As for worst A.I countries, that depends, though it's not Poland! England might need tweaking though, they're improving with every patch, Calais for one seems to be staying English sometimes close to the 17th century. There's the Scottish issue though....

Spain seems to be one of the nations which the AI actually plays well, whereas England is not. I do not understand the Aztecs remark though. What are they supposed to do but die?

Portugal is a joke in all the games I have seen, but the worst played nation overall has to be the Ottomans. Not in a single game have I or my friends seen an Ottoman Empire that even remotely resembles the historic one. On more than occasion I have seen them being chopped up and on the road to a partition, Polish style, in the 1550's.

So, my vote goes to the loser Sultan.

I might as well reveal the reason for this: the AI does not know what attrition is. Those big intimidating armies are not so frightening after a couple of months in snowy mountainous regions.

I tend to disagree on the Ottomans. Now and then I have games where they perform exceedingly well. Not everytime, but every other time.
The same holds for France, Poland, Sweden and Russia btw.

No, no, that is not what I meant. Sorry, that could have been phrased better - I blame it on too much coffee.

No, they were chopped up by Venetians, Poles, Hungarians, Mameluks and Persians so that, in the end, there would be none of it left, just like Poland in those sad years of the partitions.

And to Hartmann: It is good to know that they succeed sometimes, but I have still to see it with my own eyes. I probably play too few games, but still, IMO they should expand fast in 99% of the games.

I agree with what was sayed before about England: often France, Scotland and a few others (Spain a lot of times, too) gang up and invade the British Isles, leading to a quick fall of Bitannia, Ruler of the Waves.

And I must say I feel that the Ottomans are too weak in EU. They were a superpower, along with the united Spain/Habsburg empire, and they were considered invincible for a long period, up to the battle of Lepanto in 1571.

Extremely small evidence of this in the game...

Well, at least I see the Ottomans successfully campaigning in the middle east in 99% of my games. Balkans is another point. They often loose ground there, but - as I said - sometimes they gobble up Hungary/Austria/Venice.

I think that most of the major countries are now played badly by the AI, which hasn't adapted to the other changes made to the game. England in particular remains terrible, though. Spain often does extremely well on the Continent now (since it's easily able to vassalize and annex Venice and other countries), but takes forever to conquer the Aztecs and Incas.
