Fun scenarios that aren't bookmarked.

I have a unique idea for a thread. We name fun scenarios that we discovered that are not the default bookmarked dates.

I have recently started a game with France in 1649. Louis XIV was recently appointed king, and France is in peace for the first time since he became king. Historically Louis XIV created the historical borders of France today (minus Avignon) by reclaiming the French provinces taken by the Habsburgs in the Franco-Spanish war. He also expanded further into Canada and into the U.S.

I have not played very far into the game but France is a powerhouse at this point. It is a rather fun scenario.

Russia and Poland+Lithuania are in a war for dominance

Reformation starts now like 99% of the time

Spanish domination over the Americas starts now

if you start a little later in the year you can play out an epic war Spain v France over the control of Italy!

and of course, epic battle in Scandinavia as Sweden rips the chains of union from Denmark(i think if you start in may or something)

only thing i dont like is that your a few years short of seeing the Mughals appear(if you start here and eventually see the mughals... i'd be shocked)

Around 1535 or so. You have Henry VIII, Charles V, Francis I, Gustav Vasa, Ivan the Terrible, Suleiman the Magnificent, Tahmasp, and Humayun. And the Reformation. Lots of great power maneuvering with famous rulers.

England around 1650.

Play as a Reformed Republican Dictatorship and duke it out with the Dutch (and the Spanish and French later on). You also have a small, but useful colony in India (Madras), and there are some mighty blobs around that will provide you with long-term challenges (France, Spain, Austria, the Ottomans, Poland, Sweden, Russia, the Mughals and China).

I've had some fun with that one.

Early 1519 as Spain
The crowns of Austria and Spain are unified in Charles V. /I. and Spain just gained spanish Flanders, while having a lot to do in America to gain colonies and strike the aztecs and incas. You need to hold all this together, as France and England are your most powerful rivals among others.

1529 is an awesome starting date. You've got all of the superkings that were mentioned by Solmyr except for replacing Humayun with Babur, so the historical lucky nations option is more than appropriate.

This is the only date that gives you both the Cognac War and the Habsburg-Ottoman war. I found that by starting at the bookmarked dates, whatever war is just starting would end up not only starting the game off with a bang, but would lead to lots of interesting consequences that would tend to "guide" subsequent events for a while. I like the idea of Italy being a playground for major powers.

Habsburg is a monster, but they've got a lot of dangerous enemies who all want to cut them down to size and who start at war with them. Nobody can complain about weak Ottomans in this game either, because they're extremely dangerous.

Change the emperor to Charles if you want and retrigger the reformation so that it spreads to more than a few additional provinces and it's perfect.

The start of the Burgundy-Austria war (1474.10.21) or random dates between Burgundy annexing Bar and Lorraine (1475.11.30) and the day before Charles the Bold dies (1477.1.5) and Burgundy is broken up.

If you can beat the Austrian doomstacks then the world is your oyster but beating them is a huge challenge.

Unfortunately I believe it does. Really would be nice if they could exclude it since it doesn't affect actual gameplay.
