I have tried again to build megastructures and I have realized that, unless you start with a ring world, repair a megastructure completely seems to me a very demanding and circumstantial requirement, which many times you never get to complete.
If I'm missing something, please tell me. I'm not an expert on the game, but I think limiting this cool mechanic so much is a negative thing.
Does anyone else think the same?

There is a certain weighing behind every tech and prerequisites which the game isn't very good at telling you.

I remember zero points t reactors and star fortresses being the techs you need and I think if you have 4 fortresses it also increase the chance of getting the tech. Same is it you find a ruined one in your territory.

Look for Stefan anon tech tree graphic. He has compiled a graphical version of each tree showing the differenr prerequisites and weigh increases.

No, no. That's not what I mean. I know that megastructures technology has its own requirements, but I was not talking about that.
To get the Galactic Wonders perk you need to completely repair a megastructure. That is the requirement that seems really difficult to me, unless you start in a ring world. I think it limits the gameplay a lot.
By the way, I like the Stefan videos too. The guy can do amazing rushes.

from experience, best way is to restart until getting cybrex and then right away research that thing. it still might be tricky sometimes, though. especially if you don't discover fast enough early on you might end up forever for the few remaining artefacts to show up, and you also need 50 artefacts to unlock their secrets, which will grant you the research options, plus quite a long time to research it

without cybrex i usually manage to research the tech around 2300-2350, and that is after maximising all odds (see tech requirements on stellaris wiki). the rng would even give me repeatables or several times the psi theory instead of megaengineering... whereas with cybrex you'll get it by the end of 2200

having conquered, found, or started with a ruined megastructure helps to unlock galactic wonders but is not necessary as researching megastructures is just ~48K research points and with the other ascension perk (which you should also pick anyway if you want to build a bunch of megastructures in time) you double your construction speed, and then there are also two edicts speeding it up even more

I personally preferred it when getting master builders gave you mega engineering as a research option (you needed zero point and another tech to do it, if i remember)

but on the mega structures front, I sorta feel like galactic wonders is kinda annoying to get yes (unless you find a ruined mega structure) but its quite powerful, honestly i would say you either need to repair a mega structure. or have master builders as a sorta short cut to it (so you can go get master builders and then go get galactic wonders, if you are some sort of grand builder race or something)

But how can I build a megastructure without having Galactic Wonders?
What DLC do you have? Mega-Shipyard, Mega Art Installation, Sentry Array, Science Nexus, Strategic Coordination Center, and Interstellar Assembly are all megastructures you can build without the Galactic Wonders perk, assuming the tech cards pop. You should at least have Science Nexus/Sentry Array available if you have Utopia (since you said you were going for Ring Worlds).

Only Ring World, Dyson Sphere, and Matter Decompressor are locked behind the AP.

But how can I build a megastructure without having Galactic Wonders?

Back in the day Galactic Wonder was required to build all megastructures. But that changed somewhere along the way and by the 2.2 version of the game (Megacorps DLC) it was already so that Galactic Wonder was only required to build Ringworlds, Dyson SPhere, and Matter Decompressor. Other megastructures just require a technology.

TBH I think they're easier than ever to get. Back in 1.9 it used to be that I started on them at best around 2350-2380 and only had a chance to be done with them around 2450. Back then there weren't many mega structures, in 2.2 many more were introduced. Now-a-days I am usually starting on one before 2300 and completely done with all of them before 2400.

That's because you couldn't easily techrush and have an economy back then because you couldn't offset sprawl.

Also tech was way less valuable so there was less incentive to. No output techs until repeatables, armour crusiers or naked red laser corvettes were the ship meta, etc.
