So I bought another pdx game.
I watched some streams and read all the diaries, it wasn't very clear in terms of how we can customize the FTL options.

Specifically what I'm looking for is for all species to only have Hyperdrive at the start, but can unlock with tech warp and wormhole + more later on.

Is what I'm describing possible?

You can "set" the start of the campaign to one of the three FTL modes - I'm not entirely certain if doing so restricts the entire galaxy to (FTL mode chosen) until late-game or not...

According to what they said on the stream, if you set it to Hyperdrive only, warp and wormhole will never be available.

I don't recall that being 100% confirmed. I feel this couod likely be modded regardless.

I would imagine that jump drive mighthe available even if restricted to hyperdrive only.

That's my hope. I want a game where only hyperdrive is available initially, but other modes are also there as time goes by. I don't think it will be too hard to add, would be very nice for flavour.

I'd imagine if there is enough demand/lobbying/spam requests it could be added as a setup option. All you'd need from an interface point of view would be an extra checkbox for "at start/entire game". I'd guess it wouldn't be very hard for them to add it, and it'd be an easy mod.

Since it falls between the two standard extremes of "Everyone can start with what they want and try all of them with research" and "ony one FTL flavour ever for everyone" I can't see any game balance issues or that it should affect Ironman (which a mod might have to).

I think we'll have to see how trivial it is to mod them in as a researchable tech. It seems that, from a design point of view, they wanted people to choose between the pros/cons of the three.

However, they did say you can obtain the other types later on regardless of what you picked at the start.
To me it seems more natural that at the beginning everyone only has the technology to perform Hyperspace, and then later on discover technology for other forms that's less restrictive.

According to what they said on the stream, if you set it to Hyperdrive only, warp and wormhole will never be available.

I was under the impression that you could research any ftl tech. Surely this option is only available so that those who want to can place a limit on ftl tech, rather than being compulsory?

So far i got it from the stream you simple say all use what they random get or you force all too the same kind of FTL in the options so if you want that every body use just hyperdrive then pick this options if you give all random i assume you may can get the tech for other FTL from the ships of enemy which used them since you can scan what thes lft behind

There seems to be some confusion. Currently there appear to be two options:

1) All three FTL techs are in play and can be researched by anyone. One of them is chosen as your starting FTL tech.

2) Only one FTL tech is in play, for everyone, and the other techs can't be researched.

What the OP is suggesting is a third option between the two where only one FTL tech is in play for everyone at the beginning, but the others can be researched.

Where was this stated? In the stream they specifically mention being able to research different weapons than what you choose at the start, but not so for the initial FTL methods. Did I miss something somewhere? Seemed to be a very clear implication that this is not the case from everything I've seen discussed.

Can you say when they said it in the stream?
The description for ftl methods says that you can't have the other basic ftl methods in one playthrough. But the description could be wrong/old.
