Thus, the reign of Ragnarr II ended with the reconquest of Scandinavia. Quite an incredible feat considering that he began his rule with very little. Abandoning the old ways might be frowned upon but he left behind a great legacy few could rival in the future. Many might wonder what awaits Ragnarr III with such a large realm and many discontented vassals.
Things happened very fast for Ragnarr III, as just a few months ago his father Karl was the heir of the empire, but due to his sudden decision to join the Knights of Calatrava, Ragnarr III found himself Emperor with Ragnarr II's death.
August 9, 1201
The first act of Ragnarr III's reign would see the passing of Free Investiture, reducing the power of the church in Scandinavia. However with the public distracted by the law change, Ragnarr III was able to increase his efforts on assassinating his mother, the Queen of Pomerania. A few months later everything was in order allowing a carriage carrying the Queen to fly off a cliff. Unfourtently the driver of the Carriage survived and soon revelled the whole plot. It was worth it in the end though for Ragnarr III still ended up inheriting the entire Kingdom of Pomerania.
With this inheritance, the only parts of Scandanvia remaining separate from Ragnarr's rule was the few English holdings in Sweden, Jyyland and Olafborg. Although Ragnarr planned on ousting the English eventually, he decided to take the county of Akershus for himself in the hopes that he could protect the independence of Olafborg, as he felt it would do the realm good to have a refuge for the remaining Germanic populace.

With Ragnarr re-establishing the theocracy in Sjaelland by putting his kinsman in charge of the temple and duchy, house Mäkelä soon found itself in a good position to have a member serve as a pope.
With the Mäkelä dynasty slowly converting away from the Germanic, and Suomenusko faiths. Ragnarr figured it was time to replace the ancient Dragon representing the house. To do this Ragnarr switched out the Red Dragon to a White bird holding a bloodied sword, although Ragnarr knew many in his house would not switch over, this design soon became the standard for the Christian Mäkelä's.
February 7, 1203
With the Pope hearing about how the Fylkir was the duke of Iceland, he soon came to Ragnarr requesting that he imprison his "heathen" Vassal. Not wanting to cause trouble in his realm Ragnarr III refused the pope's demand. Thankfully that pope didn't live much longer and when he died he was soon replaced by Karl Mäkelä who had adopted the name of Lando III.
March 25, 1205
With Ragnarr III's vassals becoming harder to control, Ragnarr soon re-introduced the Viceroy system to the Empire. With this Ragnarr was able to find loyal members within Finland, Norway, and Pomerania and grant them the Viceroyalty for their lifetime, largely stabilizing the realm.
March 8, 1205
On this day Ragnarr's first legitimate soon Eirc was born along with his twin sister Inga.
The early stages of Ragnarr's reign has been surprisingly peaceful except for a few small events. The realm is slowly stabilizing so there shouldn't be too much internal problems for the next few decades.

Although Ragnarr III had not spoken to his father, Karl since he left to join the knights of Calatrava, when news arrived that Karl had risen to become Grand Master of the order Ragnarr was happy for him despite the fact that he acted more Castilian then Swedish now. One year later Pope Lando III, called a crusade for Andalusia likely due to the family relationship between Karl and him.
June 13, 1210
Not wanting to let his father or kinsman face the Muslims alone, Ragnarr III sent word that he would join the Crusade. Shortly after 10,000 Northern Warriors arrived in Southern Iberia. After seeing burning fields and villages of Southern Iberia Ragnarr vowed he would not let religious differences separate his realm.
May 29, 1211
With the Muslim armies defeated and more Christian knights flooding into Andalusia, Ragnarr III decided to recall his forces home. Once his armies arrived home he used the claims that he had been working his entire reign to acquire to declare war for all of English Sweden.
Soon after the war started the English began to send wave after wave of men to their island of Oland, however unable to support their full army on the island they would send sections to the Scandinavian Defenders stationed in Möre. Because of this a total of four battles happened in around the city of Kalmar each resulting in a Scandinavian victory. With the English invasion forces wiped out and the inland English holdings falling the King of England soon surrendered, ceding Tjust, Hälsingland, Viken and Oland to Ragnarr. Out of these Ragnarr kept Viken for himself.
April 6, 1212
With more land coming directly under the care of the Emperor Ragnarr III increased the centralization of the realm to a higher then average level. News arrived from the Holy Roman Empire that a new merchant republic has formed in Holstein, in order to slow down and eventually overtake Gotland's and Orkneys expansion in the Baltic and North Sea. This Republic has been named the Hanseatic league.
May 12, 1213
Believing that Ragnarr was still actively helping out in the Crusade, the Heretic King of Hungary, Bulgaria and Poland declared war a Holy war for part of de-jure Poland that the Viceroy of Pomerania held. Immediately Ragnarr began gathering his forces in Pomerania, and with the Crusade ending in Andalusia he was able to call in the Pope to help defend him as well. By June 23, 33,000 Scandinavians stood ready to march against Hungary.
With Ragnarr's host soon coming across the 23,800 strong Hungarian host they knew the war would likely be over soon after the battle. With the Scandinavians flanks quickly forcing the Hungarian flanks to retreat the battle was soon over, with 18,900 Hungarians laying were they fell. Encouraged by the recent defeat of the main Hungarian force, the Polish vassals revolted to reclaim the Polish throne for themselves.
January 2, 1215
Wanting to dismantle the Hungarian Empire, Ragnarr stayed in the war despite the recent entrance of the Byzantine Empire on the Hungarian side. As although he knew he could not outright win against the Byzantines he hoped that he would be able to keep the Hungarians away from the Polish revolt long enough for it to succeed. Shortly after the Bohemians offered to join Ragnarr's side.
Despite the ongoing war merchants that had been travelling from the East have begun telling troubling tells of a Great Khan who has begun a great conquest heading West.
August 30, 1216
With a host of 25,000 well trained Byzantine soldiers landing in Northern Pomerania, Ragnarr III ordered his besieging armies in Hungary to gather together and march North. When they got there despite only numbering 21,000 the attack order was given. During a charge on the Scandinavian lines, Ragnarr soon found himself face to face with Romanos of Syrallum. Before Ragnarr even has a chance to retreat Romanos is upon him striking faster then Ragnarr can defend, moments later Ragnarr is lying dead as battle rages around him.
News travels quick for shortly later, Eric a child of 9 is soon crowned Emperor.
Sorry about the lack of updates this week, but I had quite a busy week at school and didn't have much time to write anything.
Just when everything was going so well, the unexpected happened. The rise of the new emperor is rather interesting since the pretenders are all young themselves. A storm is brewing over Scandinavia and we can only hope it's over before the Mongols arrive. Internal struggles and a foreign invasion cannot bode well for Scandinavia.

Although young, Eric knew, that he was losing the war, for every were he went if the people were in any position at all you could hear them mumbling about Eric's fathers insistence to continue to war despite having an absolute victory, just to allow to poles to have a chance at independence. The day that Eric was told that Ragnarr III died in battle, and that he was know emperor would cause him to do everything in his power to fulfill his father's goal.
April 10, 1217
Although another Scandinavian host was marching South to reinforce the retreating host, it would turn out not needed. As be the Byzantines can attack again the king of Hungary dies, ending the war. Despite this allowing the Hungarians to focus on their rebels now, it wouldn't be enough as two months later Poland once more is lead by a Piast.
Eight days later reports from East arrive warning of a massive barbarian horde called the Ilkhanate in arriving in Khiva. Despite this land being secured by the Seljuk Empire the Horde quickly defeats the Turks and gains a foothold in the civilized world.
July 1, 1217
It would appear that Ragnarr's plan worked after all, for the Empire of Hungary had crumpled. As shortly after the Polish revolt ended another began in Bulgaria, still weakened by the recent war Bulgaria as well as the remaining two Polish vassals soon found independence.
March 8, 1223
As a peasant revolt is crushed in Varand, Eric and his twin sister Inge become of age. Finally having complete independence to do as he likes, Eric decided that he would try to re-establish the trade roots in Västergötland. After that he began looking for potential marriages and despite his father's war with her father Eric was able to marry Romane Makedon, the Empress of the Byzantine Empire.
June 1, 1223
With their being a good chance to one day unite the Scandinavian and Byzantine Empire, Eric begins to prepare for war against the Holy Roman Empire in the hopes of recovering Schleswig. With both the Pope and the Byzantine Empire backing Eric, he knew that the Kaiser would have a tough time defending. However it soon came to the intention that Romane had the child of another man, outraged Eric began plotting to arrange some accidents for her suspected lovers.
The Mongols have arrived. Eric appear quite promising and secures a strong alliance with his marriage. Attempting some "accident" would be interesting for someone with low intrigue though.
Scandinavia-Byzantium is a good thing to have in these Scourge infested times! I was close to get such a result in my own Scandinavia game, but it was not to be.

With a force of 24,600 Scandinavian and Papal Warriors sieging Lubeck, and more Scandinavians heading to reinforce with the Byzantines March North, the Kaiser makes a hasty decision to attack over the river into Lubeck with his 28,800 instead of waiting for his own reinforcements. As the battle commences the the Scandinavian force's lead by Pope Lando III manage to hold their ground against the Germans. However about half way through the battle the German Kaiser himself charges towards were Lando III is giving orders to his flank, and cuts him down almost instantly.
With Lando dead the right flank soon falls allowing the Germans to push into the sides of the Center forcing the Scandinavians to retreat to Slesvig were they will regroup with the second Scandinavian host and the Byzantines landing nearby.
January 29, 1225
With Eric leading the host in Slesvig, it comes as a shock to him when his wife sends message of her pregnancy. Suspicious of her since her first child was born, Eric hires a maid to spy on Romane to see if they can find out the truth about this pregnancy. With the maid not finding anything Eric decides that he simply needs more people watching Romane, this time the maid found out that the real father is just a low-born mayor in the Byzantine Empire.
March 10, 1225
Before Eric can react to the news one of his scouts spots a force of 17,800 Germans travelling through Holstein. Wanting to make up for the loss at Lubeck, the entirety of Erics host totalling around 30,000 men, made up of both Scandinavians and two merc bands heads south were they quickly slaughter 16,600 of the Germans. After the battle is over Eric starts seeking others for help to arrange Ioustinos's death, luckily for Eric it would appear that Ioustinos was not a very popular person in the Greek realm, for shortly after the plot is started Ioustinos is dead.
February 13, 1226
With 10,500 Germans being spotted nearby were Eric's host was they quickly engage each other. During the battle Eric manages to spot Kaiser Dietwin, and after remembering hearing how Dietwin cut down Lando III he quickly charges him directly cutting down the nearby bodyguards. As the two begin to fight Dietwin tries to strike at Eric's arm but Eric quickly parries the attack and manages to stab Dietwin through the heart. With the Kaiser dead the Germans soon surrender for the throne passed into Dietwin's son who had only seen 2 years.
Does avenging the killer of the previous Pope give you relations boost with the new Pope?
As for the mayor, he will hopefully be an example to all those who dare to seduce the empress of Scandinavia. I'm just surprised that Eric and his wife haven't gotten into a huge fight yet.
Slaying the Kaiser brought a swift victory for Scandinavia. However, I fear this might forever create a divided between the two realms. Let's hope the Germans won't strike while Scandinavia is busy fending off the hordes.

As far as I know it doesn't give any relationship bonus. (be cool if it did though)
As for the relations between the Queen and Eric they are surprisingly still positive despite the recent events between them. I'am still surprised that I was even able to marry the two without her demanding it be maternal, especially since both of their fathers fought against each other in Hungary.
It certainly hasn't improved relations between the Empires.
Due to the bandwidth usage being maxed out on my photo bucket account, I will not be posting any updates until the March 14, 2015 (when the bandwidth gets reset) or until I find a photo sharing site (that won't cost anything) that could replace it. Any suggestions for such a site are welcomed, but please just pm them to me instead of posting them here.
Update: I'am now using Imgur for my future pictures, however I am afraid there is not much I can do for the majority of the older pictures
With peace settling over the realm Ashi, who was Eric's Jewish Steward came up with a plan to bring trade back to the Empire now that the, Germans were forbidden to partake in any business. Interested in the idea and having enough gold built up, Eric purchased the best ship he could find, and allowed some priests onboard.
June 29, 1226
Finally the expedition arrived far in the Russian North, were the last remnants of the Suomenusko church took refuge after being forced out of Finland and Estonia. After a few days a deal is finally made with High Priest Valta, however before Eric leaves he hears some of his priests arguing with the Suomenuskos about faith. Knowing that the deal was sealed Eric decides to leave them to it. This act seems to have enraged Valta for just a few days after arriving home, a Great Suomenusko Holy War is called for Finland. Knowing that the Suomenuskos had little true strength remaining Eric only raised his Vassals within Finland.
September 27, 1226
Determined to be remembered long after his death, Eric instructed his minters to make a new gold coin which would have his face engraved on one side. Although having the opportunity to debase the coins and save some money, Eric decided not to wanting only the most valuable coins to represent him. Shortly after a true-born daughter was born in the purple which he named Linda who may one day inherit both the Scandinavian and Byzantium Empires. In order to do this Eric began to change the inheritance laws of Scandinavia to Agnatic-Cognatic.
Due to me using Imgur now to upload pictures this update is quite a bit shorter. This is so I could see how the pictures would turn out, if everything goes well a larger update should hopefully come out tomorrow.
