I don't think that we should vote on what option Sterk gets. I think that it is his choice. I do think that we should vote on which options he can choose from. It would be unfair for me to decde if POL gets 3 european provs or 5 colonys. He should choose that and give us the names. I wish to vote only on what we consider fair options.

As to UN I do not agree 100% with you. UN is making a lot of work in nations that you or me never think of (Sudan) It has problems and needs to be reformed but so dose EU & US. :)

Balinus and Frank XIV,
I will be here for tonight's session. However, I will be gone the next two session, Febuary 4th and 11th. Would either of you be interested in subbing Persia for me for those two sessions??

PP, the Sudan?!? You cannot be serious?

It took them how many months to decide to vote on the issue of what constitutes genocide and if it applies in Sudan or not?

By the time the UN gets done deciding that BEFORE they even vote on help or not, everyone will be dead (see Rwanda).

Granted, I have an ethnocentric view because a majority of the manpower, money, and supplies comes from the United States, while we get shit upon by the Nations in the UN.

It makes me ROFL when I see China and Vietnam calling for UN action concerning Abu Grahib (or whatever that prison is in Iraq) when they are two of the biggest culprits who do MUCH MUCH worse than the United States could ever do.

Currently, as long as Koffe Annon (or whatever the spelling) is in power, the UN is a suspect corrupt organization.

hehe Strix, i agree in some points, specially in the corruption area.

However UN was created to foment cooperation between countries to:

1)Avoid world crisis, 1929-1932 (--> Treaty of Paris/Versailles --> Hitler) :x
2)Avoid genocides and world wars / military conflicts
3)Improve fair politics/environment/politics to avoid human disasters

About China, i think they are as worse as Usa is, Usa placed dictators like Pinochet in Chile, not to mention Usa used 2 atomic bombs against an already defeated fascist Japan. Maybe China is looking for revenge by creating deficit in Usa and fucking international comerce, well, they are free to do so after what the occidental world did to them from 1600 till 1945. I think this is all about interests and there will be no perfect world or system :x By weakening UN we're fomenting protectionism, nationalism and wars/genocides.

Btw, Portugal will be there for tonight, remember, only diplomacy can stop that little bastard ;)

Don't get me wrong, I would love the UN (as would the average US citizen) if it did what it was intended to do.

However, the average US citizen is tired of being the World's Welfare Donor.

It started after WWII, when the US forgave all the debt incurred by the Marshall Plan.

Now, we exist under a modified Marshall Plan, we allow nations to dump goods, undercut prices, and pirate US inventions, all in the name of World Peace.

It's easy for Japan and Europe to have booming economies, the US would rock the world if we just withdrew all our troops, personnel, equipment, and supplies from the various and many countries we help support/protect.

Not to mention wasted foreign aid to countries that leaders either steal or waste it.

World Opinion is low because the US overlooks one important aspect, NOBODY loves their loan agent.

Sure, they are our best buddies when it comes time for handouts, benefits, and other perks, but once that "loan" check is cashed, they become our biggest bashers and haters.

I believe we should learn our lesson from the USSR, and cut loose all the umibilical cords before it's too late.

Why don't we? Unfortunately, we realize that without our help, the UN would be totally unable to perform as peace keepers and protectors of the peoples of the world.

Hell, the United Nations STILL hasn't settled the Korean War, and that came to a stand-still 50+ years ago?

There really is only two choices for the United States, return to isolationism or take the world in hand...

Looks like Bush has chosen the latter, we'll see what history shows!

The thing with Japan and the atomic bombs is difficult to have a discussion over.

First, there is no doubt that the Japanese deserved such treatment, just ask 20+ million murdered Chinese plus the countless raped, abused, and broken. The tens of thousands of Allied troops that were executed, forced to slave labor, and mistreated.

Second, it can be argued that the figures submitted for casualties as a result of an invasion of the Mainland are either too high or too low. As time passes, people will insist that the number is way too high. This is because it's scholars and researchers who never saw combat or the fanaticism that the Japanese military fought over every piece of land.

Third, and the often missed point, the United States saved tens of millions of lives by dropping the bomb.

Tens of millions, you say?

Yes, we needed to show Stalin that we were serious and had the force of will to deploy such a weapon, especially after the debacle that was diplomacy at Potsdam.

It can be argued that Stalin wouldn't have stopped where he did, and that the Allies would have been forced to fight the USSR (with/without Communist China as an ally).

That would have cost tens of millions of more lives, both military and civilian.

Our dropping of the "Bomb" was our way of ending the Japanese War AND showing the USSR we were willing to "cross the line".

I think Stalin got the picture, General Winter would be warmed by the glow of the ashes of Moscow.

Well, while I believe I should be able to get a non-novgorod prov and vassal, it's majority's consent to choose from those options, but could I take something like a combo of 1 and 2?

EDIT: Well, I've decided that, if I can, I'll just take the vassalization option leave Novgorod as Russian.

Well looks like we have issue of Russia solved.

Barca can you edit the file?

I don't think this is a place for political discution so I will be very quick in replaying to Strix.

Marshal Plan benefited US just as much as Europe. If US would not give the cash to Europe it would not be able to sell any goods there. Thanks to US cash Europeans purchased everything necessery to rebuild europe from USA. That is why Americans where able to have nice live with only one parent working.

The free trade stuff that you complain about was our (American) idea, which we were pushing at everyone. Now it benefits them more than us so we do not like it.

GErmany, France and UK equal US in GDP (more or less) but give 3 times more than we do in international aid. Large portion of US aid (almost 25%) is given to Izrael. That is why 16% of Izrael population can be in the army without nation going bankrupt. I think this has more to do with arab hate of US than your teory of "loan giver".

I have no problem with US using atomic on Japan. It was the fastest and least costly way of wining the war for US.

Korea has more to do with US inability to win the war vs China and USSR than UN. Btw UN is not created to agree with US on all the issue. We are only 300 mil people out of 6 bilion that are members of UN so maybe we should agree more with their opinion.

UN was created only on US request. Russia, China did not want it. Stalin agreed to it in Yalta in exchange for Eastern Europe. UN is the way it is becouse we (Roosvelt) created it that way.

Before you start blaming everyone else for everything you need to look at us first. You will be shocked to discover how many F***ups US is guilt of.

Sorry about the fuss I made.

But just to be sure, you will be editing my BB down by 2 for each prov, right? Before this war I was practically at 0 BB.

Hate to nitpick, PP, but I believe there are much fewer than 6 billion people in the UN :p. Mmm... being an ass is so fun.
