There are many theories of others saling from europe/asia/africa to america including the cartheginians, chinese, irish, egyptians and so on. Very "primitive" boats can make the jurney over the atlantic.

It doesn't count for putting it in a game (as colonies for example), but for being first to reach America it counts...
Well, hell, anyone could of washed ashore there or crashed...if you can't get back to tell others...meh.

If that is what you mean, I have a hard time believing that Mediterranean galleys could manage the trip down to the Cape of Good Hope which was at least twice as far as the trip to America, even if it is a coastal journey. I have an even harder time believing they could have gotten through the Suez Canal a couple of thousand years before it was dug.

Hmmm, I do belive that some kind of canal linking Med/Nile to red sea may have existed since new kingdom. There certainly was one in this game's time period.

They made long stops, long enough to plant and harvest crops in certain areas. Making it quite feasible. The canal was actually being constructed at the time (never completed though). They started off in the Red Sea and after more than two years they arrived at the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. After all it was the Egyption Pharaoh Necho who had sponsored this so the trip went out from and returned to Egypt.
And of course theres that famous statement from Herodotus that actually if anything speaks for the trip having been carried out: "These men made a statement which I do not myself believe, though others may, to the effect that as they sailed on a westerly course round the southern end of Libya [Africa], they had the sun on their right - to northward of them."
But of course we only have the narrative of an ancient Greek writer, and not one of the most reliable at that. But at least its more than what we have for claims of Phoenicians or Carthaginians reaching America.
