The way alliances and war pulling in this game works is total fuba and makes no bloody sence.

having a war againt Comminist France and Checeslovacia as germany. No other active part in the AXIS specially not Italy who is a war magnet. No other country getting involvede.

Then shit hits the fan, Italy attacks Yugoslavia who have garenti from Romania. (Not at war with any of thise)

Romania calls/pull France in to war.
my war gets magicly Italies war and now I am also at war with Romania via France.

stil same continet so ok could have some merits

here it gets wierd.

Mexico have civil war who for some reason pull US into war and US then join France alliance???? see any connections here. ......
Mexico then moves on to declaring war on facist england who also joins France alliance ????

by this time I stopped becourse of this insanity. All the work and effort to sway differend nations with friendship, nonaggresions pact, trade etc simple do not count for sh... due to this insane war pulling system.
Why should Romania join a war against me? had very good relation and trade. on there way to joining me. Not allied to Italy so wtf. why is it now my war also.??
Why should US join do to a civil war in mecixo? have no relation to any of thise parties same goes for England.
and same goes for England who btw had gone down the pro-Axis tree. and very friendly terms.

in short
France have garenty Romania who in turn have garenti Yoguslavia who gets pulled into war by Italy.
yoguslavia calls Romania who calls france and I inharet Italies war and that is without having any relations to Italy no alliance or part AXIS

The alliance/war merge system and the peace treaty system are the top 2 biggest problem of HOI4 from start. After so many dlc these high priority items remain untouched.

Historically Italy ditched Mussolini and changed sides, but it seems a regular occurance that defeated nations will readily rejoin the war in alliance with the nation / alliance that defeated them; defeated Japan joining the Allies for example. The same goes for Vichy which should not become an Axis power, but a weak neutral(ised) puppet. Capitulated nations should be reluctant to get involved and those who defeated them should be reluctant to involve them. Okay have special conditions for a situation like Italy above.

I've seen neutral minors, Bulgaria, or Turkey, suddenly join Axis at a point where Japan was defeated, Italy had capitulated and Germany was close to defeat. Why suddenly join the losing side ?

Last game I abandoned after neutral Estonia suddenly joined the Axis. The German-Soviet front had been in stalemate roughly on the old Soviet Polish border for four years. Japan defeated. Stalemate also in Africa. Why would a Baltic minor decide to join a war that's been in stalemate for four years ?

The main reason why I abandoned the basegame in favour of mods. Pretty much all mods I know of forbit random alliance joining, for good reason. It's so annoying.

And let's not forget the uselessness that is Non Aggression Pacts

I once had a ND with Britain as Italy. France was doing something silly, and the Allies faction had dissolved. So all they had was a guarantee from Britain

I declared on France believing the NA would beat the guarantee, or at least nullify it

It didn't

Yeah, Non-Agression won't make a guarantee ignored, if you attack the guaranteed nation first.

Now, if you were in faction with Britain, you could get away with murder, a lot of the time.

Sometimes I can see it making sense, but just as often the system just breaks. The alliance system is geared to be "Team Ideology" with a bit of mutual war opponent attached. I have seen a game where Fascist Mexico and Communist Poland joined the Allies who were fighting both the Axis and Comintern. Some factions I think should be region-limited (see: Italy, Finland, and Venezuela joining the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere).

Diplomacy in general is a joke.

I think the game needs some sence of "regional interests" which determine the actions of countries basically by modifying the Wartension score reginally. At the same time Wartension needs to be redesigned to not be at 100% that fast and to not stay there.
As an example: The sphere of interests for the USA at the beginnig of the game should be
- North America: Very High, if Civil war breaks out in Canada or Mexico the US will very likely get involved.
- South America and Carribean: High If an outside power starts grabbing Land the US will get involved. If an south american Country that is not on very good terms with the us starts grabbing a lot of land the US will get involved.
- Pacific/East Asia: Somewhat High: America has territories there and would aim to keep the balance of Powers. I think involvement in China was mostly based on opposing Japan that was expanding in the region. If Japan was on very good terms with US and not touching their interests in the pacific the US would probably not care too much about China.
- Europe: Medicore US trades with Europe and has cultural ties witrh UK and France.
- Central Asia and Africa: Low, most Americans cant find these on the map ;)

This system would then ensure that we dont see strange alliances too early in the game.
