Frozen army

As France, I was allied with Aragon in a war against England and Portugal. Portugal kept besieging Aragon provinces, and I kept smashing the Portuguese armies. Eventually Aragon made a separate peace.

my army in Aragon became stuck. My alliance ended when they went to peace. I can't move the army anywhere now; not to an adjacent Aragon province, or even back to France.

War funding has been full, and morale for the army is max.

Why can't I go home?

Do they have a little black flag next to them? That means they're Exiled. Normally you can move Exiled troops back home, even through countries with whom you don't have MA. Not sure why that's not working here.

Have you tried asking Aragon for Military Access?

If you have tried and that still doesn't work, then are they in an inland province, or a coastal? If a coastal province, bring some transport ships into the adjacent sea province, and then right-click move the units into the sea; they will load up onto the transport.

If none of that works, can you provide a screenshot? And also try save/reloading, if you haven't already.

But I'm guessing you simply don't have Military Access, and that will sort it. (though it's still odd that they didn't behave like normal exiled troops, allowing you to traverse any territory to get them back to France.)

They are not exiled. Aragon just gave up treaties with me, so no Military Access for 5 years. It is coastal, but I have no cogs.

Ah OK, well no screenshot necessary. That answered the question. The treaty cancelled the MA and the Alliance, and you weren't exiled, hence you are, indeed, stuck.

That's a rather nice little trick, actually! I must remember that for use against the AI.

Your options are:

1. Build some cogs (seriously, don't you need/want them anyway?) If you're really tight, you could just build a couple and move the troops out a couple at a time, in a shuttle service type thing;
2. Disband the unit to save maintenance, but have to pay to re-create them;
3. Wait five years.

Oh, OK. At that point they became exiled? OK I suppose that makes sense then!
