Also, in CK1 your realm could get invaded by a massive foreign army, and a couple of lords within your realm would do nothing while the invaders tried to take over the whole kingdom. Sure, some nobles might prefer to bide their time or take advantage of a chaotic situation, but they wouldn't just let themselves be conquered or have their lands trampled and ruined by raging hordes from who-knows-where.

That's the wrong way to look at it. If they hate their current lord enough, they won't see it as a foreign ravager, but as, at very worst, a status quo scenario. Why should they fight to defend the legal rights of somebody they don't want to rule them?

Granted, they will get annoyed if their own castle is besieged, but their garrison does fight back then.

I like this way better. You have obligations as a vassal. One of them is granting your liege a levy. If you don't want that, then you'll have to take up arms against him!

I agree I like this better and always asked for this with CK1. I never thought it was right I could just outright deny my King support in a war since it was my king who gave me my lands in the first place. I think many players forget that because they start out with lands and don't even think where they came from. So, I really hope Paradox keeps it this way. Plus, I don't recall having to pay for my levies if my king takes them? I could almost swear I read in the manual that the King pays for their upkeep.
