Episode 1 - The Phantom Carib
Well, I was going to come in here and declare that the AAR dead, but the fact that not one, but two readers gave an update request has caused me to tear myself away from HoI 3 for a minute (and give up my plans for an Isreal AAR over there I might add) and actually churn out an update. So, without further ado, let us begin.
The Carib Empire as it appears on January 1st on the year 1000
On the date 1/1/1000 AD, races of people all across the world began to settle down and begin the process of becoming an agriculture based society instead of one consisting of hunting and gathering. One such race was that of the Carib's, a race of people from all over the world who had somehow or another ended up living in what history would call the Carribean islands, most likely named after the first king of the Carib's - Carib. As you can tell, Carib was by no means a humble man.
His kingdom, however, was.
The Carib's, being a relatively new civilization, had little knowledge of the world across their borders. All they knew of were a large mass of islands in the middle of a sea, and two larger, possibly connected, landmasses where mighty civilizations lay dormant. Using this knowledge, Carib called all the great minds of the kingdom to his castle on St. Kitts, and they set out to create a map detailing what the Carribean would look like within the space of ten years.
Red indicates an area at high risk for enemy colonization, yellow indicates a medium risk, and blue indicates an area that the Caribs will be able to grab without interfearence. Any region outlined in the color of another country indicates a land that is considered a lost cause, and will have to be taken by force
This map struck fear into the heart of Carib. In this scenario, the Carib's would be a second rate power at best, and could be easilly smashed by the mighty Venezualians. Action would have the be immidiatly taken to prevent this occerance, and King Carib set out creating the "Carib Plan, or 5 steps to domination in an island chain".
The Carib Plan
1. Aggressive colonization. Take the enemy's prospective colonies away from him, leaving him stuck in his homeland. This will allow easy conquering of him later.
2. Colonies on a massive scale. You need to grab as much land as you can, as fast as you can, so that in about 30 or 40 years of initiating the plan you'll find yourself with a massive amount of land paying taxes.
3. Minimize the army. Your colonies are going to be a massive draw on your tresuary. To minimize the impact, keep the army small and cheap.
4. Maximize the navy. Your navy is your main defense force. As your conquering islands, a strong navy will keep foreign troops from ever reaching your shores.
5. Form alliances on the mainland. They arn't your enemies, and its good to have a finger in that pie, and potential vassels for later.
Carib immediatly set out putting his new plan in action. His first decree was to create a more effective method of training the military, so what the Carib's did have would count for more. This caused anger in the nobility - part of a greater quality army meant more power would be given to officers in the army, and less to the nobles. Their complaints, however, fell on deaf ears - now that the army could combat them, who cared?
Soon, Carib was presented with another pressing issue - his cabnit was calling for a new focus for the nation, as each was interpreting the carib plan to mean something else. They all seemed the get the general gist of it, but they all thought another part of it should be given prominance over the others. In the end, Carib went with his naval advisor - he proposed tax cuts on the construction of ships, which would make the construction of them cheaper, which would no doubt help with the inevitable question of money.
While Carib was making up his mind on a new path for the country, however, he did not sit idle in his office all day. He sent a small team of the most hardy Carib explorers to a large island near Haiti, to find out if the Haitians had attempted to form colonies there. To his surprise, he discovered that not only had then not found a colony, but had set one up themselves, calling the island Puerto Rico, as the leader of the expidition was named Rico and the ship was called
The Puerto. All members of the expidition were all awarded a new medal, which was named The Order of Carib, and given high ranking positions in the Caribbian military.
With the invention of a better type of canoe, Carib found that he could now reach an island south of St. Kitts that was dubbed Dominica, after the company that made the canoe. However, he needed to get people to be ready to go there - people were understandibly reluctant to leave their homes in St. Kitts and begin anew somewhere else. A series of ralleys were held to whip up insterest in colonial ventures, and they proved wildly successful. A group of new colonists were ready to depart for Dominica within a week, and the previously angry nobles were pleased with the result, as they saw a chance to use new resources in Dominica to expand their buisness, solving their previous issues with the crown.
The colonists arrived in Guatemala without much hassle, and a colony was quickly up and
running. But a colony was not enough to satisfy Carib. He saw Guatamala not as a new adventure
or a buisness opertunity - he saw it as a springboard for further colonization for the islands
near the mainland. He held more rallies, and using lessons learned from the last bunch, he
succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. 900 new colonists flooded to Guatamala, enough for it
to be considered an actual part of the Carib Republic, and among them were engineers who
constructed a fort in the province, making Guatamala into a stronghold from which the Caribs
could launch expiditions into the islands near the mainland.
In only two months, the effects of the ambitious Carib Plan can already be seen. The Carib's control more land than any other civilization in the region, and look to gain more quickly. As expected, the Haitians and the Taino are focusing on colonizing the islands of Haiti/Dominica and Cuba repectivilly. It is currently unknown at this time whether or not they will turn their attention to other colonization targets after this goal is completed. On the mainland, the Mojave have reached a critical Venezualian province that they would have used to springboard into the Carribean. Whether or not the Mojave will attempt to colonize there or continue on the mainland remains to be seen, but for now Carib has decided to lessen the odds of the islands near the mainland being colonized by rivals, and therefore place less of a focus on colonization down there.
Also pictured: Eastern Mexico, the Yucatan, Florida, and the Bahamas. It is expected that a Florida based civilization will colonize the Bahamas before the Carib's can reach it, and therefore it is given a level red priority for colonization
