Currently, the French mission American Indepence requires player to be allied with a former colonial nation. Obviously that colonial nation is meant to be someone else's former colony, the alliance probably gained after successfully supporting independence. I believe the spirit behind the mission is not about liberation of colonies in itself, but French influence in the New World. French influence is at maximum when all the New World is French colonies.
I suggest to add for the American Independence mission a completion condition that allows it to be completed when all the New World (or every colonized province) belongs to French subjects. Compare this to the mission Dominate The Empire, where the domination can be achieved by either dismantling the Empire, or becoming the emperor. Perhaps the mission reward may not matter much at that point, but some players may like to have all the missions ticked.
