Important note, I have made this thread in suggestions as well, but as that part of the forum does not get any traffic I've decided to move it here, I want to apologize, if it's a problem, pls delete it.

Hello everyone, just as the title suggests, I want to talk about some changes and fixes of the French focuses, and not only the focuses.

For me personally the french focus tree is one of the best focuses in the game yet, I love it's design, the problem is that some focuses lack any interesting features and depth or are just buggy at times, no offense to the developers and content designers, I understand that creating fun and balanced focuses is hard, but I think there is always room for improvement.

I will start from left and move to the right

colonies.png

The first problem is a problem of balance in the industrial tree, the colonial tree should be buffed, you have to do five 70 days focuses (350 days) for 6 factories and 10 compliance (or 10 factories if you have done "Invest in Algerian France" prior to that as well) which is nothing compared to Germany's 2 industrial focuses which in total gives you 12 factories for the cost of 140 days. I suggest either making the 3 colonial investment focuses 35 days or at least 1 more factory for each of them, I don't see them as worth doing at all other than unlocking the research slot.

Moving to the political trees

commie1.png

The communist tree, in my opinion lacks any depth, the design is great, but most of the focuses are just... bold and uninteresting, there are 5 focuses that do the exact same thing, granting 5% communism support, 3 of them doing nothing else (2,4,5), with only 2 (1,3) of them having something else associated with them like bonus PP and stability.

commie2.png

Moving down the communist tree, there are 2 mutually exclusive paths, both of them have the exact same leader and flag, even though looking at them would make you think that there would be some big differences between the kind of communism both of them would practice, there are plenty of communist politicians that would reflect the 2 paths as well as enough flags to choose from all over the internet.

stresa.png

Moving to the democratic branch I would like to talk about the France Leads subbranch, first of all, UK never accepts the proposal, also I see no reason why UK would loose all of it's dominions if the Front would ratify, second of all, the Franco-Soviet Treaty is kind of useless, Germany never directly attacks France, and by the time Germany attacks USSR, France is already at war with Germany, if USSR accepts the Treaty, either Germany should be locked out of Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact focus or USSR should never accept the Pact.

FFDD.png

Moving to these 2 focuses that I find no use for, one more than the other, if you choose to go conservative democratic, you won't have any fascist support, making the Freedom Front focus useless, if you choose to go fascist, and wish to get rid of your democratic support, you just do the Destroy Decadence focus, these are 2 focuses that do the exact same thing, and I never find myself taking the, tbh.

DF.png

This focus does nothing other than removing some guarantees that will anyway disappear as soon as the countries that are guaranteed join a faction, it's another waste of 70 days that helps you with nothing and adds nothing interesting other than a cool event.

Fash.png

Another complaint about ideological subbranches and their flags, they both use Petain's flag, which is weird to say the least, Jacques Doriot 's party had it's own version of the french flag
ginslm342sg41.png
while François de La Rocque's party had no flag, I would say that it is better either to use the normal French flag, the French flag with the French Republic emblem on it (as it looks pretty fashy) considering de La Rocque's ideology is considered a precursor of Gaulism, or the French flag with their cock on it (no pun intended)

Spain.png

Going down the Latin Entente branch, there is a focus that really really frustrates me, which is the Reach Out To Spain focus, the focus requires Francoist Spain to be fascist, even though de La Rocque himself wasn't really considered a fascist depending on who you ask, so it seems absurd to me that a unaligned Francoist Spain can join the Axis, but not the Latin Entente (even though unaligned Portugal can)

TNBOF.png

Also the Natural Borders of France focus only gives you a bunch of war goals. it should actually give you the claims as well on those territories + the ability to core them, also pls fix the borders of the Rhineland.

SB.png

On the other subbranch of the fascist tree there is the Split Belgium focus, after splitting it, France does not get a core on Wallonia even though the event states that the French population withing Wallonia voted to unite with France, also a cool thing would be adding both Wallonia and Flanders as releasables, and if Belgium looses one of the 2 it's name should change, or if France annexes Wallonia, instead of puppeting Belgium it should Puppet Flanders.

EDIT:

monfrsp - Copy.png

Moving to the monarchist branch, the Bourbon is pretty boring because it leaves you with nothing to do if you manage to unite Spain and France, a "simple" solution would be to load the Spanish monarchist path for France, with the focuses that are are highlighted already unlocked/bypassed for obvious reasons.

I think that this is all, I know it is a lot of complaints, but some of these things really frustrates me while I try to play as France is one of my favorite nations to play, and I would be so happy and thankful if the devs would at least consider looking into some of these.

Thanks for your time and I want to apologize for either my bad grammar and bad or vague expressions.

Have an amazing day.

A minor change I would add, is the Avenge Waterloo focus in the third empire branch should also give a war goal on Luxembourg.

And the Reorganize the Dutch focus only gives a compliance boost to the Netherlands. It should be Reorganize the low countries and give the boost to Netherlands and Belgium.

to be honest I have never even tried to play the monarchist branches, I don't really care for them, but there are things to be fixed there as well, especially the Borboun Branch.

This is the flag of De La Rocque’s party: View attachment 635244
yeah, the thing is that this flag would look weird on a France that intends to own land up to Rhineland :/

also this was the Party emblem, not really the flag, + it would look really weird, an emblem with France and the name of the party on the flag.

could be a good solution that after you take the focus for Natural Borders of France the flag updates (+ you should get claims and decisions to core the land)

Wow, the Latin Entente being unable to invite non-aligned Natty Spain is still a thing? I made a bug report about this the first week of LR's release. You should definitely be able to do it with Carlist Spain, National Syndicalist Spain, or Francoist Spain. Doesn't really make sense to have such a specific limitation when, as you mentioned, Portugal itself doesn't have that limitation to be invited.

The one time I intervened in the SCW on behalf of the republicans, I was appalled by how ungrateful they were when they won - they promptly went commie and hated me. Ever since, I've told them to sod off when they ask for my help.

I don't agree with the OP about making it quicker to get those extra focus tree factories; France was buffed so much by 1.9 that it doesn't need any more goodies.

Compare french industrial focuses with German focuses, within 4 focuses germany gets 12 factories, 10% construction speed and a 75pp captain of industry advisor, now France gets 6 factories, 10% compliance and 1 year -5% consumer goods/stability for 6 focuses, I understand France should be nowhere near as strong and buffed as Germany BUT, France also gets its inefficient economy spirits on top of having low war support, pretty much having no lamd doctrines researched, being stuck on civilian economy and having no PP for most of the preparation phase of the game.
