Not just the UK. S. Africa, Canada, and Australia launch their own private invasions.
This is why the invasion ability must be altered to have to be researched then improved
to do more and more invasions.

Just remember that ability to transport=ability to invade. While it would make sence for minors to just not buil transports at all, the UK&ita&GER&JAP needs tham
from day one.

Hopefully PI will pick this up and include it in the next patch. The only fix I know at the moment is to deploy 2 MIL div per port and the AI will not invade. Someone posted it and i tried it and it works.

Yeah this is a problem.

I have had random New Zealand divisions attack ports in Germany.

I had the Brits land in Yugoslavica and they were destroyed easily.

I then had more brits land in Normandy lol. But I was getting ready for Sealion and had three army groups about 700,000 men just a few provinces back from the port.

Needless to say I captured/killed about hundreds of thousands of brits as you just take the port encircle the remaining divisions and destroy.

I wouldn't mind amphibious invasions if the AI actually put some troops behind it. Not just one division who went suicide bomber on me and gets executed. I would actually be satisfied if the AI would put some effort.

I know but its not something that can be fixed by the community except maybe for a few modders that actually know how to change AI programming and such.

This is my first FtM (3.05 IIRC) game. I'm playing as Germany in 36, the invasion of France was going well when the Brits, Belgians, and S. Africans invaded. I had to call off the invasion of Southern France to deal with it. Not really that annoying, but I am only in 40

It is a good thing that the ai does invasions but its doing in ways that make no sence and burns the ai troops.

There needs to be a distinction made by paradox for transports ingame. 1 for transportation of troops and 1 for amphibious sea invasions.Should be impossible for most nations to do both espeically in early years..

We also need development of amphibious equipment such as landing craft, LST's to move armoured units. As it is, its currently too simplified and allows ai to do things that are dumb or impossible.
We need a parameter added into unit files that we can use to tell which type of unit can board what type of transport.
Examples:
can_use_transport = yes/no
can_use_landing_craft = yes/no
can_use_lst = yes/no

If we can get these new types of units ingame with some on and off switches that would be great for modding.

Also the ai needs to cheat and have knowledge of exactly what it is facing in terms of defenders at and near the beaches.

Whatever solution is done needs to work in both europe and the pacific.

I did. Although it was usually along the lines of "U R such a noob! Sealion is easy. LULZ" or "That German strategy only works because the RN won't intercept your transports."

In fairness to the AI, it at least tries to intercept transports it knows about now. The hard part is getting the AI to build enough RADAR to let it see what is coming.

Bubba is right that the problem is bigger than just stupid AI putting troops ashore in a dumb place. The problem has to do with a failure of the AI to either know that 10 Germany army corps are waiting for it to land in the west, or that if Germany is not at war with the Soviet Union, then Overlord is a pointless, futile act.

This would make the AI say, "Huh, France is garrisoned by a theater that has 25 armored divisions, plus a ton of infantry. Maybe I should just sit back and bomb for awhile."

This is a good idea. It would allow the AI to behave reasonably.

When it comes to the mechanics, I have always felt that in HOI3 it was too hard to detect enemy ships in coastal sea-zones and too easy to detect them in the middle of the ocean. There should be a sort of detection bonus for coastal sea-zones, while finding the enemy in other sea-zones should be harder IMO. I'm not talking about seeing the exact composition of the fleet, but at least the counters and size.

Bubba is right that the problem is bigger than just stupid AI putting troops ashore in a dumb place. The problem has to do with a failure of the AI to either know that 10 Germany army corps are waiting for it to land in the west, or that if Germany is not at war with the Soviet Union, then Overlord is a pointless, futile act.
It’s even bigger then that because the main issue in my opinion is that the AI cant doesn’t take the overall strategic situation into account.

I.e. The AI as the UK launches an invasion in France straight after the French surrender while it’s also at war with Italy. By invading France, it not only kills off its own troops, but in the process gives the Italians N-Africa as a present. The AI overlooks two important strategic decisions:
1 I can’t beat the Germans alone in 1940.
2 I have other theatres that need protection too.

Now I know its not gonna be easy to fix this, but as far as I am concerned it should be on the top of the to-do-list!
