Game as France, how do I get the war to be more than just me vs germany?

It's 1942 and ever since poland was invaded, nobody else has joined in the war. I held off the germans but can't push, russia is at peace. USA is at peace. UK is useless. I'm just losing tons of manpower holding back the german's each year, I know I will run out of manpower before them. How can I get the USSR or USA into the war to take some pressure off of me

Soviets might DOW at some point of their own accord, but there isn't anything much scripted to happen really.


As France a while back I was able to defeat Germany entirely almost by myself by concentrating on making my army war ready by late 1939, and thrusting deep into Germany while they're still engaged in Poland. It's almost too easy in a sense if you do it that way.

I sympathize with you. Playing as France is so frustrating because UK will never come to your aid outside of deploying the RAF and the RN. In WiF, the ANZACS would almost always conduct amphibious invasions in Denmark, which was amusing but at least kept the game interesting. It's been a long time, but I think that the HSR mod had events for a British Expeditionary Force to France (and one for the Afrika Corps.). I guess you could try to write up an event for some British assistance.

I'm still pretty new, I think this is my first legit/full game without cheating or on easy, so taking on germany I think is/was a bit out of reach for me. My goal was to hold them off and then ideally the US and USSR could help wear them down with me. I decided to start researching nukes so I can take them out with that.

ENG AI is quite active in AI France in all of my test games.

Better than nothing, with that I could at least start to push and make some ground I figure. As to martinBG, the UK did invade amsterdam and hold it for half a year, as well as the northernmost norwegian VP. The only time I've seen them with soldiers in france was a single battle, but their soldiers were all low str/org when my soldiers who had been fighting from the beginning were in much better shape Republican spain joined recently, and they were kind enough to put a division or two at each of my border provinces which is nice of them.

I love it when people think the AI can be "nice" or "kind" haha! I do that all the time...serious business, these games! Alliance refusals are very insulting

On another note, in my past games the UK makes a lot of landings in occupied France...but that's obviously after occupation. I do tend to think that the UK is possibly the most useles ally in the game - Canada often proves to be more reliable. As France in the past, I always just left the allies to avoid anyone else mopping up my hard work...

It's the same thing the other way round too though. As a well prepared poland I have successfully managed to push the Nazi's a few provinces back into Germany, and France just sits there still. The allies are just poo at helping eachother...

Of course I don't think the AI has been programmed to feel empathy I just think that spain adding their divisions to mine on my front with germany was very "nice" when compared to the UK's fairly consistent absence. I mean, theres no japan to fight with the royal navy. Theres no one to fight in africa, what are they doing with their divisions? I saw a huge stack just hanging out drinking tea in london, I think it was about 40 or so divisions. One thing I've learned from this war so far? Tactical bombers have saved my nation, without them I would have been moved to vichy. I am curious what happens to a human player in that situation, do they become free france in africa?

You basically turn into the Vichy Regime. The Free France events make no sense to me...nothing seems to actually happen. I was looking for Free France on the map: "where are you?" - "oh, it's still just France". There is no seperate state.

We really need the seperate Vichy France back.

Hmm, well it doesn't seem to be released...at least not in my games. The event comes and nothing happens.

There is a tiny chance (1-3% probably) that Free France is not created (or probably that is created and immediately annexed by France) but in general it's always there.

There is another problem though - mainly that Free France never does anything. Despite having a fair amount of offmap IC, and decent starting manpower, they never actually seem to build military units. Free French forces fought in significant numbers in the African and European theaters - Operation Dragoon, the amphibious landing in southern France after D-day was heavily composed of Free French forces. Just a quick glance at wikipedia shows a not insignificant of divisions and squadrons that saw service, including 4 armored divisions. Of course, with their low IC, some sort of lend-lease event would have to be used to simulate the US shipping the Free French military equipment. As it is, the Free French never actually contribute anything to the war.
