Oh boy, now Russia is openly authoritarian now, well I guess it took some time before the inevitable happend, at least Russia isn´t Communist or (hopefully) Fascist through, so I guess the Russian people are faring better here than Russians under Stalinism in OTL.

I´m very pleased with the Covenat of Steel being pushed back and seeming to be near defeat, this war has been very bloody. At least this WW2 hasn´t reached the horrid brutality of our WW2, through I am wondering what are the spastics for civilian causalities in South America, Europe and Asia?

I wasn't planning on discussing civilian casualties in this war, but I could next chapter if there's interest.

I sort of touched on what I imagined the civilian cost to be in south america, namely, huge. I'd fully expect several million people were killed or displaced by the US army, the bombings, the various enemy armies and general chaos that war brought.

In Europe, the area roughly the size of france has been described as flattened eith most fsrnland and cifies burnt and bombed flat. This adds at minimum several more millipn people dead and displaced.

Chapter 11 - Apr 1943: Meenen's Demise

Kornilov and his military advisers stand around a strategic map. Japan is close to defeat in the east, while the Anglo Alliance is close to victory to the west. At home, Kornilov's enemies have been dealt with. His military advisers tell him to be cautious, especially after the turbulent events the past week. Entering the war in Europe will be seen as pointless and hostile by the rest of the world. He nods his head at their words and turns away from the map, walking to the window. Next to the window is a painting of his great great grandfather Lenin Kornilov, former ruler of Russia and founder of Leningrad. He contemplates the choice he must make and then turns back toward the men waiting around the table.

Russia is by far the most powerful nation the world has ever seen. US intelligence estimates they field anywhere from 263 divisions to over 600. Their Air Forces are estimated to be around 10 thousand planes strong. Their only weak area is their navy, with about 18 ships. Industrially, Russia has more civilian and military factories than even the US.

P3vQrVQ.jpg

Kornilov knows what Russia must do.

The offensive in Europe goes so well that Picardy is reborn on the 10th of April. The exiled government returns to the ruined capital Dunkirk, and they rejoin the fight.

6yxzSkL.jpg

As Japan is on its knees, Kornilov turns his gaze west. At long last, he declares war on Lotharingia. The Stali Pact is at war with the Covenant of Steel.

iHMV2Qq.jpg

The race to victory begins, as Russia quickly tries to catch up to the Anglo Alliance's fight against the Covenant. As Castille joins the war, the little nation of Andalusia is no longer ignored, and they are quickly overcome by the enemy forces.

rmXEEbQ.jpg

Surrounded from all sides, the Covenant collapses. By May, US troops are just miles from Luxembourg. Carinthia's capital of Gorizia is put under siege by Prussia, as Prussian and Hungarian forces flood into the country.

mM113Ni.jpg

In the most foolish move of the century, Galicia joins the Covenant of Steel as it dissolves. Galicia, once a powerful seafaring nation, is now just several islands and ports spread all around the world. Their government has been friendly with the Covenant for years now, but they have not chosen to join until just now.

zYbWCIs.jpg

Luxembourg falls on the 13th of May. Meenen is nowhere to be seen, but that is no surprise. It seems at this point that the Stali Pact will reach Scandinavia before the Anglo Alliance has the chance to recover it. What they will do with it once they have it is not yet known.

CboSCOD.jpg

Meenen's plane lands in Hamburg, where there is a caravan of cars waiting to take him to the docks. At the docks, a single submarine, the last ship in the Lotharingian navy, awaits his arrival. This will take him to Santiago, the capital of Chile. He will not be left to the mercy of either the Anglo Alliance or the Stali Pact.

His car ride there, with his wife Helen and their daughter Maxima, is completely silent. While this part of the country starves quietly in their houses, just a hundred miles away buildings are blasted apart as the Stali Pact recklessly grabs as much land as possible.

They arrive at the dockyard nearing nightfall on May 25th. The driver, Albert Kammel, parks and opens the door to let Meenen and his family out of the back of the car. The other cars in the caravan unload a dozen other men, loyal to Meenen, who will be coming with him. Albert stays by the car as Meenen and his entourage approach the submarine, and he looks up into the clear sky and then at his pocket watch.

Other trucks arrive with additional provisions for the trip. The majority was loaded weeks before, but final supplies are loaded on just after Meenen and his family board. As the last of the men board, Albert gets back in the car and, unreasonably quickly, drives out of the city.

Suddenly, the sky is not so clear. As though out of nowhere, thousands of bombers come from the west, dropping dozens of bombs each. Lotharingian aircraft are nowhere to be seen. Although the target is the dockyard, high altitude bombing is never accurate, and the entire city feels the wrath of the Anglo Alliance. Not a building is spared. One bomb by pure luck strikes the submarine directly and water gushes into its compartments. It takes just seconds, and the submarine and all within are at the bottom of the harbor.

3IxbwLe.jpg

The Lotharingian government falls into disarray, as its top government officials die. It is the end of Lotharingia. Both the military and the government hierarchy collapse, and whatever is left of Lotharingia surrenders to the onslaught of enemies.

Who totally existed guys!

As Japan is on its knees, Kornilov turns his gaze west. At long last, he declares war on Lotharingia. The Stali Pact is at war with the Covenant of Steel.

Both good and bad. Shortens the war but realistically this just gives russia chance to warm up and mobilise before seeing if the West is in any state to fight back.

Surrounded from all sides, the Covenant collapses. By May, US troops are just miles from Luxembourg. Carinthia's capital of Gorizia is put under siege by Prussia, as Prussian and Hungarian forces flood into the country.

Right, we still need to get as much as possible. Need to keep as many democracies in europe as possible and keep them as strong as possible. Can't just rely on GB to keep an eye on everything.

In the most foolish move of the century, Galicia joins the Covenant of Steel as it dissolves.

Hmm...oh yes, they are still here. Not for much longer though...

It seems at this point that the Stali Pact will reach Scandinavia before the Anglo Alliance has the chance to recover it. What they will do with it once they have it is not yet known.

Probably puppet as much as they can to compete with GB in the north sea. Great.

At the docks, a single submarine, the last ship in the Lotharingian navy, awaits his arrival. This will take him to Santiago, the capital of Chile. He will not be left to the mercy of either the Anglo Alliance or the Stali Pact.

Wait for it...

It takes just seconds, and the submarine and all within are at the bottom of the harbor.

Truly a victory for the forces of justice!!!
Few know that it was TBC's twin brother, NPC 'the mad Bomber', Wing Commander, ;)flying that plane...

So the war is over. I must say I am well pleased with my character's conduct and achievement, as well as his army. However, the spoils must now be carved up, all thise angry young men are going home to a ruined continent (or Amercia, which has to pay for it all) and Russia is ascendanct.

I know you said end date 1948 but pleeease keep going until we at least sort out whether this is going to be a cold war or a mighty winner take the world scenario.

Kammel sold out his boss, wonder what he got for that. Was he a spy the whole time? Nice, now we get to see how Europe gets divided or if the war continues against the new participants.

Russia bides their time to enter the war perfectly as Galicia makes the bold strategy to be moronic as possible.

Lotharingia has fallen! Can't wait to see the state of Europe once the dust settles.

Intermission - May 1943: The Norfolk Peace Conference

The Norfolk Conference commences on May 28th, 3 years after the start of the Second Great War. Present are representatives from all members of the Anglo Alliance and the Stali Pact, as well as representatives of most of the Covenant members. The next few days are arduous, as so much is at stake.

KgPs2WG.jpg

President Eternien is adamant that a major rebuilding of Europe MUST take place. He proposes the New Europe Project, which will focus on rebuilding the Covenant's CIVILIAN industry and helping them transition back into the global stage, as well as repairing the destruction caused by the war. Many are against giving aid to the former Covenant, mainly the Stali Pact, but also the Teutons. They suffered greatly at the hands of Carinthia and Lotharingia, and they are not eager to see any aid be given to them.

Eventually, the NEP was passed and agreed upon by the majority. Reparations are also widely fought for by the Teutons and, the nerve, the Stali Pact. After only fighting for a few weeks, Russia believes the former Covenant nations owe Russia a debt. Eternien pushes back on this absurd idea, saying that reparations would only serve to re-antagonize the fallen nations. If Europe is to rebuild, forgiveness is vital. The Stali Pact has little leverage for reparations, and none are pressed on the enemy.

The Conference ends on June 3rd.

In Europe, Lotharingia is now a democracy headed by American chosen Joseph Liedts. The government is currently controlled by the US, until the country is ready to stand on its own. Most of their industry is in shambles from the war, but the NEP will ensure that its civilian economy will flourish in the future. All of their southern and western territories are gone, split between Picardy and the newly reformed, US controlled Lombardia. The Dutch Rijk is occupied by the US, until a new country can be formed. The Fourth Reich was annexed by Poland just before the war ended, and there would be no way but war to get it back or liberate it.

Castille annexed Andalusia the second their troops occupied the small nation. They outright refused to hear of any independence for their now small population of Muslims.

e0gI6My.jpg

Carinthia has been shattered, replaced by small nation states. Provence and Genoa are US puppets for the time being, while Ferrara is neutral and Ancona is a puppet of Russia. The last of the northern Carinthian territory is annexed by Prussia, while the eastern parts are taken by Hungary.

nQa072w.jpg

In North Africa, Arabia's western holdings are formed into the new nation of Morocco, which is under US control. Tunisia is under US occupation until a new nation can be organized for the local people.

Bz4weo6.jpg

Castille swooped in and managed to grab a few eastern Arabian territories during the peace conference. Lebanon and Gaza are taken, as well as a small state in Upper Egypt. Ethiopia is released from Arabia, and they are given all of their southern coastal provinces.

QYzgPsm.jpg

Further south, all of Galicia's continental Africa holdings are taken by Haiti. They will forever regret coming into the war so late.

RaOe7Rp.jpg

In the Americas, both the Peruvian and the Colombian governments are replaced by US controlled democratic ones. Josa Gonzalez is the new president of Colombia, and Felipe Cabrera is president of Peru.

iqZXEO2.jpg

Russia did not come out of the conference with much. They entered the war incredibly late and thus did not have the opportunity to seize much. However, Kornilov sees it differently. According to him and his government, the Covenant fell so quickly in the last weeks of the war because of the Stali Pact's intervention. It is due to their entrance that the war ended when it did. They are owed as much as the Anglo Alliance, he states.

His grievances are ignored.

Showdown with Russia incoming? I sure hope this war isn't over yet. It's only 1943 and 7 pages!

Aside from Russia potentially being an issue later on, it looks like you're the grand winner in all this by a mile. Nice to Picardy back on the map too, love them still defying the odds.

To be clear, did the Teutonic Order get any reparations?

No, but plenty of funding from the NEP is used in helping rebuild their northern lands. I forgot to mention that the NEP also aids the Anglo Alliance, but I've added that in now.

Chapter 12 - Jun 1943: Russian Consolidation

The casualties from the Second Great War, also known as the War of the Covenant, were terrible and high. In all, 3 million Anglo men died, 1 million from the US, a little less from Britain, half a million from the Teutonic Order, 400 thousand from Picardy, and the rest split between Haiti and the other minor powers.

From the Covenant side, over 11 million troops died. A staggering 9 million Lotharingian troops died. Of the other enemies, Arabia lost the most with 1 million dead, followed by Peru with 600 thousand and Provence with half a million. The other Covenant nations lost 400 thousand collectively.

The Stali Pact lost much fewer troops in comparison. The worst losses came from Prussia with 50 thousand dead, while Poland lost 45 thousand, and Russia 20 thousand. Castille only lost a thousand in their fight with Andalusia. The rest collectively lost 10 thousand.

The total military deaths were just under 15 million.

Civilian casualties were worse than any war before. Over 400 thousand Teutonic civilians died, all in the northern part of their country. Picardy lost nearly a million, an astonishing number, considering their military deaths were just 400 thousand. In fact, overall, over 3% of Picardy's population died in the war. Britain lost about 200 thousand civilians from their Normandy and Scandinavian territories, while 30 thousand died in Lotharingian bombing of English cities early in the war.

Provence was fairly easily spared with just 60 thousand dead. Carinthia lost 300 thousand, the majority of which were caused by the reckless invasion of Prussia from the north and Hungary from the south and east. Arabia lost only 30 thousand, as much of the combat was in open desert. Castille's invasion of Andalusia caused 30 thousand civilian deaths. Lotharingia was by far the worst hit, with 2 million civilian deaths.

In total, 18.6 million people died in the Second Great War, more than any other war in history. On average, 17 thousand people died a day during the war.

With the war at an end, the economy goes back to a civilian economy, while the draft ends. Those still in the army are required to remain in it for some time, while peace is restored in Europe.

The US forces overseas are reorganized into two armies, US Forces in Europe (UFE) and US Forces in the Mediterranean (UFM). Europe is now split in two between the Anglo Alliance and the Stali Pact, and the UFE reinforce the borders with Poland and Prussia. They also station many divisions within Lotharingia and the newly created former Carinthian countries to ensure that peace is upheld.

The navies sail to Ireland to be reorganized into Atlantic and Pacific forces. Carrier Groups 1 - 4 are created, as well as Sub Groups 1 and 2. CG 1 and 2 and SG 1 are designated as the Atlantic Navy, while CG 3 and 4 and SG 2 are the Pacific Navy, and set to rebase in the Philippines.

(Some weird names going on here)

The majority of the Air Corps is disbanded and returned to the reserves, while two wings of the best fighters available, P-51s, are stationed in Lotharingia.

Friesland joins the Anglo Alliance, and the Dutch Rijk's territory is given to them to incorporate into their nation.

Information out of Russia has been limited since that Grisly Tuesday, and censorship has been upped 10 fold. On June 15th, the Russian Government announces the annexation of the Mongol Khanate, which has been an autonomous state within Russia for years. It is unknown whether there was an invasion, a Russian coup, or mutual agreement involved in the move. Either way, the Mongol state is no more.

Benin falls to Mali in late June, and Benin and Aquitaine are both puppeted. In addition, Maldives and Dahomey are both liberated and made puppets of Mali. Mali is now a fearsome fascist force in West Africa.

The ancient kingdom of Taulias is the next to fall in Russia. The Autonomous state is annexed without explanation from the Russian Government.

The invasion of Japan proves much harder than Russia anticipated, and the campaign is still going on. Kyoto is under siege from the south while Tokyo falls from a second beachhead from the east.

JYbfoDT.jpg

In New Mexico, the Boston Project has its first breakthrough, and the first nuclear reactor begins construction in New Mexico. Despite the end of the Second Great War, the threat of the Stali Pact is enough to ensure continued funding of the Boston Project.

Japan holds on into October, when Kyoto falls. Small pockets of resistance still exist in the south, but the majority of southern Japan is under Russian occupation. From what news comes from Japan, the Japanese fight a suicidal war, throwing themselves to their deaths and trying to take as many Russians with them as possible. Boobytraps are common, even explosive laiden bodies.

The Chinese invade Hokaido in November, in an attempt to speed the end of the Pacific War. As the Japanese's defunct capital of Hakodate falls, their government surrenders. After nearly 7 years of war, Japan has fallen.

The hungry Stali Pact grab as much as possible in the resulting peace treaty. Russia takes all of Korean Manchuria, and Chagatai is liberated in Mongolia. Korea is made, strangely, an Eretnid puppet. China keeps the lands it occupied from the Jin, the Shun, and Cambodia.

In West Africa, Air is liberated. The rest of Mali and Benin is split between Castille and the Kingdom of Prussia, who arrives on the colonization stage a little late.

For the first time in a very long time, the world is at peace.

Before we start, the war ended so ridiculously in favour of America that we might get away with all the rebuilding and issues at home stuff before the massive war with Russia kicks off. That being said, Asia looks terrifying and we still don't know how busted up South America is so they might be of use or a dangerous backdoor left open.

The Norfolk Conference commences on May 28th, 3 years after the start of the Second Great War. Present are representatives from all members of the Anglo Alliance and the Stali Pact, as well as representatives of most of the Covenant members. The next few days are arduous, as so much is at stake.

It is however a chance for all the commanding generals of the Anglo Alliance to meet for the first time in years or in some cases, ever. TBC and many others attempt to cash in their acquired prestige and fame to get their pet projects and plans to continue into peacetime, plus ensure Europe and Africa won't be at war again for some time (at least, no one but Russia).

In the end, the new president as far more open to the concept of listening to his advisors and making good decisions, at least from a military and economic perspective. Whilst it might prove unpopular, most in the know agree that the rebuilding of Europe and America is going to be critical in ensuring lasting peace. Speed is also a factor, as Russia will not wait forever to make its move on the West.

The Stali Pact has little leverage for reparations, and none are pressed on the enemy.

The US basically writing a blank cheque for all affected nations means most calling for reparations outside of petty vengeance quiet down. However, South American interests are conspicuously absent from discussion, to the frustration of every man present who had to fight there. Whilst the British have the excuse of it being 'our problem', we in the US certainly cannot afford to overlook our neighbours in the south. Not if we want the continent to remain stable and prevent it from turning into a new haven for communists and fascists.

In the Americas, both the Peruvian and the Colombian governments are replaced by US controlled democratic ones. Josa Gonzalez is the new president of Colombia, and Felipe Cabrera is president of Peru.

At the conclusion of the talks, General TBC was caught leaving the conference by the British Press. He voiced his opinions that the talks were a resounding success for Europe in general and the United States in particular but also had some choice words to give about the higher military brass devaluing their soldiers' lives and ignoring the South American campaign entirely in the post war statistics, despite the gigantic humanitarian crisis that was ongoing in Peru and much of the north west of the continent. The so-called 'Forgotten War' was, in his words, an example of revisionist history at its most blatant, erasing a military and moral catastrophe from history even as it continued to bring pain and suffering to thousands. He also stated that the medical arm of the military was criminally underfunded, undermanned and unfavourable in Dover, yet bore much of the credit for the eventual success in Peru despite overwhelming odds in keeping as many soldiers alive as they could.

He did not at that time lay the blame at any one target but upon his return to the US alongside most of his demobilising army, he began to focus more on the current and former Republican governments as the source of many of these issues, and many other inept decisions regarding the war. Despite being a lifelong republican himself, his gradual disillusionment with the party mirrored many within the US who had suffered through strike action, riots and increasingly poor working conditions. The astonishingly high price the US paid for victory in Europe, both in terms of body count and the amount of money promised to rebuild the continent had made the voting public of America exceedingly bitter about the whole affair. Though there were many, many celebrations and parades for the returning troops, and the frontline commanders themselves were very popular indeed across all fronts, the military as a whole and the government in general was rather unpopular by the time demobilisation began to end. President Eternien had his work cut out for him in the coming months to justify his position on Europe and restore some faith in his government and party, all the while dodging increasingly vocal war heroes and sparring with the democrats.

You can see the small radical faction called the Swiss Union in Central Europe. South America has the Union of Silver, the Brazilian and Chilean alliance.
