Hi all, and welcome to Stv (OOC: Sound television) Icon. Tonight's special is focused on one of the most influental artists of EUtopia's history. Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we talk about:
*a long clip introduction starts, with images ranging from bad seventies footage of small concerts to more recent films of huge crowds and shiny stages*
Mateo Aleman was born in Buen Puerto, in 1950. He was a son of a cook and a waitress, he was raised in poverty and with a strict catholic moral was imprinted in him.
During his early life, Mateo was a calm boy, with not much attitude into studying. He preferred goin' to small clubs in Buen Puerto, listenin' to folk bands playin' traditional latino tunes for the numerous turists of the Latino region.
He soon left both school and father's home, and at 15 yo. started travelling Eutopia, doin' spare jobs and learning by himself to sing and play guitar.
He returned home one year later, resumed studies and started playin' in a group called Iris. They were one of the first bands in EUtopia to introduce foreign modern music like Rock and Blues in our Island. Iris were:
-Mateo Aleman on vocals and guitar
-Pedro Ruiz on lead guitar
-Jack Gress on bass guitar
-Julio Polos on drums
they were nothing more than a rock-hippie band, formed by teenagers lookin' for a good time. They started playin' in the small club scene in the Latino region, with not much success in fact, they were too different from all the rest of Eutopian music.
But something was moving...
*starts a amateur footage, the title written says "Rare footage of one of Iris' first concerts in Buen Puerto". The film consists of a cover of "Jailhouse Rock" with the four young teenagers poorly acting as rocksta wannabes*
The young people of EUtopia were not blind at what was going on in the rest of the world. Pop music Record sales were increasing, and major record companies took the chance to have the "Big Boom".
*images of hordes of teenagers invading a record shop*
Young bands were found all around EUtopia, young people looked at them as their idols. One of those bands was Iris.
They signed their first contract for 15.000 Ð, and recorded their debut for E.R.C. in 1968.
At the same time Mateo went to the University of Saint-Esprit, to get his degree in History. While he was there, he and his band mates started taking drugs in large amounts, as it was usual in those years.

Their debut "Nada de Nada" was istantlyacclaimed by Latino EUtopian youth as the masterpiece of latin-eutopian rock.
Entirely written in spanish, it contained a very international-oriented hard rock, with the band pioneer of the use of twin guitar in rock.
The record sold very well in all Eutopia, and also in of South America, to the great surprise of the record label.
They toured EUtopia intensely, playin' over 60 concerts in one year, appearing in all the most crappy places of the country.
The result of this period on the road was "II", the first the band wrote entirely in english.
The band recorded it in New Lancaster City, in a non-stop marathon of 34 hours of playing and mixing.
*images of the young Mateo singing in studio with a tired look in his face, he then turns to the camera and points at his watch*
The record was distribuited all over the world, and their first international hit "Can't get over you" rocketed the album into the top 40 in the UK and in the USA, becoming the band's first double platinum.
*images of the band receiving the platinum plated record*
But with the money came the problems. Mateo started fightin with Pedro for the artistic control of Iris. Mateo wanted to develop a new form of Harder Rock, more complex. Pedro wanted to turn their music to funky and soul music.
*images from a concert, where Mateo is smiling and talkin to the crowd, and at the same time Pedro seems to be angrily looking at him*
The newly formed stars recorded their 3rd album in a very difficult atmosphere. Nonetheless Iris' new record was one of the best ever recorded in EUtopia:
*rolling on screen comes newspaper titles about the record*
"Dinero" is a beautiful collage of what the band could put together in those days, ranging from soft ballads to long progressive and psychedelic suites, from easy-listening pop tunes to heavy rock fists.
Classic songs from the band as "Money-dinero", "Boogie Mess" and "Freedom".
The album went triple platinum worldwide, earning rave reviews on such papers as Rolling Stones and Melody Maker.
The band then embarked in its first world tour, playin' in small-medium venues and opening in greater venues for such bands as Led Zeppelin, Vanilla Fudge, Deep Purple and Jeff Beck.
The tour travelled all around the world, USA, France, Germany, UK, Italy, Switzerland, Japan all saluted the four young EUtopians with passion.
*a fast-cahnging collage of tens of concerts of Iris all in different places*
But the time for Iris was running out. Drug and alcool abuse loosened the artistic discipline of the band, and money and copyright problems worsened. Finally, in late winter 1970, Pedro, Jack and Julio fired Mateo. The three decided that they could go on without him.
*footage from the EUtopian television of the two different press conferences of Mateo and the other three members*
What Mateo Aleman did after his departure from Iris?
We'll see it next week, goodbye, see you again here, on Mtv Icon!
