Hi CK players

Now, I'm realy happy, I just succeed becomming a duke !
It was my aim when I began as a 2 provinces count.

By the way ... I found it quite boring to do because with an awfull intrige score (1), the only way I found to become a duke is to wait that my son took my titles at my own death :(

Then, I was able to control enough province with enough efficiency to claim a duke title.

Is there any other way to become duke with a low intrigue score ?
(As a count can't propose vasalisation)

Now, I look at the king title and it seems that there is a long way to go :D

You can gain a duke title by conquest, by having it granted to you by your king (rarely happens but sometimes your lucky) or try to inherit it.

Low intrigue doesn't prevent you from achieving that. If you are afraid that your efficiency is to low don't. If you are a count of more provinces never give it away to your son/heir. Since he might lose the title.

So, I could inherit it marrying my sons to duke's daughter without own son. that's right ?

You're right, I was a bit afraid being wipe out from the game because of a stronger neighbourg.
So I tryed to keep a good economic level.

I gave a count title to my sons
He become my liege's vassal :(
And he loose the province during the war but the peace treaty (which I didn't see) gave him his province back :D I was so angry against him :p

So you advice me not to give title to my son, but I had a prestige loss "your first son is without a land" and without prestige, I cannot make claims !
Do you still suggest to keep every title when you're a count ?

Yes and the duchy must have a semisalic law, preferably semisalic primogeneture.

Take the prestige loss. As a count you have more events that can give you claims, use those.

Suppose you start as a 2 province count, you give away 1 county to your son. Then you are left with just 1 province. Then after a while you get enough prestige to claim a title, you then still only have 1 province with 1 claim. That is still worse then your starting position, which was 2 provinces. :)

Yes, their (your son's, his daughter's) son will inherit AS LONG AS they are using some form of semisalic law. This son then needs to inherit you for you to get control of the title.

I gave a count title to my sons
He become my liege's vassal :(

I think everyone has probably made that mistake :) I remember very well how I felt when I gave a title away that was the same level as mine for the first time... Unfortunately in my case it was a King title...

So you advice me not to give title to my son, but I had a prestige loss "your first son is without a land" and without prestige, I cannot make claims !

Prestige is important and very hard to come by when you are small... but provinces are provinces and are more important and even harder to come by... :)

As far as getting claims, there are events that give them. Set your laws up so you are eligible for tourney events (Feudal Contract gives this, which you will want to be running as soon as you actually get vassals anyway) and you will occasionally get "A rival ruler has insulted you at a tourney" with an option that gives a good chance of getting a claim.

[edit: beaten to it :)]

Thanks for your help ;)

Yep, you're right.

Next time I will keep on my wars without being afraid of a small intrigue score, thanks for the advice Veldmaarschalk.

But i'll continue giving title to my childs, I found it nice and quite role-play :D
Last time it was quite stressful seeing my son loosing his province which I have gained with much trouble.

Having not played as a vassal in quite a while, can anyone tel me how the game now is when it comes to taking territory as a vassal? I seem to remember that the king would always either take the province for himself (which I suppose shouldn't be possible now), or just make peace right away. Is it still like that, or I can actually take territory as a small vassal, with the kings help?

And now ? As I'm a duke ? Should I keep the more province on my own (with the prestige loss because my son don't have a title)
Or should I give him 1 province and vassalize him ?

By the way, can't I vassalize count now ?
It's written, duke can't vassalize count ... so, is there only king who can vassalize count ?

Thanks for your help.

If you are a duke and give a count title to someone, he will be your vassal. So you can go ahead and give your son one of your provinces. Just don't make him a duke, because then he'll be independent from you.

I'd be interested in seeing where this info is written at (and I'm sure others feel the same way). If it's mentioned here in the Forum, it needs to be corrected.

You can't have the same rank that you are as Vassals. Dukes can have Count Vassals, Kings can have both Duke and Count vassals.

AHHH !!!! Yet something else Paradox did that didn't quite get right in translation.

"A Duke cannot vassalize a Count" What it should say is, You cannot vassalize this Count. You are "A Duke" and this Count is the :A Count".

A Vassal must have a low loyalty to his Liege (I 'think' it's 50%) or be independent before he can accept offers of Vassalization from the Human player. On the flip side, if you are a Count or Duke and you already have a Liege, you can't switch to another Liege until you also have a low loyalty figure or are independent.

Good find tho, thank you.

Ok, so it's just an unaccurate translation.

I thought a vassal should be able to accept vassalization even if he is already under the autority of another liege.
He could go independent and be vassalize in the same time.

So I have to wait till the vassal loyalty goes under 50%, is there a way to promote or encourage this kind of loyalty decrease ?

Sometimes it turns out good though.

Péter Aba (IIRC he is Péter) is a count level vassal of Salamon, king of Hungary in the beginning, with 2 provinces.

When he was aging, I gave a province to my heir.

Later, Géza became hungarian king.

- Géza made my aging Aba duke of Pest
- Géza made my heir duke of Slovakia

2 duke titles in the family for free :D
