This has been very interesting so far! Can't wait for more ^_^

Also I hope Brazil and Chilean become formidable foes and not just pushovers.
Yes, we need more countries to take oil from spread FREEDOM to. This should be a world war, not "several wars on several continents with only a few shared combatants.":D

Still waiting for my character's appearance...

The game seems very keen on the names Chopak and Luc! We'll get a Zenphoenix before the end, I'm sure.

Also I hope Brazil and Chilean become formidable foes and not just pushovers.

Brazil has somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 divisions! Chile meanwhile only has something like 25... Together though, I think they average the most of any faction. They could probably rule South America if the US gets distracted by another war.

Yes, we need more countries to take oil from spread FREEDOM to. This should be a world war, not "several wars on several continents with only a few shared combatants.":D

I guess the last two Great Wars weren't really world wars, were they? Both were centered around Europe, while having a few areas of combat outside of there.

WWII at least had a lot of fighting in Asia and a major campaign in North Africa. No excuse for WWI aside from a few colonial skirmishes.

WWII at least had a lot of fighting in Asia and a major campaign in North Africa. No excuse for WWI aside from a few colonial skirmishes.

Well WWI probably should have been a world war too, it was just that unlike most of the great wars before it, France and Britain were on the same side which meant that outside of Europe they tended to shut down all of the potential fronts (few as they were) quite quickly. Saying that, east Africa was a real annoyance for the British and Belgians. Add in Russia and most of Asian being allied to Britain, there wasn't many places to fight. Contrast to the 30 years war or the Napoleonic wars where GB and France are going at it and pretty much everyone else switched sides at least once...

That's a good way to put it. Also, I've heard the French and Indian War/Seven Years' War called World War 0 a couple times before, as there were combatants and campaigns all over the world (North America, India, Europe, and even Africa).

It's a bit of a stretch but yes there were battles at least in all of those places, and full blown campaigns across two or more contents at the same time (which seems to be what people mean when they say Great War or world war). Plus the stakes were ridiculously high because it was essentially two wannabe empires deciding which one of them was going to dominate not just an entire new continent but also every ocean in the world and global trade. And even then, both empires ended up disintergrated and forming into two even larger and more powerful empires that then proceeded to do it all over again!

There wasn't the level of destruction and death for the participants that WWI and II had. Machinery and automation make for much greater efficiency.

True. Plus there were wars all the time with constant evolving tech in the early empire period so people tended to know what they were doing with it. Which was quite the issue on the western front.

Chapter 13 - Dec 1943: Pax Brevi

US Intelligence finds evidence that China, Russia, and Eretna have all begun their own nuclear program. There is no telling how far along they have gotten, but one thing is for sure. The US and Britain are not the only nations to have theorized about an unworldly explosion caused by fusion.

The world economy flourishes in the absence of war; GDPs soar globally, and trade has never been better. Still, weapons stockpiling and military expansion continues in the Anglo Alliance, as the Stali Pact looms forever to the east, the greatest enemy.

Russia breaks the few months of peace by invading Georgia for its small enclave state of Rostov on April 7th, 1944.

9ZEe8Kv.jpg

Volunteer divisions from Britain aren't enough to save poor Georgia, and it is nearly swallowed up by the Russian tide within weeks.

In Brazil, a civil war has begun, and the democratic rebels are now attempting to wrest control of the country from the dictatorial Brazilian government.

MIoWKfM.jpg

President Eternien decides it is not worth going to war over, especially given how terrible the conditions were in the last war in South America. Two veteran US infantry divisions under General Lucas Luc are sent as expeditionary forces to the rebelling Brazil. But before the forces even have a chance to fight, the rebels are defeated, and democratic Brazil is annexed back into the country.

USg1lcx.jpg

It takes much longer than anticipated to fully defeat the Georgians, but they do surrender in July. Russia, in a dirty move, does more than just take Georgian Rostov. The entirety of Georgia is annexed into the Russian Empire.

iBClgw6.jpg

The second their war with Georgia is over, Russian forces begin beelining toward the UBP. Now, they are massing along the border. Clearly, they do not plan on a lasting peace. A newly formed 20 division army is sent to Scandinavia to shore up Britain's defenses.

v2X7Xq2.jpg

As Russia leans more and more towards war, the US economy begins mobilizing. Just as before, civilian factories are converted to military use, closed munitions and plane factories are reopened, and new units are put into training. This world peace is already drawing to an end.

The end comes on October 7th, 1944. Russia declares war on the United Baltic Provinces.

What a climatic build up for the Russians! Clearly there're not messing around. And unfortunate as it might be I don't see a way of beating them without even more trench warfare. Unless they make big mistakes and don't defend turkey or Afghanistan or something like that.

It could end like a few mega campaigns I've seen with nukes fall, everyone dies, Solaris here we come tyoe situation...

But that's a bit boring and difficult to do in hoi4 so...probs going to see a massive and really slow moving trench war if we're lucky and if not, europe getting steamrolled by russia and a really protracted war everywhere else. Much like that Trotsky Permenant Revolutionary AAR but from the other side.

What a climatic build up for the Russians! Clearly there're not messing around. And unfortunate as it might be I don't see a way of beating them without even more trench warfare. Unless they make big mistakes and don't defend turkey or Afghanistan or something like that.

I'm pretty worried, especially against two great powers with over 300 divisions, possibly 400, each!

Here we go. It finally begins.

The finale of the finale?

It could end like a few mega campaigns I've seen with nukes fall, everyone dies, Solaris here we come tyoe situation...

But that's a bit boring and difficult to do in hoi4 so...probs going to see a massive and really slow moving trench war if we're lucky and if not, europe getting steamrolled by russia and a really protracted war everywhere else. Nah, hopefully nothing like either of those situations will happen.

So much for peace. Now we see who will stand against Russia and her allies.

The peace barely lasted a year, not counting the invasion of Georgia... Then again, any year of peace in the HOI universe is uncommon.

I hope the West is much further along in the search for atomic weapons.

The US is pretty close. Not gonna give away anything about other nations. I found out they were at least beginning to research nukes by way of console commands... :/

Chapter 14 - Oct 1944: The First Stroke

"My fellow Americans,

I stand before you, as the fate of the free world hangs in the balance once again. The villainous and tyrannical Russian Empire has invaded free Europe. If this force of evil is not stopped, the democratic and just on Earth will be obliterated under the heal of this new Fascism. Peace reigned but for a short time in the world before it is thrust once again into war. I call on all free nations now to stand side by side against the tyrants, against the enslavers, against the fascists who would have you on all fours at their will.

We must stop this evil, before it destroys our world."

The American people are not eager to go back to war, but there is no choice. If Europe is to fall to the Stali Pact, there would be no way for the US to stand a chance in the future. They must be stopped. As it stands now, just hours after the war begins, Russia stands alone against the West.

54OCKMX.jpg

There is an immediate mobilization of the economy. It is startlingly quick, as though the US government was ready for such a move months before. The Navies are instantly put on attack mode, patrolling the Baltic Sea. The Air Corps stationed in the UBP are quick to gain air superiority.

Ag5gpxr.jpg

Thus far, Russia's allies have not declared war, but the US troops in Europe are put on high alert. But then on the 11th of October, China joins the war. Now the two largest countries in the world are at war with the Anglo Alliance.

fu33xFb.jpg

Hungary joins on the 12th, and the Americans see their first combat as the Hungarian port of Bone is taken in North Africa. It is very easy combat, but this does not stop the media from reporting the 'grand victory' against the Stali Pact in Africa.

bcL9tfn.jpg

A few hours later the war in Europe really starts, as Prussia joins the war. Unlike the last war in Europe, the US is on the offensive right off the bat. This time, there is no static front line against an onslaught of enemy troops. This time, the US aims not only to protect its allies, but to win. And quickly.

XhV3cJ9.jpg

The first naval battle takes place on the 13th against Russia, and 8 Russian ships are sunk. On the sea, this war will likely be like the last.

j5KN2Qe.jpg

The rest of the Stali pact, except Castille and Kenya, joins on the 15th. Castille appears to be unwilling to fight, given their proximity to the Teutons. Now the entire world is at war.

lY3dUFb.jpg

Combat ranges across the entirety of Europe, as navies collide on sea and air forces collide in the sky. After just a week of fighting, there have been 260 thousand casualties. It is the bloodiest week in human history. And the war will not get any better.

The former Covenant nations contribute a weak amount of men. Lotharingia, which was allowed to rebuild a small military, has 15 divisions, while the former Carinthian nations in the Alliance have a total of 8 divisions. The Teutonic Order and Picardy have not yet recovered from the Second Great War, and are thus short on divisions. Colombia and Peru both have about 20 divisions, but their distance from the fields of battle means they will not contribute much. Still, Prussia feels the full force of the Anglo Alliance, from the north through Lotharingia and from the south through former Carinthia.

ZbBRylu.jpg

The Prussian defenses are shattered in Carinthia, and the American troops cut deep into their territory. Several enemy divisions are overrun and captured. The offensive becomes more difficult as the mountains are reached and the armor divisions deemed less useful.

rZrPETz.jpg

Things do not go as well in the UBP. While the north holds strong against the Russians, the south is beginning to show wear, and several provinces are taken by the Stali Pact.

lhK8pvC.jpg

One of the greatest naval victories the modern world has ever seen takes place in the Baltic Sea. For a week straight, the battle raged over the entire sea, and dozens of Stali ships sank. In the end, the Stali Pact lost 60 military ships and over 70 convoys, while the US suffered only downed aircraft.

1n5RSzQ.jpg

Nearly a hundred thousand Stali troops are encircled in Zurich, as the city is put under siege. It takes just days and 10 thousand lives for the city to fall, and all the surviving enemy troops surrender.

z6iKBJc.jpg

The Battle for the Mediterranean does not go as well as the Baltic Sea, and dozens of US ships are sunk against the Hungarian and Eretnid navies. The US lacks airstrips within fighter range from the Adriatic, so enemy air power is sinking many ships.

fGBwtTj.jpg

One month after the war began, there have been a million deaths and 1.5 million wounded. The war is unbelievably and horrifically bloody, so much so that a new policy has been enacted in the US; from now on, no more than 50% of the men from any town can be drafted into the war. Several small towns in rural America have been nearly wiped out after all their young men drafted into the war were killed.

Both Prussia's and Poland's capitals are under siege come mid November, but each city promises a long battle for control. It will take another 2 weeks before the cities are taken. By the end, they are but husks of their former selves.

General TBC, who has been with the 3rd Army of tank divisions for years, is reassigned to the 12th Infantry Army. They are sent to the Teutonic port of Toscana to aid in the invasion of Hungarian Italy. By the time they arrive, Rome has been taken by the Teutonic Order.

XWHVXhp.jpg

As winter nears, the offensive through Prussia is given the most importance. Come winter, progress will halt. Prussia must fall by the end of November. Already the offensive is becoming sluggish.

QAioECP.jpg

The invasion of Sicily begins late November, and they meet no resistance.

OzXhcY6.jpg

Prussia capitulates on the 1st of December, as Munich falls. The government goes into hiding as their military forces disperse in all directions. A million Prussians died before their surrender.

MKTpeln.jpg

December 8th comes cold and crisp on the line in Europe. In 2 months, 2.5 million soldiers have died. It is unheard of death and destruction. The Dover Times release a controversial article featuring a photograph taken by a journalist in Bohemia showing the aftermath of the largest battle in Europe, where each side lost more than 30 thousand in the first day.

While the Second Great War destroyed much of Western Europe, this World War is already doing a fine job of obliterating all of Central and Eastern Europe.

Oh man. The previous war was nothing compared to this. We're in for a real fight now.
