The RD is fairly clear they want METI. It seems they are willing to allow you to offer them the other department.

Terms of the coalition in detail can be found on the coalition for progress thread and the RD thread.

Basically in Parliament, legislation will be nominated by one party and seconded by the other to maintain unanimity. Policies discussed are outlined on one or the other thread.

What needs to be hashed out more thoroughly is budgetary/trade issues. And a budget is going to be a fairly early concern, for obvious reasons...

If I may be so bold as to make a minor correction, the Department we'd be primarily interested in is MHSA. :)

BTW, fellow FR members, I really will not have the time to be editor-in-chief. party chair, and MP all at once post-election. I never intended to be editor-in-chief in any case. From what I gathered, Mr Petrarca is no longer interested in Editor-in-Chief duties. (If this is in error, Mr Petrarca, please stop me, as I received this 2nd hand.) If there is a party member willing to take over those duties, that position is open.
Dear Sir,

Vis-a-vis my previous letter, I recall that I had indeed informed you of my resignation of that post privately. Pressing business concerns prevented my involvement with the most minor political duties, let alone exercising the responsibilities of my position. It is my sincerest hope that with the recent uptick of shipbuilding, I shall now have the necessary time to focus my energies upon aiding the party. I fear that I shall not be able to return to the newspaper for a sheer lack of time, that most valuable of resources, lest I let my family's economic legacy fall into shambles.

Also we need to come to an agreement as to whether or not we will formalize our offer to the RD.

Major editing: The nomination will end Monday 23h59, so the voting will start Tuesday 00h00 and will end Thursday 23h59

I think either you are confused, or else we are. It was my understanding that nominations are due by Monday. That's not the same as voting for the Speaker. Under normal parliamentary procedure, nominations have to be received and subsequently closed before proper voting can begin, and that only on those candidates nominated.

ok the RD can pick the MHSA and the METI.
i am ok with them having VP from their 2 ministers but after they pick the 2 men/women to fill the roles i will select of the 2 for VP if thats alright with them.
that leaves us needing to fill the MHA and the MEDI.
(for the author of the letter in the public interest sorry that i have concerns outside of the computer ;) )
as we have no volunteers from here i would be most happy if the parliment would go ahead and vote Mel back in as CRO, that is if he wants the job again. if so please respond so someone from parliment or I can propose the vote
(i am allowed that i belive as it says i can propose legislation and i hope the CRO voting counts in that else if not no worries someone else can start the vote)
(also does a chief of administration need to be appointed at this time or is it no worry with the few people we have?)

[OOC:

CRO-nominations and elections are a purely parliamentary affair, so no role for the President. Unless Parliament is tied 6-6 in voting for a CRO, that is. :)

As to the Directors-General: so far, gameplay focuses on the national level, so DGs aren't essential. In other words, there is no real need to fill all ten positions (or even any of them) at this point. :)]

Esteemed partners in cri... coalition :)D): forgive me for barging into your headquarters without invitation. The RD would like to suggest that we form a common Steering Committee for the duration of this term. The Committee would be composed of two or three (personally, I'd prefer two) leading members from each of our two parties, and would be responsible for coordinating the legislative work of the coalition (negotiating agreements, hammering out parliamentary procedure etc.). How do you feel about this?

I meant to comment on this in your HQ, but pressing business (OOC, RL) intervened.

I think this is a very good idea. I think 2 MPs of each party should be sufficient. But I think it appropriate if I am not one of those individuals, as it may be seen a conflict of interest with my position as Speaker. That's just my first thought on the matter, I may be able to be talked out of it if it can be shown not to be a conflict of interests.

How would you feel about including one MP and one government member from each party? I think this might increase integration and cooperation between Parliament and the Cabinet and minimize potential communication problems and policy divergence.

As to the potential conflict of interest: personally, I don't expect there really would be a problem. If your position as party leader does not result in conflict of interest, I don't see why participation in the Steering Committee should. :)

If we are to include government members and MPs in this Steering Committee, why not increase its seats to three per party (2 MPs + 1 MG)? Admittedly, that will make for a considerably larger committee than perhaps was initially envisioned, but it must be taken under consideration that this is, at least in the theory presented, a committee directed towards the steering of legislation ... namely, in Parliament. We must consider the motivations of our fellow MPs in this affair, motivations which led them, for whatever reason or party ideology, to have run in election and now been duly elected to serve as a representative of the voting public of Eutopia. Two MPs per party will be, to wit, representative enough of Parliament as a whole, or at least where our parties are concerned, to adequately represent and bring to the table all viewpoints, interests, and concerns on the issues discussed and the strategies formulated.

Of course, maintain the member of government for each party, and that brings the total composition of the committee up to six. Numerologically, that is a clear half-wise representation of the total of MPs, and allows enough of them to have their say and input without making it an unwieldy free-for-all.

On a side note, whatever the composition of the Steering Committee, I am a firm believer that Mr. Galloglaigh should be one of the representatives of the Free Republicans.

And coincidentally, if my proposition proves acceptable, or if the previous suggestion of two MPs and one government official is adopted, I would be more than happy to serve as one of the FR's Parliamentary representatives. :)

I understand the honorable Speaker's objections, but I too feel that he deserves a position on any such steering committee.
