I think we are going to definitely see 1380-1444 and maybe 1810-1850 DLC's in the future (not exactly those dates, but somewhere close). - come on, who doesn't want to play as Golden Horde again?
Yeah but the rest of the game looks incredibly polished, there is not much room for improvements in the actual period of the game it takes place. Far better than EU3 or CK2 when they were released. Out of top of my head
1) We might see "trade republics" dlc which would make those nation much more unique than now (closer to CK2).
2) Complete overhaul of "missions and decisions" and "similar interests coalitions" - I love missions and decisions but once you are get good at the game or play the nation one too many times, those missions get fairly predictable and boring and same thing with organizations like "HRE" - 200 years into the game, it either doesn't exist or it's a blob of 6 countries - "progressive coalitions" would make opportunities to create unique coalitions.
For example england, spain and portugal could create a coalition which would together decide on colonizing the new world, they could decide who can colonize which parts (similar to Treaty of Tordesillas), block together other countries from colonizing and decide on trade or how to deal with natives. Another example - East asian nations could have a opportunity to create in 1600-1700s a coalition which would together westernize, help against western powers during this period. And similar thing will be in missions and decisions where you would get unique missions based on state of your country. There is some of that in the game already, but I think it can be made much better.
3) More unique stuff to religions and theocracies - there is always room for improvement.
4) Completely ahistorical DLC with Aztecs...or Targaryens or nazi time travelers, either way it will be fun and half of the forum will lose their shit, for that alone it would be worth it
