In a fit of unfettered optimism I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 last night from 8.1. So far everything runs but HOI III FTM seems a bit jerky. When selecting units there is a slight but noticeable delay and when scrolling the map it is not smooth, it moves in jerks. The game is still playable and runs at a reasonable speed but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to smooth it out a bit? I turned off trees and advanced water and slowed the scroll speed down which helped a little. I tried to change from 1600 x 900 but the game would not let me. It is not worth it to me to add more memory or a dedicated graphics card but if anyone knows anything simple that could help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I think your course is correct - nix water + trees, and take your resolution down as low as you can stand and that's basically all there is to be done methinks. You could try closing excess programs and processes if you're working with the bare minimum that can help sometimes too since you're experiencing an FPS problem. I would also check to make sure you don't have a part of your machine that is overheating - FPS drops can occur when your GPU or CPU are overheating so giving the thing a good blow-out may help too.

It could be that your graphicsdriver is this generic one windows supplies instead of the proper custom driver from your graphic card manufacturer (e.g. Nvidia or AMD).
Try installing the respective one from the website of your graphic card manufacturer.

I tried to change the resolution but when I went to the options/video tab the stated resolution was 1600 x 900 and I could not change it. Clicking on the arrow gave me no options. The driver could be an issue but my laptop is an HP with an Intel integrated graphics board which i would think Windows would update properly. Would it be worthwhile to check the Intel website anyway?

My system is;

HP - Pavilion 17.3" Laptop
4th Gen Intel® Core™ i3-4000M processor, 2.4 GHz Dual core, Haswell architecture
Intel® HD Graphics 4600
4GB Memory
750GB Hard

Not necessary I think.
The HD 4600 is supported correct by W10 theres no need for any special driver AFAIK.

There are some reported problems on the internet but Intel says Windows 10 supports the HD 4600. I downloaded the latest driver anyway, stand alone exe file, and will check to see which driver my machine is running. I will probably just run Windows Update and see if that helps. Thanks.

Found a problem but I do not know if it will fix itself or I need to update on my own. When I upgraded to Windows 10 it installed a basic graphic drive call "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter", not the most up to date driver for my graphics card from Intel. The installed driver is from 2006, strange. It may take care of this on it's own but I will likely have to update the driver myself. May not help but hopefully will not hurt. Thanks.

I'm having the same issue as OP; i upgraded my OS to Win10 and upgraded some of my hardware, and after downloading/installing the HOI3 collection in the proper sequence, FTM seems to work fine, but i cannot scroll with the mouse (which makes the game much more difficult to play, though the Pgup & Pgdn keys do allow zooming).

Do y'all think resolution and/or trees/water settings would affect scrolling/zooming? Unlike OP, i do have options to adjust resolution, but so far nothing seems to allow zooming.

Search for Drivers in windows 10, the results should list a window in your control panel that shows the different devices. One of those should be the display adapters. Clicking on that should show what display devices are enabled. Right after I updated to Windows 10 it only listed the "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". Right click on the display adaptor shown and select properties. This will show you what is enabled right now, the driver loaded on my computer was from back in 2006. I have an HP so I used the HP update tool, not windows update, and it installed a different driver, 10.18.15.4248. Not the latest one, it is a year old, but HOI3 now runs much better on a short initial test, scrolls smoother and no obvious delay in game play and I can change resolution now. I have not actually played since I installed the new driver. When I check the control panel, through the systems and devices tab/display adapters tab, it now shows HD 4600 as the graphics card so it is at least recognizing my card now. So I recommend trying windows update again. If that fails try your computer manufacturer's update mechanism, either on board your PC or at their website. Lastly you could contact the computer manufacturer or Microsoft directly and see if they have some advice.

Since I am a Geneticist, not a computer expert by any means, I cannot in good conscience tell you to go in and make changes on your own. Any advice from me would be highly suspect which is why I advised going through Microsoft or the manufacturer. Someone with much more expertise than I have could comment on things to do but I am not qualified beyond saying what I did and urging caution. Also I could easily have gotten the terms or tab listings wrong in the text above as I am not near my computer right now, I am at work, but the gist is that try and find out what driver you are running right now and see if it is out of date. The web is good for finding out details on drivers or problems other people have had but you have to watch out with advice from anyone not affiliated with the corporation that made the product.

DABegley, i really appreciate you taking the time to look into this issue.

Lamentable, i've tried everything that you recommended without any success. I've changed to all resolutions, removed trees/advanced water, changed the refresh rate, updated all my mouse and GPU drivers (they were all up to date), made sure multisampling was set to '0',' and yet nothing seems to affect the mouse. Here's what even more weird; if i press and hold the mouse scroll wheel down (press into the mouse, not rolling the wheel forward/backward), i can scroll the map in all direction, so i know that the mouse interfaces with the program; it just won't zoom in/our or scroll up/down in menus.

Does anyone know if HOI3 has any issues with the Nvidia 720 GT (2GB) video card? Could that be the problem?

Additionally, the Microsoft wireless mouse driver (which Win10 recommending keeping) was from 2006, but still the latest version. Should i try a manual rollback with a new driver from someone else?
