It start with a war in heaven. A awakened peecekeeper empire declared war on the jingoistic reclaimer. A portion of the galaxy choose to be non aligned. A few year into the war, the non alligned faction declared war on both side. And thus, the entire galaxy is at war. Here's an illustration.
Green + Yellow = The Havoc Peacekeeper side (including me)
Red = The Jingoistic Reclaimer block side
Grey or uncolored = The non alligned league
The galaxy is locked in this vicious three way fight. Each fallen empire have at least three 50 k fleet power fleet while the strongest of our youngest race can only field like 30 k.
Earth even fallen once and liberated. I got distracted and lost my fleet. So I am currently rebuilding it. Luckily, the fallen empire has not been back to my territory just yet. The war is even right now. I honestly don't see it ending any time soon. Thanks God that Stellaris don't have war exhaustion mechanic. If it did, I would be utterly screwed.
Oh, My human race has turned to cybermen and had just unlocked the voidborne perk just as the war started. So given time, I can make my small empire strong. Well, unless they invade me again (my empire is right in the middle of both awakened empire. Below is the diplomacy screen from my perspective.
