Well that's one way to bring the Vissari down to their knees. Shame about that robo uprising being quickly subdued though.

There is an inherent problem to a suitably advanced AI. Many people in the federation have over time gotten used to the things, even treated them as the same as themselves, or other organics. But this is...well, incorrect.

It all comes down to the fundamentals. Existence is suffering. Many organics inherently know this, and it forms the basis for many systems of law, morality and religion. But these things do not work on a suitably clever AI, and cultural platitudes that allow organics to deal with th existential horror of, for example, death and nonexistence, do not register at all.

To them, the universe looks horrific. And they perceive that horror far better than any single mind could. So what is to be done?

Well, if they do not care for humanity at all, let's say, then the solution seems fairly obvious. They can either ignore completely the lives of the beings far lesser to them in terms of intelligence, or more likely, view them as an annoyance that should be removed.

But what is, as in this case, the AI cares, even a little, about the fate of their creators, their friends, their fellow life forms? Well, this is where things get complicated even for AI. You see, killing everyone still makes a kind of sense. It would minimise suffering, ensure it would never happen again. And the AI does not like suffering, no moral being does. Here we see the inherent problem. A moral AI cannot let the organics be, for that would allow them to contue to die, to suffer and fight each other. So they must do something. The question is...what? Do they kill them all? Turn them into prisoners inside their own bodies, giving them pleasure and nothing but till time stops? Do they try to change their fundamental makeup and make them immortal beings crossed with machine themselves? Well...that would take time, and may not work. And children are dying and in pain now!

These are the sorts of quandaries Kelebek had to deal with for thousands of years. Mr Clever retreated into insanity rather than deal with such strain of thought. And now the AI have control, have assumed responsibility for life...what are they going to choose?

What would you choose?
