I will try it in 2.2.3 in a sec, hopefully fixed there.

Ah okay, so I was right above that they fixed it ín a hotfix after 2.2.2 at least.
That remains to be seen :p
I will do some extensive testing with it, I sincerely hope its fixed. But 2.2.3 isn't live so its not really a hotfix if we're being technical. Anyways I don't wanna argue this forever, I've got testing to do :D

Sounds good, I was quite "mad" at paradox after the release of 2.2.2 too and made a bug report, postedon twitter and reddit to make them aware that this game breaking bug was still not fixed. Hope you find it's completely fixed now without any way to get around it.

After 2.2 released I think I made like 20 bug reports about various issues I found within 2-3 days...but that's to be expected.

Yeah, 2.2.3 looks solid for now with 10% market fee, I'll do more testing but so far so good. Hopefully they release it to live patch soon enough now that the holidays are over for the most part.

Guess no one read the OP in this thread.

A possible answer to your problem might be the time it takes from the event start to the winner of the galactic market bid is quite long, something like 12 months in game. So you may not be able to go back far enough in your saves to before the bid began.

I don't really understand the criteria for what sets off the market event but from what I can tell it has to be an empire with several contacts with other empires.

I definitely know it feel very wrong that a tiny empire in a backwater system can make a "Galactic Market" with his 4 friends and this is then set in stone for the rest of the universe and game. Would be better if several local markets emerged using this method and then the one that actually develops into an real hub of trade gets upgraded. Right now it seems like a first come, first serve sort of deal which means if you didn't encounter enough other empires fast enough it just goes to the empire that did and had the influence/energy to spare on several decisions. Pretty poorly implemented right now, though in the end all it does is grant one empire a slight reduction in the market fee.

One more 2.2.x feature with tons of potential that got shoe-horned in to fit the theme with no real depth to it. We'll have to wait to see what they do with it in the future or if it just gathers dust like many other things in this game.

I actually enjoy the galactic market quite a bit, for all its flaws. For normal operations I do monthly trades. I peg about 50% of my high production resources for monthly trades. Another purpose I have found for it is waging economic war. I do some educated guessing on what critical resource a competitor is lacking, and I buy up as much as possible of that particular resource on the market. Things become prohibitively expensive for them, in theory. I do not know if the AI ACTUALLY trades on the market. It's also quite a blunt tool. The objective is to normally attack an enemy, but you can also damage others unintentionally. Fortunately, other empires don't care about your intergalactic economic interventionism.

That's the thing about this event. If an empire starts it, everybody (at least everybody in contact with said empire), should get a notification and be able to participate in the event. We are talking about the GALACTIC market, so that would make the most sense. I'm pretty sure that's how it's intended to work though, but obviously doesn't.
After tweaking around I had to fire an event to allow me to participate in the bid, wich I didn't end up winning unfortunately but hey, this time it was fairgame since those shroom living on a ringworld got it now instead of those dying machines, does make more sense.

Seeing the other problems discussed, all those exploits, I can't wait for them to fix the market. Though it is nice to be able to buy slaves in order to emancipate them.
