I just wondered if the HoI 3 development team was aware that China had a civil war prior to the Japanese invasion, because a interlocking system of alliance and GoI's doesnt really cut it trying to represent a civil war...

This is a area that FtM should be focusing on, rather than (in my own humble and no doubt uninformed opinion) naval gimicks for the Western Powers.

There are some easy improvements that can be made to China in order to represent the civil war in a better aspect-

1. Give ComChi some more IC - Mao's lands were very well ran, allowing for much higher output than they would normaly.
2. Com and Nat Chi start of at war.
3. In order to avoid #2 leading to Mao surrendering, reduce much of the infastructure of ComChi to level 1.
4. More events would be nice (thinking of many that were in HoI 2 - United Front, Nanking etc)
5. Possibility of troop defection from the Nats to ComChi and vice versa.

Thoughts?

A bit late. FTM will be out in 48 hours.

I forgot to mention that this would be better suited to a patch.

I would suggest to try out the HPP mod it is really fun and tense playing Com China with that mod :D

Its not the modders job to add a war that clearly should have been in from the start.

Why? If you can actually win the war it'll be unhistorical and people will complain. If you can't win the war they'll stop fighting when Japan invades anyway.

I have read a little bit about this topic and I understand that this conflict started to be serious only in may 1946 but everything before this year was only small clashes(which could be interpreted in the game as militia rebels/revolutionaries) and the encirclement campaigns were mostly to surround and destroy underground milita, and these campaigns are already at their final steps when the game begins.

Yes, so the way around that is to utterly prevent it from happening and pretend it didnt happen...

I'd love to see more flavor added to the Chinese theater but historically the Chinese warlords (it's hard to think of these areas as countries) were extremely corrupt and when it came to fighting very rarely did it on a unified basis as each warlord wanted to keep as many troops alive as possible to prop up their own little area of control. The Chinese were famous for over reporting the number of troops they had in their control in order to get more pay/supplies from the central government (and later) America.

I don't envy the person/people who try to mod or create a patch to try and recreate the Chinese theater.

Well that's not at all accurate. The KMT continued to attack the Communists throughout the war, even despite their "unified front." It's part of what makes the Chinese communists so interesting. Well it would anyway, if there was any attention at all devoted to the conflict. It's a shame really that it's been completely ignored in HoI3.

Might sound fun right now but ingame it would be awful.

It already is awful ingame. If you play ComChi, your limited by expansion, and as NatChi, you struggle to be rid of your awkward rebel offspring.

Now, with a little careful work it can be much better. If the ComChi's holdings were hard to reach via a barrier of 1 infra provinces, then they have a good change of holding against both the Nationalists and the Japanese. Also, if NatChi suffers a base RR factor, you can then have communist uprisings in the interior itself.
