Hi, I've started hunting for the galaxatron using save scumming (gasp!), and have come up with an interesting theory.
An empty loot box is 29.5% chance, but can't be gotten twice, so if i save scum until i get an empty loot box, continue playing until i can get a reliqury and start save scumming again it should increase my odds.
Quick Math:
1/0.005 = 200 (Normal ave save scums)
0.005 / 0.705 = 0.0071 (Adjusted galaxatron probability after empty loot box, since loot box is 29.5%)
1/0.0071 = 141 (Adjusted ave save scums)
1/0.295 = 3.39 (Ave Save scums until empty)

Approximate average with new method = 144 (saves on average 56 tries)

If im wrong in any assumptions please let me know.

P.S. I know the maths technically was wrong there but serves as a good enough approximation.

Huh, I didn't know this was true, but it is:

Code:
            59 = {
                modifier = {
                    factor = 0
                    has_country_flag = opened_empty_lootbox
                }
                custom_tooltip = lootbox_contents_empty
                set_country_flag = opened_empty_lootbox
                set_country_flag = recent_empty_lootbox
            }

You're correct.

The minmax option here is to save before your first roll, roll until you get the empty loot box, wait 10 years, save, and roll again to get the Galatron.

Damn! But that's still just such horrific odds. I said it in another thread, but along with the crystallin empire what is the point of these ultra rare mechanics if literally almost no player will ever get them naturally.

It blows my mind that two Achievements are basically requiring insane save scumming. What was even the point of being able to raid the galatron when nobody has ever seen it?

It really should be something more reasonable like 1/10 games. or 1/25 games. Not 1/144.

I want to know if Paradox even has statistics of any players who've played over 144 games. I've probably only hit 40 since release with 1150 hours.

A combat option would be nice - like I would make it so that blowing up chors compass should give a large chance to recover it. And a guaranteed chance if barbaric despoiler or have the nihilistic AP. That would mean that Genocidal AIs that attack the station could occasionally get it, too.

A oceans-11-like heist situation could be a good way to guarantee someone gets it, too. If the galaxy collectively opens enough boxes but nobody has yet got the galatron, empires in contact with Chors Compass, get an event about an "immense prize" in Chors compass, and can start a situation to steal the galatron from the station's vaults, in a race against other empires - with the option to trigger random events to slow others down - first to finish it gets it.

It would be so helpful if the AI actually opened reliquaries and could obtain the Galatron that way.

Or if reliquaries weren't arbitrarily limited. I often forget that they exist for the first 100 years, open them during the midgame and then promptly ignore the caravaneers for the rest of the game.

If you're willing to save-scum to get the galatron, why don't you just use the console to obtain it? It's just as much a deviation from the intended gameplay, and far less of a hassle.

The achievement.

I guess if you’re willing to save scum for an achievement, you might as well save edit, but most people consider these two achievements tedious enough that save scumming is fair game.

"the intended gameplay" do you mean 1 in 150 games getting this stupid achievement, then somehow convincing an AI to steal it so you can steal it back without playing any hand in convincing them? :rolleyes:

I suppose you want us to play 100 games as a void dweller to meet the crystallines in the center of the galaxy and get a measly upgrade to my habitats too.

Unlike the stellaris devs, some us have less than 10,000 hours in game.

Just curiousity, what are these "crystallines in the center of the galaxy" that provides "a measly upgrade to habitats"?

So, maybe i have played 40 or more games and i got galatron relic one time, only once when i was starting to play stellaris. I didnt know how rare it was back then, now i miss it.

This is as good a time as any to talk about one of my biggest pet peeves:

Many of the “difficult” achievements are outdated memes and pop culture references without consideration given to whether the achievements are fun to get.

The two Galatron achievements and the one where you have to destroy an enemy Colossus while it’s charging are all examples of this. Somebody on the dev team definitely thought they’d be cool achievement ideas but didn’t give any thought into whether people would enjoy doing these things.

What I want is for people to have fun playing the game. I saw someone doing something in what seemed to me to be a less than ideal way, and I asked why they weren't using what I thought would be a better technique to accomplish their goal. My remark about "intended gameplay" was an attempt to address the only possible explanation I could think of, namely that using the console was qualitatively different than save scumming.

There’s a rare event chain only accessible to VDs about crystalline people who live in the galactic core.

I’ve never seen it myself, but it’s probably one of the rarer event chains given the tight requirements and low MTTH.

I think the problem is, the Stellaris Devs actually don't have all that much time played.
