screen will flash black and then nothing.
I have been trying to solve this problem for a while, looking on the steam forums mostly, and have tried all the common fixes I found there but none of them worked.
I tried
- running the game as an administrator
- installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555
and
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328
as well as fixing same
- installed all .NET updates and all other updates avaliable on Windows update.
- tried running the game from the .ex- e file instead of through steam
- installed all vcredist_x86.exe files
- updated directx
- set the compatability to 640 X 480, and tried running it that way
- uninstalling and redownloading the game
None of these have worked and when I have searched forums I haven't been able to find any other tips. Please help.
