Ouch, what a huge revolt! Good the Germans were pushed back though. Redeclaration of war to get lost lands back next, or what? Strike when they're weak...

That was a dreadful uprising. It's a good thing the Kaiser didn't declare war then because you would unlikely have an answer. That England is terrifying as well. These wars must be hitting your nation hard. Maybe a decade of peace to fully recover?

Yeah if the Kaiser declared war then I would of likely needed to give in to his demands. As for peace, Inge has one little dispute left before that can happen.

Would like to but my forces need to recover as well and pretty sure the Germans still had at least 10000 hiding somewhere, for they had managed to raise 20000 in the previous War against them. Any ways my goal right now isn't South but East.

The Northern Crusade

November 26, 1087

As Inge began listing to the countless complaints and questions of the peasants at court, Tribal Elder Anund suddenly burst in demanding that he should be crowned king. Although Inge enjoyed the idea of having Anund executed on the spot, he gave him time to explain himself for he was a Mäkelä. Anund not knowing how close he had come to death quickly claimed that the title of King should pass to whoever lives in the Mäkelä Estate. Hearing this Inge just started laughing, causing Anund to challenge Inge to holmgang.

Inges%20family%20duel_zps9jsz9o64.jpg

Having no choice due to Anund challenging him in front of the court, Inge accepts and a week later the two meet. With Anund having seen 59 winters Inge offered him the chance to stand down, however despite his age Anund wouldn't listen saying that he served in the Varangian Guard for 15 years. Angered by Anund arrogance Inge quickly strikes him smashing his shield to bits. Anund tries to put up his defensives and manages to cut Inge, however seeing his own blood Inge quickly gives into the berserker rage ending Anund.

Wanting to expand his influence in Rus, Inge declares a holy war for Moskva, seeing the Germanics advancing through their land the Orthodox peasants rally to try and protect their brethren from the same faith they are suffering. The 2300 Orthodox rebels are soon crushed having only temporary postponed Moskva from joining Sweden.

News from the Muslim world arrived claiming that a group of Assassins has been able to capture the mountain fortress of Alamut. Meanwhile according to raiders in France the Capets had proclaimed themselves Emperors.

Today the entire Germanic realm and faith will be tested, for Pope John IX has called a Crusade for Sweden. Shortly after, the combined forces of the Catholics land on the shores of Halland were they are soon greeted by 16000 Swedes. As the battle begins reinforcements from both sides arriving bringing the Swedish numbers to 18500 and the Catholics numbers to 15500. A few days later the battle ends in a Swedish victory.

With the enemy retreating towards Västergötland to regroup with another landing party, the Swedish host gives chase. As they arrive they are greeted by 14500 zealous Catholics, who once again suffer a devastating defeat. However instead of fully retreating the Catholics simply gather more men and push back into Västergötland, this time they bring 12700 men who as with the other battles are quickly defeated. Only after does Inge realize that he had been strucked by an arrow.

Having captured Duke Heahberht of Northumberland and Duke Airfhinnàn of Mumu in the recent battles, Inge orders there execution hoping that there heirs wouldn't answer the popes cries so zealously. Luckily Inge suspicion were right causing two combatants to abandon the crusade.

With the Catholics attention being drawn North and the Sunni's being pushed back by the Shias the Hashshasin's are able to easily spread to Syria. A year later the Pope gives up the Crusade.

Inge Epilouge

With the Catholics defeated, Celebration spread throughout the Germanic world. With many people begging to Call Inge the "Sword of Odin". In order to take part in the Celebrations himself and honour Inge ordered the construction of a new Castle in Västergötland and renamed the city of Gälakvist to Torsvik. Thanks to Nikolai for the name

June, 20 1102

Finally the Castle was complete, eventually after much thought Inge went with the architects suggestion of calling it Lödöse. About a year later the Orthodox peasants in Rus once again tried to become independent by revolting. Although they would be swiftly crushed in the coming months, another peasant revolt separate to the Orthodox one rose in Västisland, Island. This revolt would never have to fear meeting the "Sword of Odin" in the field for Inge passed away at the age of 48, on December 8, 1104.

Winning the crusade must be a massive victory for Sweden. King Ragnarr will be ruling over a large realm but the pretenders could pose a threat. Maybe eliminate or pacify the internal threats first before showing the Christians the might of Sweden?

Would try to culture change back to norse but not sure if possible (with out console commands), for the few remaining courtiers that are Norse have traits that I am pretty sure makes it impossible for them to convert their wards. (like sloth)

Also even if I did find a way not sure if the realm would hold together, as already I have the: Finns, Lapps, Danes, Norwegians and now Russians each plotting revolts and such. So if I converted to Norse could almost certainly add the Swedes to that list, and without my powerbase loyal I fear the Kingdom would crash and burn. Still could try if I find a way though. :)

Pacifying would likely be the easiest route, and then their would be no chance for a nasty kinslayer trait but you never know. As for the Christian's they will learn to fear the Wrath of the Old Gods in time, however Ragnarr has some unfinished business left to him by a deceased relative first.

A Forgotten Promise

With his father's death Ragnarr, was forced to stop organizing Lackö's Record room, and take up command of the army that had gathered to sail to Island. Once they arrived the revolt was quickly crushed, and the rebellion leaders rounded up, and executed. As Ragnarr was preparing to sail back to the mainland, a frantic messanger arrived, with a note demanding that Ragnarr recognized the independence of the faction, which included much of Finland and Rus.

November 13, 1105

By this time Ragnarr had arrived and joined up with the remaining loyalists on the mainland, forming a host 11300 strong. The first major battle took place near the sacred grove of Raviola, hear 4500 Finnish defenders would fall to the advancing Swedish host. Raviola is also were Ragnarr took a great interest in stories other then just Epics, and accounts of Vikings from the past. For here Ragnarr found a long forgotten promise from the Mäkelä dynasty, saying that as long as a Mäkelä ruled the land, the Finns culture, and faith would be respected. With this Ragnarr declared that after the realm had settled they would march east, uniting all the Finnish people much like his ancestors united all of Scandinavia.

March 1, 1106

As a group of 10000 separatists warriors began to rot in the forests of Kexholm, another revolt began. Once again the peasents of Västisland had risen up in order to get their independence. Annoyed by this but not worried Ragnarr proceeded into Rus, were one final battle would be fought between him and the remains of the separatist movement. Eventually Ragnarr ordering his personal guards to follow him charged into the heart of the enemy lines, forcing them to scatter. With this defeat the 6th independence movement was put to an end.

6th%20indi%20war%20ovr_zpsch3vx9vx.jpg

Although Ragnarr thought about sending men once again to Island to crush the rebellion, he eventually decided to let the peasants win for now as his spies reported a large level of unrest even amongst those not directly involved with the rebellion. Suggesting that their would be long term civil war between the various groups of peasents for quite some time. In total their would be three separate rulers within a year to rule from Västisland.

December 9, 1107

Wanting to further increase his knowledge of the world, Ragnarr ordered the construction of an observatory near Lackö. A few years later it was complete and Ragnarr began studying the stars trying to figure out how they move, and if Asgard was truly up there. Ragnarr became so fascinated that he almost missed his son Tyke's birth. Although the many nights spent looking up may not of been for nothing for Ragnarr started seeing patterns in were the stars appeared.

June 2, 1109

Eventually Ragnarr pulled his head out of the sky, and made due of his promise to march East against the Kingdom of Perm in a Great Holy War.

GHW%20perm_zps26uf5e7f.jpg

However due to Ragnarrs belief that his generals would have no problem dealing with the Permish hosts, he decided to retreat back into his observatory. This caused his brother Bagge, to confront Ragnarr about his obsession in the stars, not persuaded Ragnarr shoved Bagge's complaints aside and continued on with his work. Eventually after a few more years of observing various patterns in the skies, Ragnarr thinks he has solved it. However knowing that his discoveries could shake up many peoples faith Ragnarr decides to continue his work in secret, which unfortunately means spending more time away from the Observatory.

With the Generals of the army not being able to easily advance into perm without suffering major losses when winter came around, they commanded a small force of 2800 men to skirt around the Southern border of perm and then put siege to the Permish Capital, were they had heard reports that the boy-king was studying. When the Swedes finally broke through, the doors to Perym, they were able to quickly take the boy-king prisoner, forcing his Chieftains to surrender.

August 19 , 1112

With all the Suomenusko holy sites now in Ragnarrs land, he gave the remaining temples to the priest in Saaremaa, who quickly took the opportunity to follow Bagge's I example and reformed the Suomenusko faith.

Suo%20reformed_zpsz7q7o5jq.jpg

Fearing that the size and diversity of the Swedish realm had grown too large, Ragnarr made one of the hardest choices of his life. In which he divided the realm giving the kingdom of Rus to his brother Bo, and the Kingdom of Perm to Hintsa Harviala a member of the major Finnish Cadet branch of Mäkelä. Next Ragnarr gave independence to any remaining lords/jarls/chieftains outside of what most people of the time would consider Scandinavia. Despite some of his vassals fears that this left the realm weak, Ragnarr thought that these drastic moves would help lower the size of Independence revolts.

Glad Ragnarr is thinking ahead. An overextended realm could be problematic for his successors. Still, Sweden isn't a nation others dare to underestimate.

Birth of an Empire

March 20, 1113

While walking around the grounds of Lackö, Ragnarr notices that the door to a longhouse has been left open. Curious he draws his dagger and slowly walks in to check if anyone was inside, just as he was about to leave he hears a faint whisper and a old crone appears from one of the corners. Before Ragnarr can act she claims that she is a völva, and that she has come to warn Ragnarr of a dark storm brewing, threating to wipe the Mäkelä dynasty out of Scandinavia. When the völva is asked for more details she explains that she isn't fully certain what this storm contains.

Putting the völva's warning aside, Ragnarr sends a letter to the Jarl Orkney asking him to swear fealty to Ragnarr in exchange for protection from the Catholics. A few days later the Jarl's reply arrived saying that he agrees to the terms. On November 23, 1113 Ragnarr set sail with a small amount of Warriors to return Vestisland to Sweden.

The German Empire had once again declared war for Jylland. With around 30,000 Germans sieging in and around Jylland, Ragnarr called in his allies hoping that if the Germans tried to go around and through Finland the King of Rus would cut them off, which would allow for the entire Swedish host to focus on the Germans in Denmark.

March 9, 1115

In order to keep his son Tyke safe, Ragnarr decided to send him off to the Varangian guard for his education. With only 9000 Germans being sighted still sieging around Jylland, Ragnarr gave the command for his host of 29,800 to attack, almost wiping out the Germans and allowing them to capture the German anti-pope.

A second battle in Jylland happened a few months later for 23,000 Germans decided to land behind the Swedish host, this turned out a costly mistake for them as the Swedish host had not gone far and was able to quickly engage the Germans killing thousands.

The final battle of the war the Kaiser took part in himself, however it did not change the outcome for by the end of it another 10,000 Germans laid dead or dyeing, many at the hands of Ragnarr himself. With this defeat the Kaiser was forced to surrender, paying almost a thousand pieces of gold coins in reparations.

We'll have to wait and see. Also glad your enjoying the AAR, always good to hear feedback.

Thanks :)

Hope Gloth comes back Norse as planned ;)
Will also need to hope he doesn't convert to Orthodox, as those were the only ones "capable
of switching Tyke to Norse.

The Fall of Rus

December 8, 1117

With the merchants in Gotland, becoming quite powerful, Ragnarr was afraid that they could eventually challenge his claim to the throne, for they did have many Mäkelä members amongst them, often times in charge of the whole Merchant Village. To counter this and provide more money to the empires treasury, Ragnarr revoked the county of Hjaltland. After sending a few hundred warriors to "relieve" the Chief of his position Ragnarr gave the land and the Jarldom of Orkney to the Village Elder.

Despite news about another Christian holy order forming, this one calling itself the Knights Templar. Ragnarr declared a holy war for Obotritia against the Kingdom of Pomerania. As the Pomeranians had done in the past they sent a large force to land on the shores of Sweden, as just like before they were wiped out by the Swedish host.

This time though instead of landing on the smaller island, the Swedish host landed directly on the mainland, forcing the Pomeranians to attack them sooner. As the 14,000 strong Swedish force began to siege a host of 16,000 Pomeranians began to attack. However the Swedes were able to hold out only losing 3000, while only 4000 Pomeranians got away. With the battle virtually crushing any chance of a Pomeranian victory, Queen Dagmar surrendered.

With the recent victory many of the peasants began referring to Ragnarr as the "Sword of Frey". With a foothold into mainland Europa, established Ragnarr began to administer the Empire, one of the first laws to be put into effect was a Viceroyalty system. Using this new system Ragnarr assigned Jarl Seppo II the Viceroyalty of Finland, and Jarl Gandalfr II the Viceroyalty of Norway.

With no concerns of a major Rebellion, Ragnarr took a much more relaxed approach to his rule, taking Concubines and trying to seduce even more woman. That is until Ragnarr's wife Rikissa confronted him about his affair with the Queen of Rus, refusing to admit anything Rikissa challenged Holmfrid (the Queen of Rus) who quickly admitted the whole affair.

September 3, 1122

Horrible news arrived, today from Rus. According to the letter received Ragnarr's brother king Bo died under rather suspicious circumstances, leaving the entire kingdom to his young child. Only a few months later another letter arrived this one from the Chancellor of Rus pleading Ragnarr to send help for practically the whole country was revolting against them. As Ragnarr was preparing to go raiding in the Mediterranean he refused the request of help. This would prove to allow the rebels victory, shattering the realm of Rus.

14,000 Germanic raiders stood outside the walls of Constantinople, although Ragnarr knew that the siege could take a few years he was determined to get the riches stored within the walls. One year into the siege news arrived that the Suomenusko's had formed a holy order of their own called the Sons of Kaleva. A few months later the walls were breached and the raiders stormed inside. During this 16 members of the Makedon dynasty were slaughtered, along with many others including the Byzantine emperor's wife. This lead to a host of 15,000 Greeks being raised forcing the raiders to leave before planned.

Tyke had returned home however despite him knowing the ancient Norse tongue, he followed the same path as the Greeks and Russians. Once Tyke found out that he would not be considered a heir to the Fylkirate, he quickly converted to follow Odin.

Sorry about the extra updates this weekend, hope its not to much.
