Spanish have about 30 000 men stationed in Sardinia, Suvorov. I don't want to risk it right now. Besides, i want Naples back.

Vulture, even though they have CB on Malta, i'd call it a suicide. Probably the only reason Spanish didn't take it was that sieging Rhodos is another suicide (or maybe they were busy with their another wars)

It's a bit difficult with Savoy: they are in a French alliance and wars just keep coming and coming. Only hope is dishonour... Or very peace-loving Poles and French (heh, like that's going to happen). Venice... well, you could say that i'm most definelty working on it :)

And punish poor Turks for sins of Byzantine? Naaaahhh... sure thing. I'm probably going to have hard time with Turkey anyway, so Constantinople is in my travel plan.

It was Eastern Roman Empire, right? Or do i just remember it wrong?

Veni, vidi, vici

1533

Rebels still control Genoa, and my armies seem to have no progress whatsoever. To help them, i order 20 cannons to be built in Milan. Also, i order another trading expedition to be sent to Mombasa.

In March, England and Sweden sign peace, England capturing Västergötland. Also, in the following month Turkish alliance grows once again: Algiers and Aden join.

In May, or trading expedition in Mombasa is successful and spice starts pouring to our CoT in Sicily.

In August, Russia captures Savolaks form Sweden

1534

I send another colonist to Mahnattan.

In February, two peace argeements are made. Russia gains Savolaks from Sweden, and Spain gets Tuxpan and 250 ducats from Aztecs.

In 26th of April, Aden declares war on Hedjaz. Aden, bakced up by entire Turkish alliance, is definelty a winner. Hedjaz gets only support from the Mameluks- Venice dishonours the alliance. I guess they don't want to fight these Turks anymore. Who am i to complain- next day, Venice is happily within our alliance. Now, i we could get Savoy as well...

In May, we finally regain Genoa.

In July, our alliance expires, and we forge a new one the same day.
Same day, i start pondering. Mameluks are a dying nation, and it will take only a few wars for Turkey to completely annex them. This would make Turkey too strong for sure. And if Turks are lucky or very determined, they can annex Mameluks with current war. I'm getting even more worried when Turkey captures Judea in 25th July. But i have a plan.

In 26th of July, Poland-Lithuania declares war on Brandenburg, claiming Western Prussia. All French alliance joins.

In august, our colonists in Manhattan are once again successful.

In 21st of August, all Sicily's troops in Italy are ladden to transports and they head to gulf of Tobruk.

Poland is successful, and conquers Western Prussia from Brandenburg in October.

By 11th of November, our fleet finally reached Gulf of Tobruk. Same day i personally deliver Sicily's declaration of war to Mameluks ambassador. Poor fellow, he knows it's the end. Well, life is hard. Mameluks call Hedjaz to the rescue, but i don't once again want to bother our allies. Let them rest. Our army starts invasion of Alexandria. We hope to gain at least Alexandria and Delta from this attack, but possible some more.
Turkey seems to have turned he's attention to Hedjaz, and Jordan falls in 17th November. Just a few days later, Poles capture Kustrin.

In december, our forces finally start siege of Alexandria. As soon as everything is ready, an assault begins.

1535

Turkey captures Arabia in 5th January

By 17th january, our troops refuse to attempt another storming of Alexandria. Shame, for there were only 734 defenders with 2 cannons left.

I order 8000 new troops to be recruited in Sicily and 2000 in Tripolitania.

25th Februry- Turkish get Samaria. 3 days later, Polish troops take Berlin and Brandenburg is forced to make peace- Poland gains Western Prussia and 250 ducats.

In April, Spain starts another war in New World, this time poor victims are Incas.

In 21st April, we start another assault. Just about a week later, Mameluks give up and Alexandria is under our control. I split our army into two: main force with 18 000 infantry and 30 cannons to Delta, while a small, 4000 man cavalry detachment is ordered to go to Quattara, then to Nile

22nd May, Nubia makes white peace with Mameluks.

Turkish main army seems to be going to siege Mekkah. So are Moldavian and Wallachian troops.

In June our armies arrive in Delta, and so do 5000 reinforcements from Sicily. Still, it takes some time to prepare and assault is ordered in 27th august. We fail utterly.

In 13th September, Turkey captures Mekkah from Hedjaz. Instead of annexation, they decide to settle with Arabia only. Good for them, for their general, Ibrahim, is now caught in Arabia and Turks have no way of using their best general. I order cavalry unit to Cyrenaica. At least they stop Mameluks from building extra troops there.

1536

Kleves joins happy family of protesnants. I couldn't care less.

In 22nd January, i order another assault. We fail again, but next assault will be victorious: only about 1000 Mameluks left.

In march, our cavalry reaches Cyrenaica and starts looting the province. I order 2000 infantry from Tripolitania to join the fun. Same time, Turkey starts siege of Catarcat.

In april 13th, we caputre Delta from Mameluks. Looks like our artillery made enough damage to their fortress that they just decided to give up. Thins are not going well for Mameluks for sure. They have 3 provinces left, of which one is a colony and under Turkish siege, and another one is looted by Sicily's troops. Only their capital Cairo is still free. I order my cannons to be sent to Cyrenaica, to make some real siege there.

In 39th April, war between Nubia and Ethiopia winally comes to an end when Ethiopia concquers Sudan form Nubia. Firghtened by the loss of their capital, Nubia gives control of Massawa to Ethiopia. We arrange royal marriange with Ethiopia the same day.

In 6th May, Mameluks regain Nile. Oh, well, i can get it too whenever i want to. Same day, Mameluks make peace with Moldavia, paying 34 ducats to them.

In July, we get another rush of colonists. I decide to send one to Manhattan.

In August, Genoa rebels again. Since i have no troops in Italy, they can freely siege the city. Oh, well, nothing is perfect.

In 10th September, Turkey finally conquers Catacrat. They seem to be heading to Egypt. Next day, my army (pure infantary) is heading to Egypt as well.

13th of September, my cannons arrive in Cyrenaica. Now a real siege begins and old fortress in Cyrenaica is already showing some cracks. Our siege experts offer 9 month before we are victorious.

In 5th of October, our army arrives in Egypt and starts siege. 9 days later first Turks arrive as well. They seem to be unpleasantly suprised to see us here, but we were here first and we are not going anywhere. So the siege begins with Sicily as leader. By 4th of November, Sicily has 27 000 infantry, 25 000 cavalry and 20 cannons to siege Cairo with. Naturally, we assault. A lot of Turks die in the walls of Cairo, but without any results, as the siege fails in 20th november. Next day, some reinforcements, about 10 000 infantry and 30 cannons, arrive as well. Besides us and Turkey, forces of Georgia and Wallachia are fighting under our command as well. Cairo is already showing serious cracks and finally falls in 18th December. Only Nile and Cyrenaica left now. Mameluks make another set of peaces, giving Georgia 37 ducats and managing to talk Walachia into white peace. I order 1000 troops to Nile. Only Mameluk army left is seiging Catacrat now.

1537

Denmark turns protestant as well.

In 11th January, Cyrenaica falls. In 1st of February, our troops arrive in Nile as well and take control of the province. Now there are no more Mameluks left.

I offer total annexation of Mameluk lands, and they accept. Turkey gains Judea and Samaria (Holy Land), also 2 colonies of Sinai and Catacrat from them, while Sicily gets the jackpot: Egypt, Alexandria, Nile, Delta, Quattara and Cyrenaica. Alexandria has a CoT and Egypt is just extremely rich province. Still, now Turkey has permanent CB on us.

We are still at war with Hedjaz, but we manage to make white peace with them in 4th February.

In March, i send 100 ducats to Venice, in May a colonists to Quattara.

In June, our armies in Africa anre finally reorganized and gathered. They board the fleet and start moving towards Genoa, to crush the rebellion there.

In 16th August, Turkey declares war on Venice. Modena dishonours, and after small concideration, so do we. Nevertheless, we form a new alliance with them the same day.

In 18th October, another global war begins in Europe. France declares war on Austria and all allies join. On French side fight Savoy, Poland-Lithuania, Scotland, Helvetia and Palatinat, while Austria gains support from Spai, Baden, Bavaria, Hungary and Bohemia. Truly a large-scale war.

In november, we crush rebellion in Genoa, and as it's Milan's time to rebel, head there and massacre rebels there in December.

1538

Brandenburg has turned protestant

In february, we have a new naval tech and can build galleons.

War is going favourably for France: first Poland conquers Silesia in 19th March, then in july, French take Alsace. Most of the Austrian alliance in busy with sieging Helvetia. In August, Moravia falls to Polish troops.

In 5th december, Hungary gets the jackpot: Helvetia. Austria, Baden, Spain, and Bavaria wathc sadly as Hungarians walk away with 250 ducats.

1539

I send another colonist to Manhattan.

In January, Helvetia makes peace with Bavaria, paying them 25. Also, i send trading expedition to Seminole.

In June, Helvetia captures Baden, reciving 13 ducats. Also, Palatinat capture Luxenbourg, French Artois and Poles Tyrol.

August: colonists in Manhattan are successful once again, also Helvetia gives 13 ducats to Spain in exhcange for peace.

In 6th of October, Poland-Lithuania makes peace with Bohemia, gaining Silesia and Moravia

1540

Spain and Incas make white peace.

In February, Poles capture Carpathia from Hungary and Presburg from Austria.

In may, Austia pays France 88 ducats for peace, but they are still at war with Poland. Also, Hungary captures Pfalz from Palatinat and recives 44 ducats. In june, Palatinat gained Hainaut from Spain, but lost Luxembourg.

In 17th june, Savoy and Poland capture Baden. Savoy settles for white peace, while Poland recives 123 ducats.

In September, Manhattan finally has a city: New Sicily. Locals decided to join our settlers and now we have over 1000 people living there. But sad news come in September as well: Spanish, using Treaty of Tordesillas as an excuse, took our trading post in Seminole. Bastards, it's another insult what we don't forget.

In November, Helvetia captures Styria from Austria.

1541

Teutonic Order turns protestant.

In February, Poles capture Ostmarch from Austria. In July, Hungary takes Carpathia back from Poles, in September Poland captures Salzburg. Also, in September, it's Bohemia's time to get Helvetia, gaining 250 ducats. In december, Carpathia falls to Polish hands once again.

1542

Pommeriania turns protestant.

I order a new colony to me established, this time to Delaware.

In February, Austria makes peacw with Poland-Lithuania, losing Presburg, Ostmarch and 108 ducats.

In 22nd March, i offer annexation to Modena. They refuse.

In June, Turkey decides that he can't handle Venice, and pays them 250 ducats for peace. Whole world, including us, is amazed. Is Turkey really so weak? Or was it just a bad time?

Next day, i offer Venice vassalization. They decline as well. Oh, well, Charles isn't much of the diplomat anyway. Next month, i send a letter to Venice, and they are happy again. Next offer is made in August, and Venice declines again.

In 1st of August, Poland takes Pest from Hungary. To make things even worse for Hungarians, Turkey declares war on them in 19th of August. All but Baden and Moldovia join the fun.

In september, our colonists in Delaware fail.

In 18th september, Poland takes Croatia from Hungary. That seems to be a bit too much for Hungarians and peace is signed in 1st of November, with Poles getting Pest and 110 ducats. Also, white peace is signed between France and Bohemia.

1543

In the beginning of the year, i send 100 ducats to both Venice and Modena. (btw, census taxes get me 180 per year already).

In 8th of February, Venice once again declines vassalization, but Modena finally sees the light and joins our glorious nation.

A Crusade, removal of a thorn and other happy things

1543 cont.

Year goes as it goes. In 9th of February, Austria takes back Styria from Helvetia. Next day, poor Helvetians pay another tribute, this time 162 ducats to Austria. I wonder from where they get all the money?

In march, Turkey gets Banat from Hungary.

In 1st of May, Austria declares war on us. I'm a bit suprised, i always thought that i had quite good relations with Austria. Oh, guess i was wrong. Wonder why Spain lets their vassals continue their own foreign policy anyway. Not like they are good diplomats or anything. Anyway, we ask Venice to help us out, and Austria gets Spain, Hungary, Bavaria and Bohemia to their rescue. My first move is to seperate some cannons and troops from my main army, also use newly aquired Modenan cannons- alltorgether 50 of them, and move them to Tyrol. Also, i order my fleet to trasport small siege army, left back in Cyrenaica, to Venice.

Wars continues, as Sweden delcares war on Teutonic Order may 29.

In 1st of June, French alliance makes white peace with Baden.

Three days later, my army arrives in Tyrol and starts siege. Shamefully, Venetians join us in August and their leader takes over. So i order my army to march to Styria instead. After all, a nice gold-producing province is always worth of something, especially if it has only minimal fortress to defend itself.

Meanwhile, my army from Cyrenaica arrives and by 14th september, force of 117 cannons and 5000 infantry starts siege of Styria.

1544

Bohema turns protestant this year.

In 4th of February, Venice conquers Tyrol. Just about a week later, 11th, we gain Styria and move on to Austria. Later that month, 23th, Spain takes control of New Sicily, our undefended colony in Manhattan. Luckily, it seems like the war is almoust over, and i'm not worried much. Still, they manage to burn our trading post in Delaware as well.

Our siege of Wien begins in 8th March. In April, a force about 10 000 man- all Austrian army- stars siege of Styria, hoping to regain the city. Venice moves on to siege Salzburg.

17th May, Turkey get Maros from Hungary.

In 10th of August, Wien finally falls to our troops. Same day, we issue our demands: Styria for Sicily, Tyrol to Venice and all the money they have. Austrians accept.

In 1st of September, Styria revolts. And garrison joins them. Luckily, that 10 000 Austrian army is still in the province and does us a little favour eliminating these rebels. Later we heard that poor rebels thought that Austrians are Sicilians and attacked them. When they realizaed their mistake, there was not a single rebel alive. Our siege army return from Austria and puts Styria under siege for the second time this year.

Also, in 1st of September, we send a letter to Venice, congratulating them for finally having a successful war. This brings our relationship to maximum once again. And, having seen the power of Sicily, they finally accepted our vassalization offer in 27th of October.

October 25th- Livonia falls to Swedish troops. Looks like Dorpat is another one of these poor cities that sees more enemy troops then their own troops. Naturally, Sweden makes peace, reciving 56 ducats from the Teutons.

In november, I order construction of fortress in Manhattan. I don't want anyone to get it so easily as the Spanish did.

Also, in 23th of November, we arrange new royal marriage with France. This time we marry daughter of our African viceroy, Alessandro di Medici, with Henri II, son of Francois I and future king of France. Young Catherine is exited- finally away from Africa to see some civilization.

1545

In January, i send another trading expedition to Delaware and settlers to Chesapeak, with orders to start colony there.

In 5th February, Turkey conquers Carpathia. Hungary is most definetly going down, for Wallachia takes Ruthenia from Hunary in April and all allied troops start siege of Magyar.

Meanwhile, our spies from Naples reported that Turkish have improved fortress there, what makes it a bit harder to regain.

In July, we invent metal bullets.

August 7: Magyar falls to Wallachian troops. Next day, a peace is made, with Wallachia gaining Ruthenia and 34 ducats. Hungary surrender to Turks as well, giving them Croatia and Banat for peace.

In September, news of our colonists arrive to Palermo. It seems like both were successful: traders establish a new post in Delaware and settlers establish a new colony in Chesapeake, naming it "New Milan".

In october, we renew our royal marriage with Russia.

Finally, year ends with news of Spanish going after Aztec empire once again.

1546

Saxony turns protestant. I order construction of new cannons: to both our field and siege army.

In 13th February, France declares war on Spain. Savoy, Brittany, Poland, Scotland, Helvetia and Palatinat join of French side, while Austria, Bavaria and Hungary come to Spanish rescue. Remembering their last encounter with Poland, Bohemia wisely dishonours their alliance.

War starts with French offencive towards Austria once again. And again they capture Alsace. But this time, no real rescue can be expected from Austria & Co- they cannot get to anywhere near French, for Venice controlls the passage.

In 15th of June, Kleves joins the fun, declaring war on Hessen. Cologne fights on Kleves's side, Thuingen helps out Hessen.

To make things even more confusing, Turkey declares war on Poland-Lithuania in 4th of August. All but Aden decide to help.

It's not wize to attack someone bigger then yourself, proves Cologne when Hessen captures Köln in 23th august and annexes them a day later.

Europe seems to be going crazy, when Russia declares war on Teutonic order in 16th september. Russia gets their usual alliance to help them, Teutons get help from England and Prussia. Same day, Turkey takes Pest from Poles.

Looks lik whole Europe is fighting one country or another, with the exeption of some small German states and us. And who are we to not follow the trend of this year: Declaration of War. So, in 22th September, we declare war on Turkey. Again, we do not ask Venice to help us. Same day, our 120 cannons backed up by 7000 infantry, move from Emilia to Naples. Siege begins in 13th October.

Meanwhile, France has decided to get out of this war with Spain, paying Spain 190 ducats.

In november, forces from Algiers start sieging Kabylia.

In November, we see another example of why not to pick the fight with stronger ones- Hessen conquers Kleves. They wait with the annexation a bit, but in 30th of December, Kleves is also part of Hessen.

1547

In the beginning of this year, i order construction of 30 cannons and recruitment of 2000 troops in Egypt. Meanwhile, Nubia sieges Nile.

Naples falls to our hands in 13th April. Next day, ambassador of Turkey offers us white peace. We laugh. Instead, we order our fleet to take siege army and head to Sea of Marmara.

Kabylia was about to fall, but for some strange reason (like a bribe to Algerian general maybe), they have abandoned it and move on before the city falls.

In 21th of June, another small nation finds it's end, as Russia annexes Prussia.

From the beginning of July, our small siege army is sieging Samara. Small would be the correct term, as we don't have enough man to siege properly, and our forces just loot the province. Currently, we have no cash as well to build new ones.

16th of July- Poland captures Ruthenia from Wallachia.

In August, Algiers starts siege of Kabylia again.

Our fleet reaches Sea of Marmara in 30th august, but is caught in sea battle with Turkish navy. Both sides take losses, but eventually we lose. Our fleet pulls back to Aegian sea. In 17th of October, fleet is back in Marmara, and another attempt to invade Thrace is made. This time, invasion goes without obstacles, but instead of siege, we are forced to take a battle with small turkish army. We lose, and pull back to Macedonia. Fleet is sent to Apulia, to pick up some reinforcements. In december, Oman burnt our trading post in Mombasa. Bastards. Also, in december, i order siege army back to Thrace.

1548

First thing i order this year is construction of another 8000 man in Egypt. Also, i order a few trading posts to be established in North-America.

In 22th january, we begin our siege of Constantinople. It seems the city is even more valuable then we thought, for Turkish hold their royal maps there and they do know much more territories then we do. But once again, we lose a battle in Thrace and are forced to pull back, to Rumelia this time. I examined the reports from the field when it occure to me: Turkey didn't especially protect Thrace, they just needed to pass some troops through it. Big and strong as Turks are, they are yet extremely vulnerable. To move troops from Europe to Asia or vice versa, they are using a bottleneck in Bosporus. If i'd take a province from the other side of Bosporus, Turkish empire would be cut to two pieces, who can only rely on naval transportation to get troops across. I mark it down to my remember-to-do parchment, but order just the taking of Rumelia this time.

In April, reinforcements from Egypt arrive in Samara and siege of Jerusalem begins. Turkey are still busy with Poland, and they get Presburg from Poland in 22th june.

Holy City is finally liberated in 6th of August. Our victorious troops, thrilled of this victory, move on to Judea.

In November, Algeirs finally managed to take Kabylia from us. To their great grief, Rumelia also falls in November, and we make peact with Turkey: We asked for Naples and Samara, and got them as well.

Oh, joy! Sicily has liberated Holy Land! News of it run all over Europe, and Sicily is praised in every household throughout the continent. But it brings us some trouble: in our council, a question rises if muslim Jerusalem isn't balsphemy. Oh, these troublemakes. It took me a lot of time and even more threats to convince them that if we would even try to force another religion on them, that would most definetly mean uprising of all our Muslim provinces. Besides, we have granted muslims religious freedom. So Jerusalem stays mostly Muslim.

1549

Siege army reaches back to Apulia, and i roder construction of another 20 cannons. Also, i send another colonist pary to Chesapeake.

In February, another 10 cannons are being constructed in Samaria, to support our siege force there.

In February, Poland goes offencive. They capture Bujak in February, and gain control of Dobrjuda in may.

In august, our colonists arrive in Chesapeake live and well and join the local population.

Charles, who has been studing fortifications quite heavily, suprises me once again. Another increace of fortress in Sicily gets us the most modern fortress in Europe and makes Palermo one of the best-defended cities in all Europe.

15th october- Wallachia conquers Moravia from Poland.

In 1st of November, rebellion breaks loose in Styria once again, and once again rebels talk our garrison to join them. Maybe i should put Muslims from Nile to garrison duty there, at least they wouldn't understand what these damn Styrians want. Anyway, both my field army and siege army start moving towards Styria- field army to take down rebels and siege army to take the fortress.

And in 21st of December, Austria declares war on us again. These people never learn! All Austrian alliance joins as well- Spain, Bavaria and Hungary. Venice joins too. Stupid move for Austrians, for they have only about 3000 troops left. Naturally, they start rercuiting new ones immideatly, but going to war wiht 3000.

1550

Scotland turns to protestant. Also, a man named Jean Calvin goes preacing aroung in Europe. I don't like what he sais, and ban this so-called reformation within Sicily, but a lot of people start thinking Calvin has a point. Shame though. Come to think of it, orthodox isn't so bad when compared with these new religions in Europe, so i order more tolerance towards orthodox. Besides, Venice has some orthodox ones as well.

In January, Spanish took control of our trading post in Barahana. Also, i send another colonist to Chesapeake, and upgrade fortress in Jerusalem.

In march, war between Aztecs and Spanish comes to an end, with Spain reciving 250 ducats, Tehuantepec and Atlixo.

In may, our scientist discover astrolabe, whitch helps us to navigate (naval 6).

In june, our nearky 50k combined siege and field army lost to mere 5000 austrians and pulls back to Istra. Field army heads to Venice, while siege army moves towards Carniola. In 2nd july, we begin our siege of that province, while Austrians are trying to take Styria back.

In august, we renew royal marriage with Georgia and also hear sad news: our colonists fail.

Jean Calvin had only one good side: he managed to get the whole Holland revolting. Spanish armies in this area have been annihilated and first province- Friesen- falls to rebel hands this september.

About 20 000 austrians and bavarians siege Styria now. To their great disappointment, winter is especially rough in this year and they take a lot of losses thanks to cold and lowes supplies. Onlu half of them survive until spring. I order 5000 infantry to help siege of Carniola. To my suprise, Spanish have blocked the way, sieging Istria. Still, our troops manage to slip through, reaching to Carniola in the next year.

1551

In 9th of January, we take Carniola from Austria and move on to Oldenburg.

In 17th January, Poland takes Moravia back from Walacchia, and takes Walacchia in 23th January. Same day, peace is signed with Poland gaining total control over Walacchian territories.

Jan 30- our siege army reaches Oldenburg.

In may, another two Holland's provinces fall to rebel hands: Zeeland and Hague. Sieges of Holland and Flanders continue, but looks like they will fall soon as well. Flanders falls in july.

In 1st of June, we gain control of Oldenburg, and move on to Austria. We start siege of Wien in 28th june. Meanwhile, our fortress in Styria is about to fall. I decide to let if go: after all they will get rid of rebels for us. Austrians take back Styria in 14th october, and move to relief their capial. To their great disappointment, Wien falls just 2 weeks later, in 29th of October. I make peace the same day, with Sicily gaining Oldenburg, Carnolia and Austrian trasury.

1552

In february, rebels get Holland as well, and all of Spanish Lowlands are now under rebel control. Next month, Neatherlands declares independence from Spain, taking 5 rich provinces with them and declaring war on Spain as well. Only Austria remains loyal to Spain, rest of the alliance dishonoures. Dutch 36 000 troops, while Spain doesn't have even half that much in this area.

In September, Poles regain Ostmarch, while Turkey gets Wallachia from Poland. Poles continue their advance and regain Presburg in october and Pest in december

1553

Helvetia and England both turn to reformed. I still couln't care less.

Looks like Poles were intresting only in regaining status quo, for the sign peace with Turkey in 26th of January, both sides gaining nothing.

I order upgrading of fortress in Nile- we nearly lost it to Nubians last time- and also arrange another band of colonists to be sent to Chesapeak.

In may, Neatherlands take Artois from Spanish. Still no Spanish troops in that area.

In may, Turkey managed to talk Aden to be his vassal.

In august, our colonists are successful once again.

In october, Neatherlands take Luxembourg from Spanish

In 22nd december, France declares war on Portugal. All of the French alliance joins, and for Portugal Morocco and Mysore dishonour. Still, Hansa, Pommer, Pope and Ragusa come to the rescue.

1554

In February, Brittany took Morbihan from Portugal.

In may, Turkey declares war on Hungary once again. This time Hungary is left alone: only Moldavia as an ally. But another conflict ends in may: Spain gives Holland Artois and 250 ducats.

In July, we start equipping our armies with arquebus.

In September, Russia declares war on Teutonic Order, almoust all of their alliance (Pskov, Denmark, Crimea and Knights) join the party, only Swedes dishonoures. Teutons have no allies.

In november, we ask Venice to become part of our nation. They argee, and now we have 7 provinces more, including 3 islands in Mediterrain: Corfu, Cyrpos and Crete. Also Venice's CoT, though in decline, is still rich, and both Venice and Mantua are valuable gains.

In 17th November, Russia takes Dorpat and forces Livonia to pay 93 ducats.

In december, Hungary takes Banat from Turkey, but they lose their ally in the same month, when Turkey conquers and annexes Moldovia.

1555
January 1st. Charles II died today. He was riding to Venice, to oversee his new lands, but fell from the horse and broke his neck. He was transported to Palermo and buried next to his fahter, Ferdinand II.

Charles wasn't the best king, but during his reign Sicily grew even stronger. We now control almoust all Italy, and have taken back Naples. Also, our lands in North-Africa have grown bigger as we added Mameluks to our empire. Not to mention liberation of the holy land. This is probably the reason world will never forget Chareles. Currently, our yearly income is over 300, we control 4 centres of trade, Sicily has grown and become a major power during his reign. And we must not forget first colonial attempts, and even a beautiful city New Sicily in New World. But speaking of Charles, one must not forget his love towards fortifications. Begun as a curiosity when he was still young, he became one of the leading experts in Europe in defencive structures. Shamefully he never wanted to test his skills in siege, but thanks to his plans Palermo is the best-defended city in Europe.

Charels will be missed. I can only hope that his son and follower, Philip I, will be as good of a monarch as his father was. Time will tell.

Thanks!

Still have the highest in Europe... come on, annexation of Mameluks just doesn't go unnoticed ;)

About the pope... next time we go to war, he is gone. It's not my fault he ruins my political map :) But he must DoW me... don't want to take -3 stability just to get one province.

Peace and prosperity... with some rebels to flavour things up

1555

After more then 50 years of almoust constant wars and expansion, I decide to live peacefully for a while. With the annexation of Venice, we once again have no allies and i'm determined to get back to the French alliance. All income this year is spent on making French and Poles, two powerful nations in Europe, think well of us. In order to improve things even more, i finally arrange royal marriage with Poland- they were a bit suspicion in the beginning, stil remembring our first try, but finally agreed to join hands of Wladyslaw Wizniowieky and Anna Paladini, both young and healthy. I personally checked that no errors would be made this time, and by 24th of February, everything was ready for the grand wedding ceremony in cathedral of Palermo. After that, happy couple started moving towards Poland- using a ship. Neither Austrians or any nations of Germany weren't so pleased of having them pass through their territory.

Also, i started improving our economy, and naturally fight the rebellions. Since a large part of our empire had it's doubts of us being best rulers for them, rebellions broke loose constantly, too numerous for them all to be mentioned. Most of them don't deserve mentioning as well- lousy bands of peasants, with no fighting skill and bad weapons- no oppostion for our glorious armies.

I spend 300 ducats of census taxes this way in the following years: 100 to diplomacy, 100 to any tasks required and 100 to bank.

Nothing much happens in the following years as well, as Europe lives in relative peace. In April, Turkey gets Maros from Hungary, and retake Banat later this year, in december. April also sees forming of another strong alliance: Netherlands, a growing power in Europe, join their fate with English, Swedes and Hessen. Another news of interest from this year: in july, Spain declares war on Aztecs.

1556

War between Portugal and France continues, and in february, Poland pays to our great suprise Pommerania 146 ducats to get peace. Another news from Turkish-Hunagrian war arrive this month as well: Hungary regains Maros from Turkey

In April, Sicily has once again allies we can count with: in 16th of April, we join military alliance wiht France, Poland-Lithuania, Savoy, Brittany, Scotland, Helvetia and Palatinat. To be honest, i'm not positive that latest three will come to our rescue if needed, but we have good relations with French and Poles, and Savoy is also willing to come to the rescue, so i'm not worried. Still, i'm afraid of several dishonourings in the coming years.

In may, Turks regain Maros. Fall of Hungary continues, when Georgia gets Transilvania from them in october.

Another news arrives in October: king of Austria dies and another Austrian, Ferdinand I is elected to the next holy roman emperor. Austria, still a vassal of Spain and down to 3 provinces now, is probably not a strongest nation to rule the empire. Maybe that's what German electors are counting for: Austria is probably having troubles of it's own, and can't possibly intervene in their lives as an Emperor. The weaker the Emperor, the more freedom they have. Come to think of it, very wise decicion indeed.

Also, in the end of december, i arrange yet another royal marriage with Savoy.

1557

End of Hungary is coming closer when Magyar falls in May, but this time they fall to Georgian hands. Georgians are more then willing to use the oppurtunity and come out from the war as proud owners of Transylvania and 250 ducats richer as well. Hungary also managed to sign peace with Hedjaz, giving them 150 ducats. Turkey, their main enemy, is still at war with them and it looks like they are determined to annex. To my great surprise, i examined the map and noticed that Georgia with their Transylvania cuts Turks off of all reinforcements they might recive, and Turks ave only 15 000 man to take last two of Hungary's provinces: Carpathes and Magyar. Turks still seem to be determined and start siege of Carpathes.

In december, things start heating up again. In 1st of December, Russia declares yet another war on Sibir. But greater news come in 12th of December, when Hedjaz declares war on Spain. Turkey, Nubia and Algiers join them, while Georgia, Aden and Oman dishounour the alliance. Strange, Hedjaz doesn't have any forces in Mediterrain to effectively fight the Spanish. Oh, well. At least both Spanish and Turks are busy and i can breathe more easily.

1558

In February, Turks get Carpathia from Hunary and start moving towards Magyar. They have about 10 000 troops left, so Hungary has at least a fighting chance.

In March, conflict between Sibir and Russia is solved when Sibir pays Russia 66 ducats.

In May, our troops fight even better, as a new infantry unit: arquebusiers, is introduced to our armies.

In June, Hungary finally decides to give up and Turkish empire gains Carpathia and Maros, not to mention 120 ducats. Still, Hungarians continue their independence, though as a one-province nation.

1559

In April, a white peace is signed between Poland-Lithuania, Portugal and Ragusa.

Also, rebels are really bothersome this month, they take both Florence and Istria. Siege army goes to deal with the problem.

In august, after several settlers sent there, Chesapeake finally becomes a city and all native forces in this area are also granted citizenship of Sicily. We have yet another city in New World, and I plan to have a few others as well.

1560

Sctoland converts to reformed.

In February, i forge yet another royal marriage, this time with Ethiopia. I'm not planning to vassalize them... now. But a nice nation with good provinces is just the thing i need in the future.

In March, Pommerania gets another peace agreement, this time with France. And yet again they manage to come out of this war victoriously, gaining 8 ducats in process.

In June, Portugal, after several unsuccessful invasions to Savoy, agrees to pay Savoians 150 ducats for peace.

1561

Almoust only news for this year is sending a colonist party to Delaware. They are successful in September, and a new colony, "New Apulia", is established

Also, one could almoust forgot: Henri II died suddenly and before Charels IX is old enough to rule the nation, her mother, Catharina di Medici, leads the country. Di Medicis back in Africa cheer- it's not every day one of their relatives gain throne of France. Any throne, to be more precise. I'm not sure. Catharina never seemed to be very bright, but extremely stubborn and educated with best traditions of Sicily: including total intolerance against any kind of protestantism. I'm afraid she isn't the best to rule the country- there is a lot of hugenot provinces in the South France.

1562

War between Spain and Hedjaz reaches Spanish mainland when Turkey captures Valencia in 19th of May. Turkish forces move towards Aragon.

In 9th of June, Hansa declares war on Hannover. Quite stupid move from them, for they are alone, without any allies and have only 8000 troops, while Hannover is in alliance with Brandenburg and Saxony, who both join the war as well. As a result, by end of July, a 35 000 force is sieging Mecklenburg.

By august, policies of Catharina have turned France into chaos. Revolts pop up everywhere, and even good catholic provinces have had enough of her. Unrest is spreading thorugh France, and market research companies claim that more then 15%, in some provinces even 20% of French are willing to take the arms and openly fight against Catharina. Not that rest of the french agree with Catharina: about 75% would like her to be burned and 25% just killed. French blaim us as well and our relations with France suffers. Angry mob burns down our embassy in Paris, with our ambassador.

In October, Meckenburg falls the first time: the lucky winner being Saxony, who happily walk away with 221 ducats they find in the Hansa treasury. In November, Spain took Valencia back from the Turks.

1563

In March, Hannover took Bremen from Hansa. Small Hannoverian force, supported by Brandenburg, is sieging Meckenburg and Lubeck falls in May. Hannover gets a good deal: Hansa gives up Bremen and adds their treasury, 59 ducats, to the pot.

French, who have battling rebels for a whole year, finally seem to get situation under control. About 0% of the population are willing to take arms against their goverment, but options about Catharina remain about the same: this time 80% of French want her burned, 5% stoned to death and 15% just beheaded. Catherine is forced to issue acts of religious tolerance to the people, granting each right to choose their own religion. And though not yet officially, Charles IX takes the throne and pushes his mother aside. She is send back to Medicis in Africa.

In the first of november, we can finally promote governors. Since our inflation is quite high already, i promote alltogether 8 governors in our richest provinces, trying to control the inflation. By december, our inflation is down to zero once again.

1564

In january, I finally have enough money to build a manufactory in Sicily. I choose to build a refinery, to make maximum use of Sicily's fine wine, and since our only refinery in Modena was burned by the rebels just a short time ago, it seems like a wise decision.

In May, Turks take Malta from Spain, In jule we discover Matchlocks, in august Brittany makes white peace with Portugal, giving away Morbihan.

Also, in August our main field army is down to 8000 infantry due to constant battles with rebels. Instead of reinforcing them, i join them with siege army and decide to recruit another army next year.

In November, as soon as Portugal regains Morbihan, French come marhcing in and take the city. In december, peace is finally made, ending hostilities between two nations and giving Morbihan o French. Looks like they finally have a chance to add Brittany to their realm

1565

By the beginning of this year, French have completely solved their rebel problems- all the rebellions have been crushed, all provinces taken back under French command. In February, Savoy accepts, to my great grief, vassalization of France. Nothing one can do about it, but it makes you sad anyway. I was hoping to get them myself, but alas! fate has decided otherwise.

French are active in diplomacy this year- in April they annex Brittany and add this country to their realm as well. Yet another 2 provinces gained for France. Since they are our allies, i'm only glad- i need strong allies to fight my coming wars with Turkey and Spain (and these wars will come, wheather i want them or not, of this i'm sure).

Year ends with Russia once again trying their luck with Sibir. I hope them the best of luck.

I'm not sure about French, but i think someone put some nasty events with our dear Catherine... revolt risk was about 15-20% thanks to random events. My best guess would be French Time of Troubles. After all, war of the 3 Henries and such... (oh, wait, these are still to come, maybe the French aren't so good allies after all)

Are we trying for a New Mare Nostrum

It would seem like you would like in this moment to say that the Med was your own private lake! It sounds cool doesn't it?

But first you must start recruiting some good generals and fleet commanders. Besides, you are conducting the strings of the realm since 1492, isn't it time for you to step aside, new blood in the masteries of war and politics?!?!

Alas, in truth great AAR and nice alternative history.
