Regarding the cultures of the low countries, in 1066 the counties of Arnhem (61), Guelders (62), Holland (64), Zeeland (66), Nedersticht (68), Antwerpen (146), Brabant (147), Cleves (151), Maastricht (152) and the counties of Brugge and Yperen in the Duchy of Flanders should have Dutch Culture. Dokkum (58), Frisia (59), Ostfriesland (60) and Westfriesland (65) should have Frisian culture. Groningen (67) and Oversticht (69) should have Saxon culture. Zutphen (63) could either have Dutch or Saxon culture.

I mostly agree, but go further. Much of the Low Countries were Old Dutch (otherwise Old Low Franconian), and if you were to split Old Dutch from the Franconian blob, you should probably split Rhenish and 'Middle' Franconian (not sure why it's called "middle" when it's in Franconia, the furthest east).

Wasn´t it taken from a video though? and 19200 x 10800 is huge.
That's what I mean. If it's from a video can we instead get the art source images. Maybe not their native format if it's some dev tool format but still native resolution and PNG or HEIC. Uncompressed or with a lossless compression file type. I wanna really zoom in

Why is Great Xia called Mjinjaa? Does PDX always choose the most obscure terms for some reason? Why not call Great Liao by its endonym as well then?

View attachment 582000
According to Wikipedia:
The full title of the Western Xia as named by their own state is reconstructed as /*phiow¹-bjij²-lhjij-lhjij²/ which translates as "Great State of White and Lofty" (大白高國), also named as "The Great Xia State of the White and the Lofty" (白高大夏國), or called "mjɨ-njaa" or "khjɨ-dwuu-lhjij" (萬祕國). The region was known to the Tanguts and the Tibetans as Minyak.

Paradox's insistence on making the Northern Levant independent of the Abbasids in 867 is funny when they weren't. If they wanna weaken the Abbasids, then make the governor of Jund Filastin independent.

Isa Shaybani was openly refusing to acknowledge the new Caliph in 867. If that isn't independent i dont know what is

Why in Gods name is Oultrejourdain and Shammar de jure part of Egypt?
I guess it's the same reasoning as behind making K. of Wendland a de jure part of HRE. It's a soft railroading for a more historic outcome than with AI left just with the historic and geographic context.
It's actually quite astonishing, how much the PDS' team ignores the geographical "push and pull" factors in almost all of their games.
Great historical strategic and economic struggles would lead to para-historic outcomes, but only if the mechanisms were there in the first place. Meanwhile we get a turn into the RPG direction rather than good grand strategy of the middle ages with super important dynastic element.
Well, there's no pleasing everyone I guess.

What is Kosala doing in 867? Kosala was a kingdom from the 7th to 5th century BCE. The region during this time was ruled by the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty which came to power after the Gupta Empire fell.

It might be because Indians don't use Dynasty names for their realms in CK3.

If you look at the map, there is no Indian Realms with dynasty names anymore

I don't quite understand that, to be honest. At least some should use dynastic naming or Clan government, if not all; empires like the Gupta Empire, for example, totally should use that name instead of "Rajasthan" or something

EDIT: I just realized that the 1066 map does have dynasty-named realms in India, so maybe it's never and the 867 screenshot is from an older version? I don't know

Its hard to tell exactly for 1066. But what you are describing is too modern.

Arnhem province would be Saxon. Holland Zeeland and Nedersticht would still potentially be Frisian, by the fact that the counts of Holland were considered Frisians and Counts of Westfrisia.

Groningen is rough. The Ommelanden were definitely Frisian while the city has always been Saxon.

- - -

With regards to Empires and Kingdoms and De Jure things they made some odd choices.

For starters Holstein. It was de jure always part of Saxony as Nordalbingia.

The lack of a Duchy of Picardy is sad in France. They could have easily fit in Artois even.

The Giant Arabia Kingdom is disgusting and should be split, Sultanate of Hejaz, Sultanate of Oman, Sultanate of Nejd. Would all make it better.

Empire of Arabia being like that is limiting. Having an Empire of Egypt would be great.

I found a map for the 867 starting date on reddit a while ago and downloaded it.

I found it in reddit but lost the link.

I hope it helps a bit and a lot of thanks for the reddit user.

Lappland seems to be ruled by a Swede since it's all united under the duchy of Norrland. Interesting.

Makes me wonder if this is the release version of the 867 start.

English translation:

'Two waves of migration from Frisians to Northern Frisia around the year 800 and in the 11th century, as well as the emergence of the County of Holland in the 10th and 11th centuries, meant a shift in the core area of the Frisians.

Around the year 700, the area inhabited by Frisians was located between the Zwin and the Weser.
Around the year 1200, the area inhabited by Frisians was located between Alkmaar and the river Vidå in Denmark.'

It is difficult to say what the exact situation was in 1066, but I think that the linguistic situation in 1066 would be closer to those of 1200. Considering that we only have two startdates, having a smaller Frisian area in 1066 also offers a nice contrast with 867. About Arnhem you could be right.

One thing to remember is that 1200 is after a major flooding event breaking Westfrisia off of Middle Frisia. Inevitably this would create a break which after one more major flooding allowed the Count of Holland to conquer Westfrisia.
