Still playing in these days but unlucky I've got very little time to play (mainly during weekend).
So, starting from Tangiers (I admit Canaries are very hard to manage) now I'm king of Mauritania and Wales (1180BC I guess). I'm working to become king of Tunisi and king of Ireland (yeah, gaelic pride force me to unify all gaelic laddies under my banner
) but to be honest I don't want to have too many battlefronts and to have a very high BadBoy so I proceed slowly. Once achieved these kingdoms my next target will be Kingdom of Egypt. If I'll have some spare years I think I'll also try to create/restore the Kingdom of Gerusalam but it's too soon to speak, I've got tons of conquests to do before...

Bah, a real man would only start out with the province in the Canary Islands, not a backup in wales.
Obvious, that's why it's difficult. I started 2 games with only Canary Islands but I had too many problems, so I started a new game in Tangiers, south of Gibralter and managed to become duke and then King. I had no backup in Wales.
