Freeze / lagging?

Hi there,

I have recently booted up CK2 for the first time on a new laptop and am having trouble running it smoothly. The game loads fine and there is no lag when paused, but once spacebar is hit the game freezes / stutters every time a day passes / 'ticks'. This is also the case for EU4 and HOI4, to the point where all three games are unplayable.

My specs are as follows:

GPU
AMD Radeon(TM) RX Vega 10 Graphics
Primary/Integrated


VRAM
2048 MB
DDR4 1200 MHz


CPU
AMD Ryzen 7 3700U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx
4 Cores


RAM
8 GB

Obviously its an integrated GPU - is this the cause of the poor performance? I should note that I am able to play Stellaris and Imperator without any trouble, hence the confusion as to why I'm struggling specifically with the older titles!

Hard to say why some of these games work okay and others not, they are similar under the covers in general.


DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

I should have mentioned that lowering and disabling graphical options makes no difference to the daily stutter.

The Vega is not a great performer of course, being an integrated video system, but it's well over the game's minimum and why performance for CK2 would be worse than Stelaris I don't know.

I suspect the issue is, unusually, in the CPU as the AMD Ryzen 7 3700U you have seems to rate a little lower than the specified minimum of the 3500 (which would tally with your report of the daily calculation ticks being the problem) - although again why that would affect this game and not Stellaris I cannot see.
