To Break the Binds
Although Henrik would never remember the day of his father's death, he was always told that his father died trying to return to him. Although Henrik was unsure weather to believe his counselors or not, he would eventually learn that his father did in fact perish in the last battle of the war.

When the Marshal abandoned Lackö a dark feeling began to creep over the castle, for their were many rumours of him plotting with the other Viceroys to leave the Empire. These fears would turn out true when a few days later, the Vicereine of Trebizond as well as the the Viceroys of Pomerania, and Epirus declared independence. This wouldn't be the end of Scandinavia's troubles however for a few months later Ebbon declared his invasion of the Aegean Islands, which would quickly be replaced by the revolt of the Viceroys of Nikaea and Thessalonika.

Although the initial battles were won by Henrik's Retinue they had taken a beating and with little reinforcements from the loyal vassals, Henrik feared the worst. Eventually 9000 Greeks landed outside of Lackö prompting the Retinue to respond, although the battle was eventually won the 18,500 strong retinue had dwindled to 13,300. This would prove fatal for that host, as before they could even be reinforced 20,000 Pomeranians attacked killing all but 2400.
Perhaps finally seeing the threat to the Empire the remaining viceroys offered up a sizable amount of levis that would soon join the Varangian and Retinue to form a host of 14,000. These reinforcements would eventually allow the Empire to win the of Varberg, in which they were attacked by 15,600 Pomeranians but due to far superior generals the Scandinavians managed to hold ground only losing 2750 warriors compared to the Pomeranians 12,600.
Sadly it would not prove to be enough, for with the walls of Constantinople under siege and a host of 31,000 separatist marching towards Lackö Henrik was forced to decide weather to flee into the countryside or stay within the walls, eventually he ordered that him and his family would be safest inside of Lackö. Before any one could convince him otherwise battle erupted in-between Lödöse and Lackö.
With the attackers coming from the sea the host which had been recovering in Västergötland could not escape, and although a host of 7000 reinforcements would of been able to arrive in time they were ordered not to, for the Generals could see that the battle was already lost. Despite not participating in the battle the separatist host soon caught up with the 7000 slaughtering every last living creature that comprised it.
