Logged in after a month or two and I see they're still planning to push the changes to FTL.

I want my money back. This is fraud. I did not pay for a game to have features that were a reason I bought the game in the first place removed.

I bought a game, I bought DLC and now I can never play it again because a core reason I bought it will be removed and I will be left with a game impossible for me to enjoy. I would never have bought a hyperlane space game.

Incorrect. The game you bought is still here. What you will not be able to play is the version 2.0 and the ones after (along DLC but no worry for you since those are paid).

So keep playing the "game you bought" in the state you bought it and move on.

Ahhh the good Paradox lapdogs and their atrocious sarcasm..
Features you paid for got removed - nothing will change that fact, especially not such a mediocre sarcasm and cringeworthy """""humor"""""".

You either believe this nonsense or you are just trolling...

I hope this thread will be closed at some point as everything that could be said about this has been and now people are going to get angrier and calling names because some will still think things will get back to what it was and others will keep trying to explain them it will not and why.

Legally it's not, you still have access to what you paid for, if the current code(1.9 and prior) isn't fraudulent marketing, then it won't stand up in court, because you still own the license to that code.

If however they do remove access to prior game versions, then yes you could make a case. Legally, this will be handled as an update that you are not required to take.

Like say a directx version supports X feature but it's not in the next version, you can still use the previous code so there is no legal issue.

A developer can remove support for code so long as previous versions remain available, which they are, so far.

--

to make matters more complicated, any refunds would be done through steam, and this means both the developer and customers must use steam's refund policy, so even if the devs wanted to allow the refunds, steam probably does not.

--

I'm more or less fine with people not liking the changes(it's more issues along the lines of hyperlanes being non-strategic, etc that i get involved in, I feel a discussion in those tangental areas are worthwhile), their free to have their opinions of entertainment as much as the next guy, but these arguments for refunds are unfounded, especially since Paradox has been advertising the changes WELL in advance of the patch's and expansion's release.

I am livid. Paradox is never getting another cent out of me and I will tell everyone I know not to trust this developer, because they will not hesitate to pull the rug out from under you and change core features of a game you already paid for, for no discernible reason, for no defendable reason. You could already play hyperlane only. This just removes options and changes the game to one I never would have purchased in the first place.

I have a question about Cherryh: will warp be completely removed from the game? As in: will the non-players that previously warp such as the Tiyanki, Nomads and Prethoryn use hyperdrives, too?
yep - thats a great decision, is not it? Invaders from another dimension, invaders from another galaxy, crazy AI who wiped out all life in the galaxy billiards years ago or aliens from shroud - they all using hyperlines .
Incredible variability.
Sarcasm

P.S. I forgot about Drake - a creature from another reality that violates a number of laws of physics in this world - will also use hyperdrive. Oh yeah

But 1.9 with new bugfihes, new DLC, new mods and new anything that will require new code is exactly the game you bought two month or more ago?

yep - thats a great decision, is not it? Invaders from another dimension, invaders from another galaxy, crazy AI who wiped out all life in the galaxy billiards years ago or aliens from shroud - they all using hyperlines .

You argue based on what you would like to have. You want it, so everything that not "it" must be illogical. Of course, that's the same problem as discussing about the laws of magic: Magic does not exist. Hyperlanes do not exist. Warp does not exist. Wormholes might exist, who knows? But no FTL travel like in Stellaris actually exists.

Since all that stuff does not exist, it's completely random what you think is logical. Nothing there is logical. It's your personal preference masking as logic. Any writer worth his salt can find dozens explanations on why these guys will use the hyperlanes. Or why they absolutely not need to use the hyperlanes. Finding reasons is easy, because all that stuff is fiction. So you any argument made from "This has to be this way" is complete nonsense, because "This way" is just your personal preference. There are simply no "real" premises to build any argument on. Physics has actually nothing to do with it. Physics in Stellais is the way the developers want it to be. So you cannot argue how it should be based on some vague feeling how it should be.

How does an author actually find the reasons why something works or not? The author checks what the result should be. If the story/game needs hyperlanes as near universal way of travelling that even the space dragon needs to follow, perhaps for the big showdown near a black hole, then the author will decide on one reason why that's the case. If the author needs the aliens to be able to appear anywhere randomly, the author will choose a reason why that's what's happening. It's easy.

So, in other words, don't claim that some fictional way of breaking the laws of physics is great and totally groovy, while some other way is bad and totally illogical. That argument doesn't fly.

That raises the question how the Nomads and the Prethoryn are supposed to travel intergalactic distances if there's no hyperlanes connecting galaxies... ;)

Its a pitty though. It would definitely spice things up if the Prethoryn weren't restricted in Cherryh and could just bypass the potential chokepoints of hyperlane exits.

Unless, of course, they have tech nobody else has and they use some Galactic Hyperlane, same as hyperlanes between stars except between Galaxies.

this however is simply incorrect.

No bugfixes, no new DLC, no new mods , no new anything that will require the new code.

right that is your descisio as a customer to forgo the upcoming patches and retain the use of older versions. Developers are allowed to stop supporting content in future patches, this happens all over software.

I couldn't read all of this forum due to the massive salt headache I started getting so I apologize for asking something that is probably asked already.

I know we will start with hyperlanes now when the new patch comes out but will we be able to research things like warp ,wormholes, or even jumpdrives so that we can unrestrict ourselves from these predetermined paths? And if we can how far along the tech tree are they?

nah. No other types of ftl available. There will be something like jump drives, but not like their previous incarnations.

well you can build gateways as a late-game tech. but gates cannot be used offensively.

So basicly Stellaris is becoming a slightly better version of Endless Space..........FML

Better how?

Don't get me wrong they are both great games but I personally like Stellaris better, or I did, mainly because of the different FTLs. I've never liked being restricted by hyperlanes but it seems we all will be forced to do so next patch.

Yeah, but right now ES2 have less micro, more ftl, better alien nations and I would guess better fleet combat.

I dont know about better fleet combat, Stellaris is admittedly pretty terrible but fleet combat in ES2 is just another "sit there and watch it" joke. Its not exactly clash of the titans with those two when it comes to combat.

I dont know about better fleet combat, Stellaris is admittedly pretty terrible but fleet combat in ES2 is just another "sit there and watch it" joke. Its not exactly clash of the titans with those two when it comes to combat.
Tur, but that puts both game at roughly the same level of Control, and soon stellaris will have hardcspped fleets

So basicly Stellaris is becoming a slightly better version of Endless Space..........FML

You also have wormholes as natural path that leads you to other places in the galaxy. You cannot create them but once you research the tech, you can use them.

Not sure about the Jump Gate not used offensively.

Since Endless Space is turn based, I do not believe this is a correct analogy.

Jump drive same as before but is supposed to be reverse engineer from someone who has it (fallen empire or other AI or unbidden crisis). But it has been changed to have a serious combat debuff that last for a bit otherwise as close as you can get to warp FTL.

Wormhole is splited into two different kinds. Natural wormhole which is where there is a static linked solar systems. You can unlock this in mid-game and open up a shortcut. Artifact wormhole station can be build anywhere and grant you access to any other friendly artifact wormhole station. It doesn't let you move toward hostile territory and you still need to use hyperlane for that.
