I had an idea I got from "The fleur-de-lys will flouring again" at one point. There was something about a "Free Britian" at some point in Indonesia. I had an idea for a hypothetical HoI3:

If a nation has colonies (perhaps if there's a definition of "continents" in the code) on some other continent, then just like how part of France becomes Free France, if you annex one of these colonial powers (maybe even if a nation has overseas puppets), theres a chance of the annexed overseas powers becoming the nation with a "Free" at the begining. For example, if you annex the United States, the Phillipines and/or Liberia will become "Free America." If you annex mainland England, their African colonies will become "Free England."

Either that, or when you annex a colonial nation, most of the colonies declare independance. For example, when you annex Britian, India, Egypt, and some other nations declare independence. I think either one of those options will be more realistic.

Here's the comprimise of the two ideas: if a nation has colonies, then when you annex them, whatever colonies with cores (IE British India) become "Free England" or something. Maybe in HoI3 there should be two types of cores: Homeland Cores and Terretorial Cores. IE the British Isles would be homeland cores for the United Kingdom. India would be a Terretorial Core for the United Kingdom.

I dunno, it seems like a final "safe point" in case of annexation, also a more realistic reason for trying to conquer a nation's colonies.
