Funky map glitch

Hiya, folks! I think I'll let the screenshots speak for themselves on this one:









I'm not sure what to make of this. I've been playing some total conversion mods (The Elder Kings and A Game of Thrones) lately, and it doesn't happen in the game for either of those. I'm running on a Windows 8 HP laptop with an nVidia GeForce GT 635M.

Game version number is 1.092 and checksum is ICBN. Any suggestions would be nice! Thanks in advance.

Clearly not a bug, the game would be unsaleable if everyone was getting this! Moved to Tech Support.

please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), settings.txt, system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload). Also open setup.log, search for "checksum", and paste that line only in here.

Alright, here are the files. For whatever reason, the file uploader is giving me an error message when I try to upload the error file (isn't that ironic?) but the document is blank anyway.

Ah, Win8, you lucky duck. Anyway you need to get the very latest video driver from Intel, the ones that come in Win8 are awful. The other files look OK.

Now that's odd, because i have an nVidia graphics card. The dxdiag says I'm running off the base windows video card. What gives?

Anyway, I updated the nVidia card and that didn't fix it, and the Intel card says it doesn't have any updates. Hunting around now to figure out how to switch to the nvidia card.

And I guess the other strange thing is that I've played the game on this computer before without this graphics thing happening. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it- no dice.

Ah yes, you have the dual video card setup, Optimus. There is a way of telling it to run CK2 on the nVidia, a bit of googling finds stuff like this

The first thing to do is, go to your nVidia driver by right clicking on your desktop and choose 'nVidia control panel'. If you can't find it go and download the driver. After you are at the control panel of nVidia, in the left side of that window there is 'Manage 3D settings' Under the 'Select a Task'. Click on that and you see in the other part there is a 'global settings' tab and 'program settings'. Go to the global one and in the 'preferred graphics processor' choose 'High Performance nVidia Processor'. You should then have the optimus technology when you choose apply. The 'program settings' in the other hand is to choose what graphics card you want to use for each program of your preference. So you choose on your program and select your preferred graphic card there.

Still no luck. I tried specifying CK2 to run with one graphics card, then the other, and neither of them fixed the problem. What I don't understand is why I only have this issue in the vanilla version.

I also have this problem after playing about 2-3 hours then the lands turn black I start lagging badly then I just quit and play again . I play longer when I go to settings and change :

draw_terrain=yes
draw_water=no
draw_borders=yes
draw_trees=no
draw_rivers=no
draw_postfx=yes
draw_sky=no
draw_bloom=no
draw_tooltips=yes
draw_hires_terrain=no
draw_citysprawl=yes

but it still eventually lags and i quit again

The settings are in your \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II

Thanks for the advice, Onimusho. Toyed around with those settings and found that if I set draw_hires_terrain to "no" it fixes the problem. Thanks for you help! Case closed.

I used to have this same problem (btw Onimusho you can turn draw_citysprawl off for even better performance) but for me it got fixed with the latest patch
