I have a Mac Mini (mid-2011 version), 16GB RAM (which I ran through memtest; it passed with no problems), Intel HD Graphics 3000, running Mac OS 10.8.4 and CKII 1.103 (checksum WQLL). I have no mods installed, and have all the DLC up through TOG (although I leave Sunset Invasion turned off). Nearly every time I attempt to play, whether I start CKII through Steam or just open it directly, it will eventually hang; music and sound effects will play and the cursor will respond to the mouse, but I cannot interact. Even if I play in windowed mode, I cannot switch applications or force-quit; the only way to proceed is to hard-reboot by holding the power button down.

I can't figure out any pattern to when the hangs occur or gameplay cause for them. Sometimes I can play for a couple of hours, sometimes I can't even select a character. There is no particular action I take that consistently will or will not result in a hang; it does not seem to be related to any particular UI option, region of the map, etc. It happens mid-song. I have deleted and reinstalled the game and all its files with no effect.

Any advice? I've enjoyed the time I've been able to play for more than half an hour at a stretch, but attempting to play is becoming a pretty frustrating experience overall. Let me know if more information would be useful in troubleshooting. Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately that video card is known to have these problems with CK2. It's better under 10.8.4 but still not good. FYI the documented requirements for CK2 Mac are:

They've never mentioned the Intels but I guess it's safe to say the 3000 is a lesser card than those.

The issue with it not running at all on Intels was fixed after 1.06, but these problems still remain I'm afraid.

Well, some good news, I think: I started running it in windowed mode at 1024x768 and have not had it hang since. (I was able to go for several hours at 1280x800 before hanging, as well.) It's not perfect, but it's certainly playable now!
